A significant decrease in protein kinase C and total sperm count along with increased apoptosis were observed in male Wistar rats exposed to mobile phone frequencies (2 h/day x 35 days at 0.9 W/kg specific absorption rate). The results suggest that a reduction in protein kinase activity may be related to overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) under microwave field exposure. Decrease in sperm count and an increase in apoptosis may be causative factor due to mobile radiation exposure leading to infertility.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the aquatic training on selected physical fitness variables among volleyball players. To achieve this, 40 physically active and interested undergraduate engineering volleyball players were selected as subjects and their age ranged between 18 and 20 years. The subjects were categorized into two groups namely control group, aquatic training group with each 20 subjects. The experimental group underwent the experimental treatment for 12 weeks, 3 days per week and a session on each day with 45 min duration. Speed, endurance and explosive power were taken as variables for this investigation. Fifty meters run, cooper 12 min run and standing vertical jump were used as test. The data collected prior and after the experimental treatment was analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The result revealed that aquatic training group shows significant improvement in all the selected physical fitness variables.

Zanthoxylum rhetsa seeds are rich in essential oil; a tincture of the seeds is used for the treatment of cholera. The oil is also used as an antiseptic or disinfectant, and for the treatment of asthma, tooth ache and rheumatism. This prompted us to investigate the antimicrobial activity of the seed essential oil. Zanthoxylum rhetsa seed essential oils steam distilled from aqueous, alkaline and acidic media were examined for antibacterial properties against four bacteria, namely Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris and Klebsiella pneumoniae by 'cut well method'. The acid distilled oil showed significant activity against all the tested microorganisms, whereas the activity of aqueous and alkaline extracts was found to be moderate. Zanthoxylum rhetsa seed oil showed significant activity against these organisms, due to the synergic effect of the components present in the oil. "The chief component of the acid medium extract, α, γ-terpinenes and terpinolene are reported to have antimicrobial activity. The poor antimicrobial activity of alkali and aqueous extract revealed that sabinene, the chief constituent of the extracts, was a poor antimicrobial agent. The acid distilled oil can be used as a potential antiseptic and it can be incorporated in the drug formulations."

Lamellidens corrianus is a pearl producing freshwater bivalve indigenous to Indian subcontinent. In present study the wild population samples of I. corrianus were collected from Powai, Khopoli and Shahapur water bodies of Konkan region (Maharashtra, India) and studied for genetic variationusing Isozyme markers. The present study implied that there was oyerall hetetozygosity deficiecy against the hardy weinberg eauilbrium in the wild populations of L. corrianus The Fst estimates confirmed the existence of marginal genetic differentation among populations. Shahapur population was found to be most variable and Powai population the least. The dendrogram of Isozyme marker gave three different clusters viz Powai, Shahapur and Khopoli Indicating these populations as sub species of L. corrianus.

During the study period of 16 months, at river Gadhi and Deharang Reservoir, the diatom diversity was studied qualitatively and quantitatively. Among the diatoms, Rhizolenia spp. was the most abundant genera, which was recorded at stagnant and sewage fed site in summer season;indicating it as the indicator of eutrophication. The other genera namely, Cyclotella spp., Thallasiosira spp. Melosinispp, Navicula spp., Nitzschia spp. and Synedra spp. indicated the downstream sites as heavily polluted, especially during summer seasoa. The occurrence of Gomphonema spp., Stephanodiscus spp., Gyrosigma spp., and Cymbella spp, atupstrearn sites was the indication of clear water. Aecording to Nygaard's index, all sites are eutrophicated except S2.

The fruit juice of Dovyalis caffra showed an inhibitory activity against Candida albicans, Malassezia furfur and Microsporum canis. It has a high inhibitory effect on Candida albicans with inhibition zones ranging between 1.4 and 3 cm. Yeast cells surviving ratio was decreased with increasing the juice concentrations from 0 to 90 mg/ml. The flow of potassium from C. albicans, M. furfur and M. canis cells under different D. caffra fruit juice concentrations was measured and showed a pronounced adverse effect on cell permeability of the yeasts. Tinea patients treated with crude fruit juice of Dovyalis cafJra caused by Trichophyton mentagrophytes.

The plant fluorescence in leaves get damaged due to several reasons like shortage or excess of water, high temperature, severe cold, high intensity electromagnetic radiation shortge of nutrients, excess of presence of foreign material in the body of the plants etc. These factors may be called as damage parameters. In many cases the damage is visible to human eyes. However, in many cases the damage is not visible to the eyes but the plants cells get damaged because of one or many above-mentioned parameters. The invisible damage to the plant cells may be reversible or sometimes irreversible depending upon the magnitude of the damage parameters and duration for which the parametric condition are prevailing. We artifieially create the environmental conditions and recorded the laser-induced fluorescence of the plants. We studied the combined effect of nutrient and water stress on the plant leaves. The experimental results show that the shortage of water and nutrients brings down the chlorophyll level to very large extents. The laser induced fluorescence spectra carry lot of information about the damage to the plant leaves. The recording taken in the present work is in vitro study of the laser-induced fluorescence of the plants, We are designing an experimental setup, which helps in the study of in-vivo fluoresence spectra of plants leaves in different regions of India.

The Dhimal at Naxalbari of Darjeeling district in West Bengal, belong to Indo-Mongoloid ethnic stock. Dhimal is a comparatively less known small community in North Bengal. Mean (± se) age (men = 35.93 ± 1.14 and women = 32.59 ± 1.06) of both sexes represent standard adult population (male = 151 and female = 171). Results show that the haemoglobin levels in both the sexes (male: 9.69 gm/dl and female: 8.82 gm/dl) among the adult Dhimals are very low. This is true in all age groups. Studies on Hunter-Gatherers have not always been done with the same attitude over both time and space. The onset of menstruation introduces a number of health problems which most of the women encounter. Understanding of the linkage between the morbid conditions due to menstruation and other reproductive morbidities is very essential. Moreover, the hygienic practices related to menstruation also affect the reproductive morbidities. The present study intends to find out the similarities and differences in menstrual health and hygienic practices during menstruation between the two groups with contrasting socioeconomic conditions. Data have been collected from a total number of 400 adolescent girls (200 from each of the two contrasting socioeconomic groups) from the State of West Bengal, India, with the help of a questionnaire/schedule. Results show that significant differences exist in menstrual health conditions, in other gynecological problems and hygienic practices related to menstruation between the girls of the contrasting socioeconomic groups.

The concentration of dissolved inorganic calcium (Ca2+) plays an important role in the aquatic productivity both at inorganic and organic level. It acts as a nutrient and controls the structural and functional integrity of plankton in freshwater. Seasonal samples were collected on calcium concentration of water and zooplankton from eight oxbow lakes of southern and northern parts of West Bengal during the year 1996 and 1997. The findings of the study have indicated that 72% (r2 = 0.7230) of zooplankton production in the investigated lakes are directly dependent on the calcium concentration of water. From the present investigation, it can be easily stated that to maintain zooplankton concentration at a level of 760±201.16 unitl-1 in the oxbow lakes of West Bengal, the dissolved inorganic calcium should be 23.6±7.09 mgl-1 equivalent of CaCO3. The obtained regression equation for zooplankton and dissolved inorganic calcium content relationship of this study can be used as a management tool, for zooplankton population maintenance in the oxbow lakes of West Bengal towards development of a zooplankton feeder fishery.

The breeding biology of the endemic Grey-headed Bulbul Pycnonotus priocephalus was studied from 2003 to 2005 in Silent Valley National Park, Western Ghats, India. Nests were located during three field seasons from the arrival (December) to the dispersal of the birds (June) and collected data on various breeding parameters, availability of fruits and weather conditions. All nests were found in mid-elevation evergreen forests ranging from 900 to 1,400 m elevation. Breeding occurred in the drier months (January-May), which coincides with high fruit availability. Nest building lasted 3-8 days. Majority of the nests (>72%; n = 39) were built on two plant species (Ochlandra travancorica and saplings of Syzygium sp.) and the mean nest height was 1.52 ± 0.80 m (n = 52). Nests were randomly oriented around the nesting plants with a mean vector of orientation equaling 160.450. The clutch size averaged 1.53 ± 0.50 eggs (range = 1-2; n = 47). Incubation and nestling periods were 13 ± 0.87 (n = 9) and 12 ± 0.50 (n = 9) days, respectively. Overall nest success was 10.79%. Nest success rates varied among incubation and nestling periods. Grey-headed Bulbul exhibit life-history traits associated with low productivity such as short breeding season, low clutch size, fewer broods per year and high predation rates indicating that deterioration of breeding habitats might seriously hamper the long-term survival of the species.

This study presents prebiotic potential of 9 grape varieties [4 marketed juice' grapes (Gl, G2, G3, and G9) and 5 hybrids (G4, G5, G8, G10 and G12)] using 4 individual probiotics and a consortium. Marketed fructooligosaccharide (FOS) was used as a standard prebiotic. G10 showed higher growth response to Lactobacillus acidophilus and L. delbrueckii and reduced Escherichia coli counts with zone of inhibition against E. coli. Inhibititory activity of a-amylase as IC50 was lowest for G1 and G10. All grape varieties and hybrids showed prebiotic activity (21.2-72.5% of FOS) with Gl and G10 being promising types.

Blend B decreased all the lipid fractions namely total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, VLDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Further studies are needed to explore the mechanisms involved in establishing the results obtained in the present study.

Attempt has been made to evaluate the production of protease by Streptomy-ces species employing rapid plate assay method. Amongst seven isolates employed in the study, novel species i.e. Streptomyces gulbargensis after 120 hours showed highest zone of hydrolysis on skim milk agar plates. This strain was further evaluated for the production of enzyme under shake flask culture and solid state fermentation using CYKN broth and agro-industrial wastes respectively. The results revealed that, Streptomyces gulbargensis yielded 127 IU and 135 IU of enzyme activity in shake flask culture and solid state condition. Therefore, the present study indicated that the solid state fermentation is more suitable for the production of protease by Streptomyces gulbargensis employing wheat bran as substrate. The partially purified enzyme preparation exhibited activity over a broad range of pH 4-12 and 35-80°C, respectively. Optimum activity was observed at pH 9.0 and 45°C.

With an aim to study natural variation in PSB w.r.t their efficiency a comparative study to evaluate the bio-efficacy of local strain vs commercial strain of PSB was carried out on chili (Cqpsicum annum L.) at Allahabad Agricultural Institute - Deemed University, Allahabad. Local strain was isolated from rhizo-sphere of healthy chili plants and the commercial strain was obtained from National Centre for Organic Farming (NCOF), Ghaziabad. Bio-formulation ofboth the strains was developed in lignite powder and bio-primed on chili seeds. Bio- efficacy of these formulations was assessed on seed germination, plant height and plant biomass in chili. Both the formulations enhanced the seed germination, plant height and plant biomass compared to control and local strain was more effective in this reference.

Understanding the significant contribution of highly productive mangrove ecosystem and its microbial biodiversity, it has been attempted to study the microbial biodiversity of Bhitarkanika mangrove ecosystem and its bioactive potential. Bhitarkanika is located in the estuarine region of Bramhani-Baitarani in Northeastern corner of Kendrapada district of Orissa. Representative samples of water, surface soil and sediments two inch below the soil surface were collected aseptically from various sites during the period from the mid of April to September 2006. The water sample was found to be saline-alkaline in nature with pH 7.5 and salinity 7.5 mm hos/cm. It contained nitrate to the extent of 35 ppm and was free from iron and chlorine. The surface soil was alkaline in nature with pH 6.19 and salinity 5.2 mm hos/cm, whereas the soil below two inches from surface was slightly acidic in nature. The total bacterial load of sediments was higher (9.2X 104 CFUg) than thesurface soil (8.8X 104 CPU g) and water samples (7.5X 104 CFU ml). Similarly the fungal load of sediments was higher than the surface soil with total load varying from 15 to 17 CFU/g. The Coliform counts were 210 per 100 ml of water. Out of the 20 different bacterial isolates identified 14 strains (70%)were gram -ve rods, 4 strains (20%) were Gram +ve rods and 2 strains (10%) were Gram +ve cocci. About 20% of the Gram -ve bacteria were from Enterobacteriaceae family. Seven species of fungi were isolated from the soil and water samples out of which six species were identified and one species could not be identified. Microbial isolates of Bhitarkanika mangrove forest were observed to be halophilic, thermophlic and alkalopbilic in nature. All the bacterial isolates have high enzyme activity compared to fungal isolates. It is concluded from the present investigation that a wide microbial diversity exists in the Bhitarkanika mangrove forest. The microbes have high enzymatic activities and could withstand hostile environmental conditions.

The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between anthropometric measurements to the playing ability in basketball (jonshon basketball test). 50 male and 50 female basketball national level players of Rajasthan state were selected as subject for the purpose of this study. Present study exhibited the insignificant relationship with field goal speed test (basketball playing ability) and with throw for accuracy at the chosen level but the value of product moment correlation is quite higher which may be understood that the size of body may contribute to basketball playing ability when combined with other variables. Finding of study show the insignificant relationship between body weight and basketball playing ability which may be attribute to the fact that basketball players do not require bulky body which may hidden the performance of the players. The findings reveal that insignificant relationship exist between let length and Field ball speed test and dribble test (basketball playing ability) no significant relationship was found with throw ball accuracy. It is because of the fact that a leg with a good length but without explosive strength to be contributing factors for speed and jumping ability which is required for performing with in basketball game. In case of field goal speed test throw for accuracy of playing ability there was a significant difference between the Thigh girth (anthropometric measurement) as the calculated value (20.1864X0.2445) was greater than the table value (0.195) at 0.05 level of significance and no significant relationship was found with dribble test. In case of field goal speed test,throw for accuracy of playing ability there was a significant difference between the calf girth (anthropometric measurement) as the calculated value (0.3440)(0.2490) was greater than the table value (0.195) at 0.05 level of significance and no significant relationship was found with dribble test. In case of field goal speed test and dribble test of playing ability there was a significant difference between the Arm girth (anthropometric measurement) as the calculated value (0.4096)(0.4685) was greater than the table value (0.195) at 0.05 level of significance and no significant relationship was found with throw for accuracy. Arm with a good length can be contributing factor for some of the basketball skill such as long passes; shooting etc. but without good strength can be contributing factor for basketball playing ability. The data was analyzed by using Pearson's product moment correlation (r) for assessing the relationship of basketball playing ability to selected variable of anthropometric measurement.

The 25subjects for each (shot put, discus, javelin, and hammer throwers) were selected from national and international tournaments, India camp, sports authority of India (SAI) and state hostels. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to find out the significant difference among four types of throwers on the above said variables, where significant differences were observed the L.S.D. test was used to compare mean difference. The results of the analysis had shown that mean sitting height-stature index and thigh length-lower leg length index are having insignificant difference among all four throwing groups. However lower arm length-upper arm length index of the four groups differ significantly.

The sedimentary beds associated with Deccan Continental Flood Basalt (DCFB) sequences exposed in the volcanic subprovinces of Jabalpur-Mandla-Chhindwara (JMC) regions of Madhya Pradesh and Nand-Dongargaon (N-D) basin and the adjoining areas to the west in Yeotmal-Nanded in Maharashtra were studied for their palynofloral analysis. The sediments were characterized palynologically and changes in the palynoflora are observed at different stratigraphic levels in a number of sections including several new intertrappean localities recorded in recent years. For the purpose of effective correlation of different subprovinces, palynofloras of some of the previously studied intertrappeans are also reviewed. Our studies suggest that before the start of the Deccan volcanic activity, the palynoflora found in the Lameta sediments, was dominated by gymnosperms-angiosperm association. The plant canopy consisted mainly of gymnosperms (Conifers and Podocarpaceae) whereas, the understory members were mostly of palms and herbs (Poaceae and Asteraceae). The eruption of Deccan volcanic flows severely affected the existing floral association and proved fatal for the well established plant community. The immediately overlying sediments associated with the earliest volcanic flows are dominated by pteridophytes and angiosperm taxa (Azolla cretacea, Aquilapollenites bengalensis, Ariadnaesporites sp., Gabonisporis vigourouxii and Triporoletes reticulatus). Higher up in the stratigraphic sequence, similar forms continued with simultaneous appearance of new taxa including Scabrastephanocolpites spp. At still higher stratigraphic levels, abundance of fungi especially the mycorrhizal fungi, concurrent with sharp decline in pollen/spore recovery was observed. In the culminating phase (i.e. Palaeocene) of Deccan volcanic history a new palynofloral assemblage of typical Palaeocene taxa (Dandotiaspora dilata, D. pseudoauriculata, D. plicata, Spinizonocolpites echinatus, Matanomadhiasulcites sp., and Lakiapollis ovatus) was encountered.

The purpose of this study was to compare of eating disorder in professional, academic and selected sports female personality in Gandhinagar district (Gujarat). 75 girls studying in professional course, 75 girls studying in academic course and 75 selected sports personality were selected randomly from different colleges of Gandhinagar district for the purpose of the study. The age group was between 17 to 25 years. Questionnaire method was employed to collect the relevant data. The criterion measure for testing the hypothesis in this study was the scores obtained in the eating disorder questionnaire. Scholar circulated the questionnaire to the subjects of various categories then he explained the purpose and description of the questionnaire. To find out the comparison of eating disorder in girls of professional course, academic course and selected sports personality "F" test (one way analysis of variance) was applied in statistical procedure. Comparing the entire groups mean we find that there is significant difference between academic mean (25.53) and selected sports female personality mean (25.77) while there is high significant differences in professional mean (28.96) compared to academic and selected sports female personality. Therefore we can say that there is a high eating disorder problem in professional group in comparison of other two groups' i.e. academic and selected sports female personality. Data found from the LSD after comparing the mean of the three groups it was found that, the LSD of academic and selected sports female personality is less significant but when professional group mean was compared with academic and selected sports female personality group a very high significant difference was found. From this we found that the percentage of eating disorder is very high in professional group compared to academic and selected sports female personality group in Gandhinagar.

The changes in biomass of four sites of Bhadrakali lake Warangal during October 2005 to September 2006 was determined. The mean monthly variation of biomass was in be-tween 2.788 to 5.322 gm/m2. There was a substantial reduction in the biomass in seven aquatic macrophytes (Hydrilla verticillata, Spirodela polyrhiza, Sagittaria sagittifolia, Cera-tophyllum demersum, Marsilea quadrifolia, Acorus calamus ami Cvpents rotundus) from 40.0 to 0.2 gm in 40 days of incubation period. The dissolved organic matter content was increased gradually with increased incubation time (0.080 to 0.641 mg/L). The biomass dynamic studies are useful to develop conservation strategies of this drinking water lake.

An attempt has been made for the isolation of keratinolytic bacteria from naturally decomposing feathers. A total of 126 bacterial forms were isolated. The isolated strains were identified on the basis of colonial and morphological characteristics and were further characterized for their keratinolytic potential. Among these 85 isolates were able to utilize feathers as sole source of carbon and nitrogen. High keratinolytic activity was found among strains related to Bacillus and Actinomycetes.

Biomechanical or biophysical principles can be applied to study biological structures in their modern or fossil form. Bone is an important tissue in paleontological studies as it is a commonly preserved element in most fossil vertebrates, and can often allow its microstructures such as lacuna and canaliculi to be studied in detail. In this context, the principles of Fluid Mechanics and Scaling Laws have been previously applied to enhance the understanding of bone microarchitecture and their implications for the evolution of hydraulic structures to transport fluid. It has been shown that the microstructure of bone has evolved to maintain efficient transport between the nutrient supply and cells, the living components of the tissue. Application of the principle of minimal expenditure of energy to this analysis shows that the path distance comprising five or six lamellar regions represents an effective limit for fluid and solute transport between the nutrient supply and cells; beyond this threshold, hydraulic resistance in the network increases and additional energy expenditure is necessary for further transportation. This suggests an optimization of the size of the bone's building blocks (such as osteon or trabecular thickness) to meet the metabolic demand concomitant to minimal expenditure of energy. This biomechanical aspect of bone microstructure is corroborated from the ratio of osteon to Haversian canal diameters and scaling constants of several mammals considered in this study. This aspect of vertebrate bone microstructure and physiology may provide a basis of understanding of the form and function relationship in both extinct and extant taxa.

Antibodies are important tools for experimental research and medical applications. Most antibodies are composed of two heavy and two light chains. Both chains contribute to the antigen-binding site which is usually flat or concave. In addition to these conventional antibodies, llamas and other camelids produce antibodies composed only of heavy chains. Camelids produce functional antibodies devoid of light chains of which the single N-terniinal domain is fully capable of antigen binding. These single-domain antibody fragments (VHH) have several advantages for biotechnological applications. VHH is easily produced as recombinant proteins, designated single domain antibodies (sdAbs) or nanobodies. They are well expressed in microorganisms. They have a high stability and solubility, small size, refolding capacity, and good tissue penetration in vivo. Here we review the property and results of several recent principle studies that open the acuity of using sdAbs for modulating immune functions and for targeting toxins and microbes.

Life stress (number of stressful events and amount of stress) is significantly associated with working status of women. Demands of multiple roles of worker, spouse and parent have the potential to increase stress level.

Protocol was developed for in vitro propagation of Asparagus racemosus L through induction of organogenesis in nodal segment derived callus tissue. Yellowish-green nodular callus was induced on MS medium fortified with 5.0 mg/l BAP and 0.5 mg/l NAA. The callus got differentiated into adventitious shoots when it was subcultured on MS medium supplemented with 3.0 mg/l BAP + 0.5 mg/l Kn + 0.5 mg/l NAA. On an average shoots/culture were developed well, compared to control (6.87+ 0.26). These micro shoots were rooted with 1.0 mg/l IBA and the rooted plantlets were transferred to soil after proper acclimatization.

Data were statistically analyzed by using t-test. The study showed women to have better health in six health domains viz. alcohol, tobacco and drug use, preventive health practices, accident prevention, nutrition and weight control, social health and environmental health. No significant difference was found in remaining four health domains i. e. physical health, exercise and physical fitness, spiritual health and psychological health. Overall, the subjects were not found to have an excellent health.

Six potato varieties were evaluated for functional properties, flavour precursors and SDS-PAGE analysis of total proteins after separation into tubers and peels. Functional properties revealed that water absorption capacity and fat absorption capacity were higher in potato peels than in tubers. However, bulk density was found to be higher in potato tubers as compared to peels. Flavour precursors namely methionine, cystine and cysteine in most of the varieties were higher in potato tubers compared to peels. Protein banding pattern of potato tubers and peels evinced that number of protein bands was more in potato peels than tubers. Molecular weight of protein bands ranged from 15.41 to 98.42 KD.

After one year training period, the difference between pre and post test means in items of athlete's abilities were tested by't' test. Seven polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) degrading bacterial strains were isolated from oil contaminated soil and characterized for specific features regarding Naphthalene & Anthracene degradation. Degradation efficiency was determined by the rapidity to form clear zone around colonies when sprayed with 1% Naphthalene & 1% Anthracene solutions and from the growth in liquid mineral salt medium. Out of seven bacterial isolates two isolates shows maximum diameter of zone of clearance on medium sprayed with Naphthalene & Anthracene. The efficiency to degrade these Naphthalene (57.77%)& Anthracene (39.88%) were evaluated by spectrophotometer in terms of absorbance at 600 nm. The most efficient strains in terms of rapidity to degrade Naphthalene & Anthracene were identified as Pseudomonas species and Staphylo-coccus species and tentatively named as Pseudomonas species P-I and Staphylococcm species P-II. Strain P-I degrades Naphthalene and strains P-I and P-II degrades Anthracene.

The soil productivity can be increased in an eco-friendly way by recycling the biodegradable waste such as vegetable garbage. This would also help to keep the environment clean. In the present work, two grain crops Moong (Phaseolus aureus Roxb) and Udad (Phaseolus mungo) were sown in non-amended soil, soil mixed with vegetable garbage and soil mixed with vegetable garbage and bioculture. The soil fertility was assessed by determining the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium contents of the soil samples periodically. Various plant growth parameters were studied along with microbiological analysis of soil and bioculture. In this study plant growth was found to be more in the soil amended with garbage, while maximum growth was observed in soil amended with garbage and bioculture, where as comparatively less growth was observed in non-amended soil. These results also correlated with the observed N, P, K values and viable counts of the respective soil samples, suggesting that amending soil with vegetable garbage alone or in combination with bioculture increases its productivity.

The remarkable geological and evolutionary history of peninsular India has generated much interest in the patterns I and processes that might have shaped the current distributions of its endemic biota. In this regard the "Out-of-India" hypothesis, which proposes that rafting peninsular India carried Gondwanan forms to Asia after the break-up of Gondwana super continent, has gained prominence. Here we have reviewed molecular studies undertaken on a range of taxa of supposedly Gondwanan origin to better understand the Out-of-India scenario. This re-evaluation of published molecular studies indicates that there is mounting evidence supporting Out-of-India scenario for various Asian taxa. Nevertheless, in many studies the evidence is inconclusive due to lack of information on the age of relevant nodes. Studies also indicate that not all Gondwanan forms of peninsular India dispersed out of India. Many of these ancient lineages are confined to peninsular India and therefore are relict Gondwanan lineages. Additionally, for some taxa an "Into India" rather than "Out-of-India" scenario better explains their current distribution. To identify the "Out-of-India" component of Asian biota it is imperative that we understand the complex biogeographical history of India. To this end, we propose three oversimplified yet explicit phylogenetic predictions. These predictions can be tested through the use of molecular phylogenetic tools in conjunction with palaeontological and geological data.

For many years, the use of classical separation, chromatographic and spectrometric techniques such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry (MS) were initially focused for the elucidation of isolated compounds from different plant matrices. In the last 40 years near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy became one of the most attractive and used methods of analysis which provides simultaneous, rapid and nondestructive quantitation of major components (e.g. protein, dry matter, carbohydrates) in many agriculture related products and plant materials. More recently, the use of NIR spectroscopy has been reported to determine other minor compounds in plant materials. This paper reviews recent applications on the use of NIR spectroscopy to quantitatively analyse plant natural products.

The study was conducted on 30 subjects, those who participated in National athletic championship and Inter-university athletic championship with a purpose to find out correlation between independent variables (selected anthropometric characteristics) and dependent variable (decathlon performance), to study the joint contribution of independent variable in estimating dependent variable and to establish regression equation for predicting dependent variable on the basis of independent variables. Selected anthropometric characteristics were standing height, body weight, arm length, shoulder width, trunk length, leg length, thigh length, thigh girth and calf girth (independent variables). Decathlon performance was considered as dependant variable. To find out correlation between independent variables and dependent variable, product moment method of correlation was used. To study the joint contribution of independent variable in estimating dependent variable, multiple correlation method was used. Regression equation was established for predicting dependent variable on the basis of independent variables. There exists a significant relationship between decathlon performance and body weight, shoulder width, thigh girth, calf girth as the correlation coefficient values were found higher than the tabulated value at 0.05 level of significance. On the other hand, there exists a insignificant relationship between decathlon performance and standing height, arm length, trunk length, leg length, thigh length, as the correlation coefficient values were found lower than the tabulated value at 0.05 level of significance. Regression equation was found fructiferous in estimating decathlon performance on the basis of selected anthropometric characteristics.

Ten each of raw and pasteurized milk samples were collected from various local milk centers from different parts of Akola. They were examined to determine the total number of bacteria by Standard Plate Count method and for the presence of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus spp., Pseudomo-nas spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella spp. Methylene blue reduction test was also performed for raw milk samples which showed that out often samples four samples were poor, three samples were fair, one sample was good and two samples were found to be of excellent quality. Out often pasteurized samples, two samples were of fair quality, six samples were of good quality and two samples were found to be of excellent quality.

The azo dyes that are commonly used as food colorant are converted into mutagenic and carcinogenic compound when acted upon by intestinal microorganisms. In the present study ability of intestinal microorganism E. coli, P. vulgaris and L. casei isolated from fecal samples to degrade Tartrazine and carmoisine (used as food colorants) was investigated. All the organisms showed more than 80% degradation of both the dyes. L. casei showed 95% degradation of tartrazine and 97% degradation of carmoisine in four days. The optimum pH and temperature for decolorization of dyes was found to be 8±0.5 and 40±gradation was monitored spectrophotometrically and by TLC. Primary aromatic amines were detected as one of the degradation products.

The strains present in the soil depend on the geographical area and climatic conditions. A collection of Actinomycetes was developed, predominating Streptomycetes. Enzyme profiling for all the cultures was performed. The selected cultures were characterized biochemically. 16S rRNA sequencing was performed to identify the isolates to genus level.

Hospital environment considered as a potential source of infection by variety of pathogenic microorganism. The important pathogenic microorganisms associated with infections are Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Escherichia coli. Streptococcusfaecalis, Klebsiellapneumoniae, Enterobacter spp etc. 15 different antibiotics were tested against 50 clinical isolates. Most of clinical isolates found to be resistant against Vancomycin. Imipenem was found to be effective against all clinical isolates except one clinical isolate. Rifampicin, Ampicillin, and clindamycin also shows high percentage of resistance against most of clinical isolates. The main aim of the present investigation was to study the effectiveness of different antibiotics and their resistance against different clinical isolates.
