Thermally Stimulated Conductivity (TSC) study has been made on CaS:Ce phosphors, prepared with different activtor concentrations. Energies of trap levels corresponding to peaks were calculated using three different methods. Trap depths/activation energy, relaxation time and attempts to escape frequency are evaluated. The variation in the vcalues of trap depths is studied for the observation of TSC ofα-irradiated phosphors.

Temperature and intensity dependence of photoconductivity (σ_ph) is studied in vacuum evaporated thin films of Se₈₅Te₁₅ and Se₈₃Te₁₅Sn₂ with view to see the effect of Sn impurity on the photoconductive behaviour of binary a-Se₈₅Te₁₅ alloy. Dark conductivity (σ_d) is also measured as a function of temperature. The dark conductivity, σ_d increase and activation energy (Δ_E) decreases after the addition of Sn impurity. σ_ph decreases upoon Sn incorporation. Rise of potocurrent shows a maximum before attaining the steady state value and this behaviour decreases after the addition of Sn impurity. Photosensitivity (σ_ph/σ_d) also decreases. The results are explained in terms of the increase in the density of defect states on Sn incorporation in the Se₈₅Te₁₅ binary alloy.

The topology of the circuit is amenable for construction using translinear conveyors (CCCII) also. This version of the circuit facilitates electronic control of cutoff frequency besides offering saving in components as it employs only one capacitor and two resistors instead of five passives. The realizability condition for allpass response is simple and temperature independent. The circuit enjoys low sensitivity figures. The, PS (PSPICE) PICE simulation is obtained confirming the theoretical analysis.

The effects of wave function modulation on the high frequency response of GaAs/AIAs quantum wells with several thin barrier layers being inserted inside the wells are studied. Carrier scattering by longitudinal optic phonons, deformation potential acoustic phonons and backgroundionized impurities are considered. The wave function modulation induced inside the quantum well is found to reduce the scattering strength and reduces the ac mobility by the dc mobility because the enhancement rate of dc mobility is much higher than the ac values. The variation of ac mobility normalized by dc mobility with the frequency of the applied field is found to be fairly constant upto a certain frequency beyond which it drops down.

The half life time and other characteristics for the emission of clusters like ⁸Be, ¹⁶O, ²⁰Ne, ²⁴Mg, ²⁸Si and ³²S have been computed within the Coulomb and proximity potential model and the predicted half life time values have been compared with other models. It is found that ⁸Be emission from ¹¹²Ba is most favourable for measurements with the lowest half life time value [log₁₀)(T_1/2) = 7.23_s]. Geiger-Nuttall (GN) plots for all clusters have been studied and are found to be linear. It is found that the inclusion of proximity potential will not produce any deviation from the linear nature of GN plots. The nuclear structure and shell effects are evident from the observed variation in slope and intercept of GN plots.

The density, viscosity and ultrasonic velocity in binary liquid mixtures of morpholin, piperidine with methanol and pyridine have been determined at different temperatures from 303.15 to 318.15K over the whole composition range. These data have been utilized to estimate the excess volumes V^E, deviation in viscosity (Δη), deviation in adiabatic compressibility (Δη_ad) and excess intermolecular free length (L^E_f) at the above temperatures. The excess values have been found to be usefull in estimating the strength of the interactions in the liquid mixtures. Analysis of these parameters indicates that there are intermolecular interactions among components of the binary mixtures that lead to the possible hydrogen bond formation (of the type N...H-O and N...H-N) between unlike molecules.

Mechanoluminescence (ML) in coloured alkali halide crystals is reported. During impulsive excitation of V-irradiated alkali halide crystals, two peaks are observed in the ML intensity versus time curves. The first peak lies in the deformation region and the second peak in the post deformation region. The ML in the deformation region is due to the recombination of dislocation-trapped electrons with the holes in defect centres. The ML in the post-deformation region is due to the transient thermostimulated luminescence from shallow traps which get populated due to the Augerprocess occurring during transfer of doslocation-trapped electrons to deep traps. In the frame work of the mechanism proposed, an equation is derived which is able to explain the ML in the deformation and post-deformation region of the crystal. Several other facts related to the ML produced during impulsive excitation of coloured alkali halide crystals, are also discussed.

The title compound crystallizes in tetragonal space group p4₁ and its structure has been refined upto the reliability index of 5%. There occurs N-H...N bond at a distance of 2.19 and 3.01 A, respectivley and it appers to be formed by symmetry-related amino atom and nitrogen atom of the parental thiazole ring. The crystal cohesion is pronounced, may be due to an intramolecular phyenyl-thiazole C-H...N interaction.

Integrated optical transmittance (IOT) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) studies of two nematic liquid crystal mixtures (ZLI-3497-100 and ZLI-3741) were made for phase transition measurements, during both heating and colling cycles. Transition temperatures, transition enthalpies (ΔH) and entropies (ΔS) have been determined using DSC technique. The IOT and DSC studies indicated good agreement for the transition temperatures for the both mesogens, which exhibited broad nematicisotropic phase transition. The different peaks observed in IOT studies during phase transitions seems to correspond to different consituents of the mesogens.

Some new charge transfer complexes of organic donors and acceptors were prepared and the infrared spectra in the range 400-4000 cm^-1 were obtained. The analysis of featureless absorption between the two envelopes at 1400cm^-1 and 3400 cm^-1 were carried out for the transitions across the band gap. Six complexes show spectral characteristic of the presence of charge density waves. Electron-phonon resonance is found. Bands are ascribed to various intramolecular bond vibrations of donor and acceptors. Systematic distortion of the Gaussian band as the occurrence of electron - phonon resonance is discussed. Other four complexes show variation of the band gap.

The title compound [C₁₃ H₁₃ O₄ N] has been taken up for study as it shows non-linear optical (NLO) properties with an electron withdrawing group at one end an electron donating group at the other, with an extended conjugation in between. The crystal structure has been determined at room temperature. Needle like crystals of the compound crystallizes in monoclinic system, space group P2₁/n with cell dimensions a = 10.646(3)A, b = 9.351(4)A, c = 12.647(5)a, β = 97.13(3)° and Z = 4. The structure was solved by direct method and refined by full-matrix least-squares method to a final R = 0.046 for 1933 observed reflections. The molecule on the whole is almost planar, the methoxy group makes a dihedral angle of 0.7° with planar phenyl ring. The carbethoxy moiety forms an extended planar zigzag chain with the neighboring atoms. The molecules are held by strong O-H....O, C-H....O and C-H....N inter- and intra- moleculer hydrogen bonds.

A method is proposed for the chemical compositional analysisi fo the mixed semiconducting thin films. The technique is presently used for extraction, spearation and spectrophotometric determination of cadmium (II), selenium (IV) and tellurium (IV) from sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid media with 4'-bromo PTPT in chloroform. This method is sensitive, rapid reproducible and has been satisfactorily applied for the separation and determination of trace amounts of Cd, Se and Te from CdSe_1-x thin films. The results are compared with analysis of these films by and EDS technique.

Light emitting diodes based on organic materials are of considerable interest owing to their attractive characteristics and potential applications in flat panel displays. This paper focuses on some important blue light emitting organic materials. Particularly the attention has been paid to the absorption, photoluminescence (PL), electroluminescence (EL) spectra, current-voltage (I-V) and luminescence-voltage (L-V) characteristics of blue light emitting organic semiconductors, as well as those of the para-hexaphynyl (PHP). Syntheses of some important blue light emiting materials have also been discussed. Para hexaphenyl (PHP), which was synthesized by the conventional Kovacic method, is one of the important blue light emitting π-conjugated olgomers. Oleds fabricated, using PHP as an emitter, TPD and PBD as the hole transport layer and electron transport layer respectively, gave efficient blue electroluminescence. The photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) of PHP occur at 423 nm, indicating PHP as ansa excellent blue emitter. This oligomer showed strong absorption peaks at 297 and 318 nm. The devices showed non-linear electrical properties and bright electroluminescence with low turn on voltages (9V). Recent work in the development of a variety of blue light emitting devices has been included and discussed in detail.

A correlation between the rotational correlation time from NMR and the dielectric relaxtion time for the two systems have been reported. The material CuIn_xGa_1-xSe₂ (CIGS with 0<60>r<60>0.3) has attracted much attention, recently, all over the world as a propspective material for photovoltaic application. The addition of gallium in CIS (CuInSe₂) considerably improves not only the performance but the stability and efficency of the device also. A theoretical analysis of variation of short circuit current density (J_sc) of polycrystalline solar cell has been reported. As the grain size (d_G) and grain boundary recombination velocity (S_GB) play an important role in deciding device characteristics, the calculations of the dependence of short-circuits photocurrent density (J_SC) have been done on these parameters. The results show a good agreement with the experimental results. A small discrepancy may be attributed to the fact that the typical shape of the grains was assumed to be square-face columnar shaped.

C65 034007 (2002) is employed to reproduce structural properties of ¹¹Li like probability distribution, matter radius, momentum distributions and n-n correlation. The energy positions and widths of resonant states of ¹¹Li above the breakup threshold threshold have been calculated using the complex scaling method. The model is further extended to study the β decay of ¹¹Li to deuteron + ⁹Li channel and to ¹¹Be* (18.3 MeV) state.

The spectral characteris of few naturally occurring molluscan shells have been investigated with the help of laser induced fluorescence, X-Rays, absorption and FTIR spectroscopic techniques. The laser induced fluorescence (LIF) or the stimulated laser induced fluorescence from molluscan shells exhibits diffuse bands in the region 5860-6350 Angstrom and some discrete bands in the region 5000-5400 Angstrom. The fluorescence spectra of different shells are found to be different. The FTIR spectra show predominantly the vibrational bands of CaCO₃. But there are additional bands, which are not characteristic of CaCO₃. The X-ray photograph and iridescence pattern of few shells are presented.

The recently proposed model potential which includes covalent correction terms, is employed to calculate total energy, energy band gap at Jones-zone face and bulk modulus of GaP, GaAs, GaSb, InP, In As and InSb. The ratio of the covalent bonding term E_cov to the second order term E₂ confirms the essentiality of higher order correction for zinc blende-type crystals. The claculated numerical results for the total energy, energy band gap at Jones-zone face and bulk modulus of these compounds are in good agreement with the experimental data than other such theoretical findings.

The passivation effects of GaAs surface. The passivation effect of GaAs surface by Gas has been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and photoluminescence (PL). The XPS spectra show that Ga-S bonds are found to be more stable than As-S bonds. These Ga-s bonds. These Ga-s bonds are responsible for the passivation of GaAs surfaces. PL measurements suggest that the GaAs surface is effectively passivated by a Gas films. Staggered type of band alignment has been observed at the Gas/GaAs interface.

Static permittivity at 100 kHz, complex permitivity at 8.93 GHz and high frequency permittivity at frequency of the D-lines of sodium of cyclohexylamine (CHA), acetophenone (ACT), p-chloroacetophenone (PCLA) and for the binary mixtures of CHA+ACT and CHA+PCLA have been measured in dilute solutions of benzene at different temperatures. The measured values of permittivity and dielectric loss have been used to evaluate relaxation times [τ₀, τ(1) and τ(2)], dipole moment (μ), distribution parameter (α) and thermodynamical parameters like molar free energy of activation (ΔF_ε), molar enthalpy of activation (ΔH_ε) and molar entropy of activation (ΔS_ε). The relaxation times of binary mixture compositions are consistent with the computed values obtained from various theoretical methods. Present study suggests the existence of both the intramolecular and overall orientation in both the binary mixtures. Formation of complexes is noticed in 1:1 binary mixture of CHA+PCLA.

Pure and amino acid doped potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystals have been grown by solution technique at room temperature. The powder X-ray diffraction studies for the grown crystals have been made. The dielectric behaviour of the pure and doped crystals has been studied in the microwave region using K-band microwave bench equipped with the Gunn oscillator and guided with rectangular wave guide. The grown crystals are subjected to Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA) and differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), in order to identify the changes in the thermal stability and structural phase transitions.

Presents a detailed study on the azimuthal fluctuations of the pions produced in nuclear emulsion from high energy relativistic interactions initiated by ¹⁶O-AgBr at 2.1 AGeV, ¹²C-AgBr interactions at 4.5 AGeV and ²⁴Mg-AgBr interactions at 4.5 AGeV. The outcome of this analysis signifies the existence of strong azimuthal asymmetry in the multipion production process. Asymmetry is also found to depend on the number of pions produced.

Individual profile and whole pattern fitting method with and without any micro-structural constraints, were done using split pseudovoidgt, split pearson-VII and symmertric pseudo-Voigt convoluted with an asymmetric function to functions on a specially prepared standard Si-sample. The values of caglioti parameters U, V, W and profile shape parameters (viz. Lorentzian content and profile tail decay rates) are modified by the inclusion of micro-structural parameters in the refinement process. The critical analysis with different specimen clearly shows that for cases with considerable broadening whole or individual profile fitting can be adopted successfully. But for marginally broadened case, the correct procedure will be to adopt only whole profile fitting process with micro-structural constraints and not with individual profile fitting technique.

In this study, the diffraction model is employed to study the cluster stripping nuclear reaction on the basis of the Regge-pole method. A formula for the angular distribution is derived. The angular distribution spectra for the cluster stripping nuclear reactions ⁴⁰Ca(³He,p)⁴²Sc, ⁴⁰Ca(t,p)⁴²Ca and ⁵⁴Fe(t,p)⁵⁶Fe at various energies have been well reproduced with projectile energies varying between 10 MeV and 15 MeV. The predicted theoretical results for the cluster stripping recctions ⁴⁰Ca(³He,p)⁴²Sc, with 10 MeV, 12 MeV and 15 MeV incident ³He, ⁴⁰Ca(t,p)⁴²Ca with 10.1 MeV incident triton: and ⁵⁴Fe(t,p)⁵⁶Fe with 12 MeV incident triton were compared with the experimental data and good agreement was observed. Also a comparison between the diffraction model prediction of the angular distribution values for the cluster stripping rection ⁴⁰Ca(³He,p)⁴²Sc at energy 12 MeV of ³He and that of the distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) is implemented and a satisfactory agreement between the two methods has been attained.
