It is found from Maxwell's equations that the magnetic field lines are good analogues of relativistic strings. The Lorentz force per unit length of a magnetic tube is interpretable as the magnus force acting on each individual magnetic tube. In order to present the large scale treatment of magnetic flux quantization, the electromagnetic field is described in terms of the dilatonic and axionic fields via the Kalb-Ramond gauge potential 2-from. If the dilatonic and axionic fields are assumed to bear a definite relation, the dynamical equation characterizing axionic field leads to the vanishing of the Lorentz force. The string-like interaction of the magnetic field lines were the perfectly conducting fluid generates string waves with a velocity less than that of light speed. The conservation of magnetic flux leads to a geometrical condition in the form of the Weingarten identity which ensure the existence of a famioy of "magnetic world sheets". In the process of collapse, a compact spacelike cross-section fo a magnetic tuber terminates into a trapped surface in the magnetic energy grows faster along the fluid flow lines than that along the magnetic field lines.

The thermal instability of a couple-stress fluid with suspended particles is considered. Following the linearized stability theory and normal mode analysis, the dispersion relation is obtained. For stationary convection, couple-stress is found to postpone the onset of convection whereas suspended particles hasten it. It is found that the principle of exchange of stabilities is satisfied. The thermal instability of a couple-stress fluid with suspended particles, in the presence of rotation and magnetic field separately, is also considered. The magnetic field and rotation are found to have stabilizing effects on the stationary convection and introduce oscillatory modes in the system. The sufficient conditions for the non-existence of overstability are also considered.

The proposed method overcomes the inadequacies of earlier techniques and can even yield solutions to problems involving non-convex polygonal forbidden regions. The programming is graphic interactive and enables the user to continuously monitor the state and progress of computation. Mini-sum criteria has been used to find optimum location of a new facility through revised Hook and Jeeves search method.

The results are derived with the help of generalized Kummer's summation theorem, generalized Gauss's second summation theorem, generalized Bailey's summation formula and generalized Watson's theorem obtained in earlier works by Lavoie, Gordin and Rathie. A few known results obtained recently by Kim, Rathie and Choi follow special cases of the main findings.

As applications, some new existence theorems of general quasi-equilibrium problems are obtained in noncompact L-convex spaces. These theorems improve and generalize a number of important known results in recent literature.

The anti-plane problem of extension of a crack with constant velocity in an elastic wedge has been solved. A crack is assumed to emanate from the corner of the wedge when the edges of the wedge are subjected to anti-plane surface tractions. The problem has been solved using self-similarity technique, which is based on the observation that for extermally applied surface traction the particle velocity is dynamically similar. Expressions for shear stress in the plane of the crack, stress intensity factor at the crack tip and stresses at the wedge shaped corners have been derived. Finally, the variations of stress intensity factor with different values of the parameters used in the problem have been presented in the form of graphs.

The linear multiobjective capacitated transportation problem in which the supply and demand constraints are all equality type, capacity restrictions on each route are specified and the objectives are non commensurable and conflicting in nature. The fuzzy programming with hyperbolic membership functions for obtaining efficient solutions as well as the best compromise solution of a multiobjective capacitated transportation problem has been presented. A Fortran program has been developed based on this algorithm. An example is included to illustrate the methodology. Also this method is compared with one existing fuzzy programming with linear membership functions using same example.

Competitive pressures on power plants have seen them attempting to reduce their operating expenses for profitable operations. In India, the plants use wagons of the Indian Railways to transport coal from the mines (in case of domestic coal) or from the ports (in case of imported coal). Once these loaded railway wagons have reached the power plant, they need to be unloaded and released with in a stipulated tiem frame. If there is any delay beyond the stipulated tiem, the power plant has to pay penalty cost to the Indian Railways. In this paper, we describe an analysis of the underlying causes behind these delays. Correlation analysis, queuing theory and simulation are used to mathematically model the coal arrival process in the company. The recommendation suggested by the study is currently under implementation.

The integer quadratic knapsack problem having a single constraint was solved in a previous paper, by a projection method that completely eliminated the need for any transformation of variables. A projection method for general integer quadratic knapsack problem consisting of any finite number of constraints with the help of kuhn-tucker conditions and Branch and Bound Method has been presented.
