Nanocrystalline copper orthophosphate {Cu₃(PO₄)₂} with different grain sizes was prepared by a simple and efficient method by changing the concentration of the reactants. The grain sizes were determined through X-ray diffract ion technique. The dielectric properties of the prepared samples were analyzed as a function of frequency and temperature. It is found that the dielectric constant (ε') and dielectric loss (tan δ) of all the samples decrease sharply as the frequency is increased and attains a constant low value at higher frequencies. The ac conductivity (σ_ac) has a low value at smaller frequencies which increases, attains a maximum value and then decreases as the frequency is increased. A similar nature with lower peaks is observed in the very high frequency region also. There is an upward shift in all these values as the temperature is raised. An additional upward shift is observed when the grain size of the samples is reduced.

The benzylidene ring A, the oxazolin-5-one ring system B and the attached phenyl ring C of the title compound (II) are almost planar having interplanar angles between A and B and that between B and C are 4.10 ° and 3.03 ° respectively. The N,N-dimethyl group is nearly coplanar with the benzylidene ring plane. There is no intermolecular hydrogen bond and the molecule is stabilised by the normal van der Waals interaction in the crystalline assembly.

Molar polarization, apparent polarization and the excess values of permitivities (Δ∈', Δ∈"), square of refractive index (Δη²_D ), viscosity (Δη) and activation energy (Ea), were estimated from the measured dielectric data. The results suggest the formation of 1:2 complexes and strong interactions between the molecules of diethylenetriamine and glycerine.

A simple, rapid accurate spectrophotometric method has been employed in estimation of total alkaloid from seeds of Lupinus albus L. and Stichnos-nux-vomica Linn. also known as "turmas" and "vettikal", respectively in siddha system of medicine. The method is precised, as coloured compound is formed between alkaloids and trapaelin `OO' at pH 4.6, subsequently reacted with acid reagent. The violet coloured chromogen is simultaneously measured at 545 nm with a spectrophotometer and this method is found to be accurate, sensitive and more importantly give reproducible results. Henceforth this technique can be adopted for routine quality control experimental purposes.

The maximum value of the driving force responsible for thermal activation is shown to be J/J 131 0.665. Author also has the corresponding expressions for relaxation current J(t) and characteristic relaxation time 116.

The population yield of prompt event does not overlap with the yields of isomer. This deviation indicates that a fraction of the fragments populated decay via the isomeric states. It is more favourable to produce neutron-rich nuclei around ⁶⁸Ni in ⁷⁶Ge (680 MeV) + ¹⁸⁶W reactions than in ⁷⁶Ge (635 MeV) + ¹⁹⁸Pt reaction.

Mobility and magnetoresistance of the two-dimensional electrons in CdSe single quantum wells (SQWs) are calculated in the temperature range of 4.2K-30K incorporating deformation potential acoustic, piezoelectric, and background and remote ionized impurity scatterings using Fermi-Dirac statistics. The mobility agrees with the available experimental result at 4.2K, and is found to be limited mainly by the ionized impurity scattering in the temperature range considered. The magnetoresistance coefficient is found to be more sensitive than the mobility to the changes in the channel width, the background impurity concentration and the magnetic field.

Transparent conducting ZnO:Al films with various film thicknesses have been prepared under Ar-ambient at substrate temperature 100°C by RF-magnetron sputtering. The resistivity of ZnO film decreases from 7.2 x 10^-2 ohm-cm to 8.2 x 10^-4 ohm-cm with the increase of film thickness. The minimum sheet resistance is <126>10 ohm/square and maximum carrier concentration and Hall mobility are 1.36x10²⁰ cm^-3 are 55.7 cm²/volt.sec respectively. All the films are highly transparent (above 90% visible transmission) in visible wavelength region and IR-transmission is very sensitive with film thickness. The crystallinity has been greatly improved with increase of film thickness upto certain limit, confirmed from X- ray diffraction pattern (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis. Surface morphologies are different for different thicknesses confirmed by Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM). The effect of variation of ZnO thickness as back reflector on the a-Si solar cell performance is significant.

In this framework, the Yrast spectra with J^II ≥ 10⁺, B(E2) transition probabilities and quadrupole (β₂) deformation parameters have been obtained. The calculated results (β₂) give an indication that it is important to include the hexadecapole-hexadecapole component of the two-body interaction for obtaining various nuclear structure quantities in Zr isotopes. The simultaneous polarization of p_3/2 and f_5/2 proton sub-shells is a significant factor making a sizeable contribution to the deformation in neutron rich Zr isotopes.

Two-ionic model for 2D aqueous electrolytes is modified to make it compatible with the real physical systems by the introduction of grand canonical sampling for many ion systems. The interacting panicles are represented by charge distribution with nonzero charge, dipole and quadrupole moments. The possible interactions existing in the system are charge-charge, charge-dipole, charge-quadrupole and dipole-dipole. Analysis of the obtained data is clarified and better understood by comparing it with Arrhenious' form. This points to the restriction in the motion of the ions in two dimension compared to that in three dimension of the same system. The concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficient suggests a structural transition. The Monte Carlo study of the temperature dependence of the diffusion coefficient also indicates the existence of a phase transition. The spurious changes in the diffusion data obtained can be analysed by the conjecture of site blocking. A thorough study and critical analysis of the effect of decreasing temperature on the samples with added cation to limit motions in the 2D system, reveals an interesting information - a signature of glass transitions.

For B-type delayed flourescence coronene molecules were excited in a two-step process. In the first step, an excited singlet S₁ was created, which undergoes intersystem crossing to T₁ state; then T-T absorption creates an excited triplet of coronene molecule, which returns to the first excited singlet level S₁ by intersystem crossing from T₂ to S₁. The recreated first excited singlet state of coronene decays back to the ground state S₀ by emitting B-type delayed flourescence.

The structure factor derived by Percus-Yevick solution for hard sphere fluids, which is characterized by hard sphere diameter, is used. A good agreement between theoretical investigations and experimental findings has confirmed the ability of the model potential to the liquid d and f - shell metals.

Author present extensive results of Reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) simulation of the static structural properties of liquid selenium from 573K to 1773K based on the diffraction data of linui et al (J Non Cryst Solids 250-252, 519 (1999)). In all cases, the positions of 5000 atoms in a configuration box were altered until the resulting static structure factor S(q) was in agreement with the experimental one. From the simulations, author were able to extract information on the temperature dependence of the pair distribution function g(r), bond angle correlation b(cosθ) and coordination number distribution P(N). From calculations, author deduce that with increase in temperature, there is a decrease in the fraction of two-fold coordinated atoms indicative of a destruction of the chain like structure of Se. Furthermore, results indicate that the transition from a semiconducting to a metallic state with increasing temperature is accompanied by structural changes.

Author present an overview of the implications of the WMAP data for particle physics. The standard parameter set ε, χ and ξ characterising the inflaton potential can be related to the power-law indices characterising deviation of the CMB spectrum from the scale invariant form. Different classes of inflation potentials are in turn naturally associated with different unified schemes. At present WMAP does not exclude any but a few simple unified models. In particular, hybrid models favoured by supersymmetric unification continue to be viable. However, future improvement in data leading to better determination of the `running' of power-law indices should help to narrow the possibilities for unified models. The main conclusion is that WMAP is consistent with the paradigm of GUT scale (10¹⁶ GeV) inflation.

These measurements were carried out by using the ultrasonic pulse echo overlap (PEO) technique at a frequency of 5 MHz at temperature 298K. The values of these thermodynamic parameters show non-linear behaviour with increase in molar concentration of antimicrobials. This shows the presence of molecular interactions, complex formation, formation of hydrogen bonds, solute-solvent interactions in the antimicrobial solution.

Consequently, the selection rules for neutrinos may be different. In particular, it the scale of lepton number breaking is similar to the scale of horizontal symmetry breaking, neutrinos may become flavor-blind even if they carry different horizontal charges. This provides an attractive mechanism for neutrino flavor anarchy.

Many exaperiments are being planned to measure the neutrino mixing angles more precisely. In this note, the theoretical significance of a high precision measurement of these parameters is discussed. It is emphasized that they can provide crucial informaction about different ways to understand the origin of large atmospheric neutrino mixing and move us closer towards determining the neutrino mass matrix. They may also be able to throw light on the question of lepton-quark unification as well as the existence of any leptonic symmetries. For instance if exact μ ↔ τ symmetry in the neutrino mass matrix is assumed to be the reason for maximal v_μ - v_τ mixing, on egets θ₁₃ = 0 and θ₁₃ ≈ √ Δm²_⊗/Δm^{2< D>_A} or ~Δm²_⊗/Δm² _A can provide information about the way the μ ↔ τ symmetry breaking manifests in the case of normal hierachy.

A wide - range viscosity standard system has generally been realized with capillary viscometers, which are calibrated by the stepping-up method on the basis of viscosity value of distilled water at 20°C. An extension of this scale is being realized up to 100 000 mm²/s. The aim of this work is to re-realize the NIS viscosity scale and make an intercomparison between NIS-Egypt and IMGC-Italy in the range from 14 000 to nearly 70 000 mm²/s. National Institute for Standards (NIS) viscosity scale using glass capillary viscometers was realized for the first time during 2001. The scale was realized from 1 to nearly 70 000 mm²/s. The values were obtained for NIS viscometers on subsequent recalibrations over a period of some years. From the results obtained on recalibration of the National Institute for Standards viscometers and the comparisons made with IMGC - Italy, it can be concluded that the present scale is realized with an uncertainty of about 0.4% at low viscosities (2 mm²/s) rising to about 1% at higher viscosities (100 000 mm²/s).

The inflationary paradigm provides a robust description of the peculiar initial conditions which are required for the success of the hot Big Bang model of cosmology, as well as of the recent precistion measurements of temperature flucturations within the cosmic microwave background. Furthermore, the success of this description indicates that inflation is likely to be associated with physics at energies cousiderably higher than the weak scale, for which string theory is arguably our most promising candidate. These observations strongly motivate a detailed search for inflation within string theory, although it has (so far) proven to be a hunt for a fairly elusive quarry. This article summarizes some of the recent efforts along these lines, and draws some speculative conclusions as to what the difficulty in finding inflation might mean.

The importance of a supe-B factory in the search for new physics, in particular, due to CP-odd phase(s) from physics beyond the standard model is surveyed. The first point to emphasize is that we now know how to directly measure all three angles of the unitarity triangle very cleanly, i.e. without theoretical assumptions with irreducible theory error ≤1%. However, this requires much more luminosity than is currently available at B-factories. Direct searches via penguin-dominated hadronic modes as well as radiative, pair-leptonic and semi-leptonic decays are also discussed. Null tests of the SM are stressed as these will play a crucial role especially if the effects of BSM phase(s) on B-physics are small.

Freezing points of Tin and Zinc have been realized at the National Institute for Standards (NIS) in order to fulfill the requirements of the International Temperature Scale of 1990. The tin and zinc cells were measured at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL, UK). The work presents descriptions and measurements made to realize the two fixed points at NIS and then compared to the NPL, UK measurements. It includes a full description of uncertainty sources. Results showed uncertainties (k=2) of 0.61 and 0.57 mK for tin and zinc respectively.

Fundamental thermoelectric properties of Au/Pt, Pt/Pd and Pt-10%Rh/Pt thermocouples, mainly tnermoelectric emfs, repeatability, homogeneity and stability have been investigated. The thermocouples were fabricated from high purity wires and have been exposed to 962 °C for 300 hours. The thermocouples were calibrated at the Zn, Al and Ag freezing point cells. It was found that the thermal stability at Ag freezing point of the Au/Pt and Pt/Pd thermocouples is within ± 69 mK (k=2) and ± 68 mK (k=2) respectively and Pt-10%Rh/Pt thermocouple has stability of± 188 mK (k=2). The results show that the thermal properties of Au/Pt thermocouple such as Seebeck coefficient, long term stability, repeatability, hysteresis, drift and homogeneity are better than these of Pt/Pd and Pt-10%Rh/Pt thermocouples. The results imply that the noble metal thermocouples possess thermal characteristics which may make them suitable for use as a preferred temperature sensor in the range 0 °C to 1000 °C.

An analysis of solar neutrino oscillation has been presented. The recent evidence of neutrino oscillations in the atmospheric neutrino data presented by Super Kamio Kande (SK) and Sudhury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) have moved neutrino physics to the centre stage of research activity. The solar neutrinos are produced in standard reaction the p-p chain, CNO cycle, etc., responsible for the generation of heat and light. Through the spectrum of neutrinos from each of the processes is well known, their absolute normalizations very from one solar model to another. The two latest detectors, SNO and SK, are sensitive to neutrinos from only the boron reaction in the p-p chain. The results for mass spliting and mixing angle υ obtained in fitting the first six moments of the electron spectrum have been presented. There are several local minina which give almost equally good fits to the data for both the sequential and sterile options. For both the cases presented, the preferred mixing in maximal but the best values of Δ are some what different. These results can be compared with those available in literature for vacuum oscilations to sequential neutrions by fitting the first six moments of the electron spectrum. Of the values of Δ presented, the larger one is just above the best fit point while the other falls in their allowed region. The sterile neutrino alternative gives a slightly smaller (χ²)_min but the difference isnot large enough yet to be deemed significant.

Effect of overtaking disturbances on the Plane, Cylindrical and Spherical strong shocks propagating in logarithmically varying density region has been investigated by the method proposed in earlier paper. Assuming an initial density distribution ρ₀ = ρ' log r, where ρ' is the density at axis of symmetry/centre, analytical relation for shock velocity and shock strength modified by overtaking wave has been derived. The results obtained here are compared with those for freely propagating shock.

Neglecting the effect of overtaking disturbances. Chester-Chisnell-Whitham metod has been used to study the propagation of strong converging spherical and cylindrical shock in water. Analytical relations for flow variables have been obtained for initial density distribution ρ₀=ρ'r^μ, where μ is a constant and ρ' is the density at centre/axis of symmetry. Finally the results obtained here are compared with those for diverging shocks.

Infrared and Laser Rasman spectra of 4, 6-Dichloro-2-Methyl thio-5-Phenyl Pyrimidine have been studied. Assiognments of the Fundamentals have been proposed with special emphasis on frequencies due to hydrogen bonded modes. The both spectrum have been analysed on the basis of C_2v point group symmetry, magnitude, relative intensity of the recorded spectra and group frequency approach with analogy to the similar molecules. The bands regarding Chlorine, Methyl thio and Phenyl group and ring sets are well interpreted and correlated with similar molecules.

Phonon dispersion frequencies at different points of a NaBr crystal have been theoretically determined. The dispersion curve, in the study has been obtained from a theory based on only five parameters, which are again reduced to four in view of the equilibrium condition. For the lattice dynamics of NaBr crystal, the first nearest nabour intractions in the valence force field model (VFFM) have been considered. Used Debye's theory of specific heat of a crystal for the determination of specific heat of NaBr crystal. The Debye's characteristic temperature are obtained from the specific heat results. These results are compared with the available experimental data are found that result agrees fairly well with the experimental data of specific heat at low temperatures.

In order to investigate the distribution of sediments within the estuary and the near-shore bar area, six samples in the estuary area (Stations 1,2,7,8,9,10) as well as six sandbars samples (Stations 3,4,5,6,11,12) were collected in, and close to, the Terengganu River mouth. Sediment samples for the estuaries and sandbars were collected along the study area three times from August to October 2002. The study focused on the differences of the estuaries and sandbars sediment which involved sampling of bottom sediment analysis of 12 sandbar and estuary stations. The results indicate that the depth range at the estuaries is between 2.9 to 9.8 m, while at areas of sandbars is between 4.3 to 7.5 m. Results also indicate that the depth range at the estuary were deeper than the sandbar areas. The currents speed was higher at the sandbar compared to the estuary areas. Both stations were dominated by coarse sand, though station 9 and 10 are dominated the fine sand.
