Bounded linear operator is said to be nice if its adjoint preserves extreme points of the dual unit ball. Motivated by a description due to Labuschagne and Mas-cioni [9] of such maps for the space of compact operators on a Hilbert space, a description of nice surjections on K(X. Y) for Banach spaces X, Y. has been considered. Authors give necessary and sufficient conditions when nice surjections are given by composition operators. The results imply automatic continuity of these maps with respect to other topologies on spaces of operators. We also formulate the corresponding result for L(X, Y) thereby proving an analogue of the result from [9] for L^p (1 <60> p≠ 2 <60> ∞) spaces. We also formulate results when nice operators are not of the canonical form, extending and correcting the results from [8].

It has been known for some time that distorted finite elements produce relatively (and, sometimes, dramatically) poor results. This has been related to the completeness condition. Investigates this issue and proposes that the abstract mathematical viewpoint represented by the completeness condition is actually a statement of the physical need for a finite element computation to recover accurate stresses in the metric space. This follows from the projection theorem describing finite element analysis which shows that the stresses computed by the displacement finite element procedure are a best approximation of the true stresses at an element as well as global level. The simplest possible element is used to elucidate the principles.

This function is most general in nature and contains a certain class of Feynman integrals, the exact partition function of the Gaussian model in statistical mechanics and several other functions as its particular cases, which are not the special cases of Fox's H-function. The results are believed to be general and unified in nature. A number of (known or new) results follow as special cases, simply by specializing the coefficients and parameters involved herein. For the sake of illustration, some special cases are mentioned briefly.

It has been observed that radial stress has maximum value at the internal surface of the rotating disc made of incompressible material as compared to circumferential stress and this value of radial stress further increases with the increase in angular speed. Strain rates have maximum values at the internal surface for compressible material. Rotating disc is likely to fracture by cleavage close to the inclusion at the bore.
