Simple, accurate and convenient titrimetric methods have been developed for the analysis of some synthetic binary transition metal ion mixtures [Ce(IV) + Mo(VI); Cr(VI) + Mo(VI); V(V) + Mo(VI); V(V) +V(IV); V(V) + Ce(IV) and V(V) + Cr(VI)] using iron(II) as a reductant in phosphoric acid medium. The method consists in titrating a metal ion mixture with iron(II) first in 6-7 M phosphoric acid medium using N-phenyl anthranilic acid (NPA) or ferroin as a redox indicator for Ce(IV), Cr(VI) or V(V) and then in 11-12 M phosphoric acid medium using resorufm as an indicator for Mo(VI) and V(V1). From the two titer values the amounts of metal ions present in mixtures can be computed. To explain the suitability of the redox indicators in the titrations, present workers have measured their transition potentials of the indicators used and compared them with the redox potentials of the metal ion systems.

These complexes were also screened for thier antifungal activity against Phoma-exigua, Macrophomina-phaseoli and Colletotrichum capsici at 100, 50 and 20 ppm. The activity decreases with decrease of concentration.

Surface tension of titanium soaps solutions in mixed Organic solvents has been measured at 313 K and the data have been discussed on the basis of Langmuir's approximate equation γ = γ₀ (1 + x 1n.γ) - γ₀ x 1n c. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) values obtained from γ -log C plots, decrease with increasing chain length of soap. Constant χ depends on chain length of soap. Constant γ above CMC increase with increasing chain length, but do not show any definite trend above this concentration. Surface alloys covered by the soap micelles formed by male of soap have also been evaluated.

A series of carboxamides of aminothiazolyl 2H-1-benzo-pyran-2-one were synthesized by treating 2'-amino-4'-[3-(2H-1-benzopyran-2-one)]thiazole with acid chlorides. The former compound was obtained by cyclizing 3-bromoacetyl 2H-1-benzopyran-2-one with thiourea. The structure of the synthesized compounds have been characterized on the basis of spectral data such as IR, ¹H NMR and mass spectral studies and evaluated for antibacterial activity by agar cup plate method. Out of the compounds tested, few showed significant antibacterial activity.

The corrosion of zinc in nitric acid containing toluidines has been studied at different acid concentration, inhibitor concentration and temperature. In acid, corrosion increases with concentration of acid and with temperature. At constant acid concentration, the inhibition efficiency (I.E.) of toluidines increases with concentration. At constant inhibitor concentration, the I.E. increases with the concentration of acid. At 40 mM inhibitor concentration in 0.15 M HNO₃ acid at 301 K for 24 h immersion period, the I.E. decrease in the order : m-toluidine (90.0%) > p-toluidine (89.7%) > o-toluidine (71.0%). As temperature increases, the rate of corrosion increases, while percentage of inhibition decreases. The mode of inhibition action appears to be chemisorption since the plot of log (6/1-9) versus log C gives straight line which suggest that the inhibitors cover both the anodic and cathodic regions through general adsorption following the Langmuir isotherm. Anodic and cathodic galvanostatic polarization curves show little anodic but significant cathodic polarization.

The interactions of Cu(ll), Co(ll) and Ni(ll) metal ions with 1 (2'-hydroxy-5'-bromophenyl)-3(2'-Chlorophenyl)-1, 3-propanedione (L₁) and 1 (2'-hydroxy-5'-bromophenyl)-3(4'-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanedione (L₂) have been substituted at 0.1 M ionic strength in 70% Dioxane-water mixture by Bjerrum method as adopted by Calvin and Wilson. It is observed that Cu(ll), Co(ll) and Ni(ll) metal ions form 1:1 and 1:2 complexes with ligands (L₁ & L₂). The data obtained were used to estimate and compare the values of proton-ligand stability constant (pK) and metal-ligand stability constants (log k). From estimated data (pK & log k), the effect of substituents were studied.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as free radicals and peroxides exist inherently in all aerobic organisms. Antioxidants have been widely used as food additives to provide protection against oxidative degradation of foods by free radicals. These antioxidants bind and inactivate the free radicals plant and mushrooms are good antioxidant materials. In present study, antioxidant activitiy of Cantharellus cibarius Fr. determined. Total phenolic concentration of the extracts was estimated with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent using gallic acid as standard. Free radical scavenging activities were determined based on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH). Results were compared with standard butylated hydroxytoluene and buty-lated hydroxyanisole.

Two new simple and selective assay methods have been presented for the resolution and determination of the binary mixtures of carvedilol (CRV) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) in pharmaceutical formulations. The first method depends on first derivative ultraviolet spectrophotometry (¹D) with zero-crossing technique of measurements at 248 and 285 nm for CRV and HCTZ, respectively. The assay was linear over the concentration ranges 0.05-1.5 μg ml/ for CRV and 0.5-15 μg mL^-1 for HCTZ. The determination limit for CRV and HCTZ were found to be 0.025 and 0.25 μg mL^-1, respectively; while the detection limit were 0.005 μg mL^-1 for CRV and 0.1 μg mL^-1 for HCTZ. The second method was based on isocratic reversed-phase liquid chromatography (HPLC) on Nucleosil LC₁₈ column (25 cm x 4.6 mm), using a mobile phase aceto-nitrile-10 mM potassium dihydrogen phosphate (pH 3.0), (30:70 v/v) at flow rate of 1 mL/min. Losartan was used as an internal standard and the substances were detected at 230 nm. The linearity range were 0.05-1.00 and 0.1 -1.0 μg ml^-1 for CRV and HCTZ, respectively. The determination and detection limit were found to be 0.02 and 0.005 μg mL^{-1 for CRV and 0.05 and 0.01 μg mL-1 for HCTZ, respectively. The proposed methods were successfully applied for the determination of these drugs in synthetic mixtures and commercially available tablets. The results were compared statistically at 95% confidence level with each other. There was no significant difference between the mean percentage recoveries and precision of the two methods.}

The synthesized chalcones were evaluated for their antioxidant activity using ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and DPPH free radical scavenging methods. Both compounds showed antioxidant activity, in comparison with trolox.

The drinking water of IM2 hand pumps at Moradabad is found to be either moderately contaminated or excessively contaminated at almost all the sites during the course of study. However, drinking water is uncontaminated at site no.l & V and fit for human consumption and domestic usage. Some strict and effective measures for underground drinking water quality management are earnestly needed at Moradabdad in the catchment area of study.

Friedal craft acylation of substituted aromatic hydrocarbon in the presence of anhydrous aluminium chloride yield β-( p-substituted benzoyl) propionic acid. After the reaction with hydrazine hydrate the β-(p-substituted phenyl) propionic acid yield 6-(p-substituted phenyl)-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-pyridazine-3-one that on reaction with ethylbromoacetate yield ethyl ester of the appropriate pyridazinone. The final compounds were synthesized by reaction of [6-oxo-3-(p-substituted phenyl)-5,6-dihydro-4H-pyridazine-l-yl] acetic acid ethyl ester with hydrazine hydrate. The synthesized compounds were tested for anticonvulsant activity by MES (maximal electro shock) method.

The aqueous extract of Ocimum sanctum as corrosion inhibitor on mild steel in 1 N hydrochloric acid was studied using the weight loss method, gasometric, potentiodynamic polarization and impedance method. The maximum inhibition efficiency was 99.6% in the optimum concentration of the extracts% in v/v. Similarly, in gasometric method, maximum efficiency was 98.6% in the same concentration. It was confirmed by potentiodynamic polarization and impedance methods, which showed a maximum efficiency of 99.7% and 97.9% respectively in the same concentration. The effect of immersion time from 3 hrs to 24 hrs at 30°C on corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1N HCl in the presence of the optimum concentration of the inhibitor (6% in v/v) revealed that the extract of Ocimum sanctum has maximum efficiency of 99.6% in 3 hours immersion time. Potentiodynamic polarization studies indicated that the plant extract behaves as mixed type inhibitor. The results show that 6% in v/v aqueous extract of the leaves of Ocimum sanctum could serve as an effective inhibitor on the corrosion of mild steel in 1 N hydrochloric acid medium.

The linearity lies between 4-12 mcg/mL for paracetamol and 4-40 mcg/mL for piroxicam. The results of recovery studies confirm the accuracy of the proposed method.

A PVC membrane electrode of aminophylline and tungstophos-phoric acid association complex was constructed. The basic electrode's performance characteristics were evaluated. The prepared electrode exhibits a Nernstain response (19.6 ± 0.2 mV/decade) over the concentration range of aminophylline 1 x 10^-2-5 x 10^-6 M of solutions of pH 4-7. Common organic and inorganic cations showed negligible interference. Direct potentiometric determination of 1 x 10^-2-5 x 10^-6 M aqueous aminophylline using this membrane electrode system showed an average recovery of 99.80 with mean standard deviation ± 0.919. The electrode gave a good stability reproducibility and fast response. These characteristics of the electrode enable it to be used successfully for the determination of aminophylline in pure form, pharmaceutical preparations and in biological fluids.

The upper particle size is an important parameter in flotation operation and the sharp decrease of flotation response when particle size approaches such a limit is well known phenomenon. Nowadays, particle size is often measured and controlled in flotation concentrators. In study the dependence of the dimensionless hydrodynamic parameters (Reynolds Number-Re, Froude Number-Fr and Weber Number-We) on the particle size variation was investigated on the quartz particles using laboratory mechanical flotation cell. Maximum flotation response was observed at Re = 89800, Fr = 2.4 and We = 1558. For either more quiescent (Re < 73500 and Fr < 1.61) or more turbulent (Re > 106200 and Fr > 3.35) conditions, flotation recovery decreased steadily. Under more quiescent hydrodynamic conditions, the lower recovery was due to the fact that the impeller was not capable of keeping particles in suspension properly whereas under more turbulent conditions the disruption of particle/bubble aggregate was intensively observed. Furthermore, amount of collision probabilities is calculated using various equations. According to study, with increasing particle size or impeller velocity, increase in probability of collision and with increasing air flow rate, decrease in probability of collision was observed.

Results are reported on the effect of impeller speed and air flow rate on flotation recovery for quartz particles of-590+212 μm. It is found that maximum flotation response was observed at impeller speed of 1100 rpm and 15 L/h air flow rate. For either more quiescent (impeller speed < 1100 rpm) or more turbulent conditions, flotation recovery decreased steadily. Furthermore, amount of attachment probabilities is calculated using suitable equation. According to study, with decreasing particle size, air flow rate and impeller speed, probability of attachment increased and with increasing contact angle, probability of attachment increased. For various air flow rates, impeller speed and particle size, collision angle has been calculated. Maximum collision angle obtained at 72.82° with 15 L/h air flow rate, particle size of 256 μm and impeller speed of 700 rpm and minimum collision angle obtained at 64° with 45 L/h air flow rate, particle size of 256 μm and impeller speed of 1300 rpm. In this study, maximum attachment angle, θ_cr, was 39.33° around 75 L/h air flow rate, particle size of 256 μ3m, contact angle of 90° and impeller speed of 1300 rpm and minimum attachment angle was 0.13° with 15 L/h air flow rate, particle size of 545 μm, contact angle of 60° and impeller speed of 1300 rpm.

New aroylhydrazone derivatives and their Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes have been synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analyses, molar conductances and magnetic measurements as well as electronic spectra, IR spectra, ¹H NMR spectra, ¹³C NMR spectra and LC mass spectra. Ni(II) complexes were found to have general compositions [ML], where L = 2, 6-dipiperidino-4-(2-hydroxybenzylidene hydrazino)-1,3,5-s-triazine; 2,6-dipiperidino-4-(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzylidene hydrazino)-1,3,5-s-triazine, while other complexes have composition [ML₂] (M = Co²⁺ or Cu²⁺). The infrared spectra indicate the coordination of imino nitrogen and phenolic oxygen atoms. Tetracoordinated structures are proposed for the Co(II) Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes on the basis of magnetic evidence and electronic spectra.

Fluorosis has become a major problem in India. The study is concerned with the potability of ground water samples in the Musiri Taluk of Tiruchirappalli District. Water quality parametric studies such as pH.Total alkalinity.Total Dissolved Solids, Total Hardness, Phosphate and Fluoride were performed for 65 water samples from the Hand pump, Bore well and open well sources. The water samples were categorized with respect to the level of fluoride content in the water samples. The calculated water quality indices (WQI) reveal the non-potability of 49% of the water samples. The dental fluorosis survey revealed that 17.6% of the children (age 7-13 years) were found to have affected by the disease. Defluoridation study using coal as an adsorbent, showed adsorption efficiency of 84% at a pH value of 8.0 using the sieve size of 75 mm for a 2.0 mg/L fluoride solution.

Kinetics of Ir(lll) catalysed oxidation of lactose by hexacyanoferrate(lll) in aqueous perchloric acid medium shows first order dependence each in Lactose and hexacyanoferrate(lll). The reaction rate decreases on increasing the concentration of hydrogen ion. The reaction follows direct proportionality with respect to [IrCl₃]. Increase in the ionic strength of the medium affects the reaction rate in a negative manner. Rate of reaction increases with increasing the chloride ion concentration. The rate of reaction is not affected by added [Fe(CN)₆₆]^4-. A probable mechanism and the rate law have been derived for the oxidation of lactose.

The geometry of the complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, thermal analysis, spectral study (IR and UV) and magnetic susceptibility measurements. Octahedral geometry is tentatively proposed for all the complexes. Antimicrobial activity of the ligand and metal complexes were screened and observed that metal complexes were found to be more active than free ligands.

M = Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) and X = Cl^-, Br^-, NO^-₃, C1O^-₄ and CH₃COO^-. Structural elucidation has been done on the basis of infrared spectra, electronic spectra, magnetic susceptibility, conductivity measurement and thermal analysis. On the basis of above observations, the ligands HAPAME/HAMAME coordinate to the metal ion in a tetradentate fashion and structure of the complexes proposed to be octahedral in nature.

The inhibition of corrosion of ZA-27 alloy in 1M hydrochloric acid and 1M sulphuric acid by synthesized mercapto oxadiazoles was studied using weight loss method. Results obtained revealed that the synthesized compounds are efficient inhibitors. Generally inhibition efficiency increases with increasing inhibitor concentration and decreasing temperature. The synergistic effect of halide ions on the inhibition of oxadiazoles was also investigated.

The kinetics of oxidation of industrially important alcohols, geraniol, 1-phenyl ethanol and benzyl alcohol by Ce(IV) in H₂SO₄ has been studied in the micellar phase using sodium lauryl sulphate in the temperature range 30-50 °C. The effect of concentrations of alcohol and Ce(IV) in H₂SO₄ ionic strength and temperature on the oxidation rate has been studied in details. Ni(II), Cu(ff) and Zn(II) ions have been used to catalyze the oxidation of the alcohol to the corresponding carbonyl compounds. The oxidation rate increases with alcohol concentration but decreases with the concentration of the oxidation reagent due to the formation of unreactive [Ce(IV)]₂ species at higher concentrations of the oxidizing reagent. The thermodynamic activation parameters have been calculated. The negative values of ΔS* indicate the reorientation of solvent molecules around the rigid activated complex formed during the course of the reaction. A suitable reactive mechanisim has been suggested for the oxidation process.

A new simple, sensitive and reproducible derivative spectrophotometric method has been developed for the estimation of rabeprazole and diclofenac in oral solid dosage form. The derivative spectra was recorded and is done by wavelength modulation with dual wavelength photometers and microprocessor controlled digital spectrophotometer, rabeprazole & diclofenac shows maximum absorption at 324 nm and 272 nm, shows linearity in the concentration of 4-16 μg/ml and 10-40 μg/ml respectively. The method was employed successfully and the results of analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies.

The compounds were screened for their antiinflammatory activity and were compared with the standard drug phenyl-butazone. Out of these compounds the most active was 2-(p-chloropheny 1 aminomethylacetyl-4'-oxo-1'-thiazolidinyl)-3-(indol-3"-yl)-6,8-dibromo quinazokin-4(3H)-one. The structures of these compounds have been confirmed by elemental and spectral analysis.

In ethnomedicinal practices the aerial parts of Tricholepis glaberrima DC (synonym: Brahmadandi) are used for treatment of various ailments especially those related to reproductive disorders. Plants from other genus are also reported to be sold under the common trade name 'Brahmadandi'. Scientific parameters are not yet available to fix the identity of true plant material and thereby to ensure its quality. The present work therefore, has been undertaken to evolve the necessary phytochemical and pharmacognostical standards of evaluation for the plant material. Various parameters like morphology, microscopy, and physicochemical constants, fluorescence behavior of the extracts and powder and phytochemical profiles of the plant material were studied and the salient diagnostic features are documented. The characteristic HPTLC finger print profile of the major chemical constituents along with their R_f values, absorption maxima and relative percentage were recorded in the crude extract of the plant material as a means of authentication.

Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn, Pb and Cd in the samples were analyzed using flame and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry after microwave digestion. The metal concentrations in samples were found to be 1076.0-2137.0,13.3-28.6, 107.7-375.6, 86.8-134.1,8.3-27.6 and 0.2-1.3 μg/g for iron, copper, manganese, zinc, lead and cadmium, respectively.

The metal complexes derived from new biologically active quinoline derivatives namely; 4-amino-5-(quinolin-8-yloxymethyl)-2,4-dihydro-[l,2,4]triazol-3-thione (L1), ben-zoic acid N'-[2-(quinolin-8-yloxy)-acetyl]-hydrazide (L2), [4-phenyl-5-(quinolin-8-yloxymethyl)-4H[1,2.4]triazol-.3-ylsulfanylj-a cetic acid ethyl ester (L3) and [2-(quinolin-8-yloxy)-acetyl]-thiourea (L4) were prepared by reacting the quinoline derivatives with nitrates of zinc(II), copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II) and iron(III) in ethanolic medium. The metal:ligand ratio was found to be 1:2 by using the standard method of complexometric titration. The Fe(III)% in its complexes was estimated using spectrophotometric method. The structure of the isolated complexes were studied on the basis of their infrared spectra, elemental analysis (C, H, N, H₂O, M%), molar conductivity, thermal analysis (DTA/TG), mossbauer, magnetic susceptibility and computer modeling of the ligands. The mossbauer spectra of the iron complexes reflect the Fe(III) high spin complexes with octahedral structure. The complexes gave higher activity towards the microorganisms under consederation at 50 and 100 ppm rather than the organic ligands.

A simple, fast, sensitive, specific, precise, accurate and rugged stability indicating reverse phase high performance liquid chromatographic method has been developed and validated for the estimation of satranidazole in bulk material and in formulations. The stability indicating capability of the method was proven by subjecting the drugs to ICH stress conditions of alkaline and acidic hydrolysis, oxidation, photolysis and thermal degradation and resolution of the degradation products formed therein. The specificity was confirmed by spiking process related impurities of satranidazole and their separation from the main peak. The separation was obtained using a mobile phase of mixture of pH 3.0 buffer and acetonitrile in the ratio 600:400 with final pH of 3.6 on a ODS column (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 μ) with UV detection at 250 nm at 1 mL/min flow rate. For stress studies, a diode array detector was used. The elution of satranidazole was at 4.77 min. The linear dynamic range was 60 mcg/mL to 240 mcg/mL for satranidazole. Percentage recoveries for satranidazole was 99.64%.
