From the prominent IR absorption peaks, the minerals are identified with the available literature. Quartz. orthoclase, kaolinite, and montmorillonite are identified by FT-IR technique. The first data set of X-band Digital Elevation Model (DEM), derived from Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), of Gujarat Earthquake affected area was processed to assess the geo-coding and height accuracy. A detailed survey of the study area was carried out using Differential-GPS systems to get accurate control points. Though, it is the first data set processed without Attitude and Orbit Determination Avionics, the geo-coding and height accuracy is good. It is observed that there is an average shift of -1.5 pixels in Latitude and 2.5 pixels in Longitude with 1.5 pixels Standard Deviation (STD). A comparison of SRTM and Differential-GPS heights indicates that there is a bias of 7.4 m with STD of 3.4 m. This is in agreement with the height errors reported by the Deutschen Zentrums fur Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) in Height Error Map (HEM) data set.

Simple Monte Carlo procedure is described for simulating the multiple scattering and absorption of electrons with a definite incident energy in the range of keV up to 20 MeV, moving perpendicular or at a definite angle. through one slab, or two adjacent slabs of uniformly-distributed material of given atomic number, density and thickness. The simulation is based on a Screened Rutherford cross section and Bethe continuous energy-loss equation. Programs were written in FORTRAN to determine : scattering, backscattering, transmission and absorption coefficients, providing the user with a graphical output of the electron trajectories. The results of several simulations are presented by using various numbers of electrons. The program is used to analyze the relation between the energy and the range of electron in the slab, the scattering, backscattering, absorption, transmission coefficients and the angular distribution. The technique has been. applied to the transport properties of the electron through body tissue, bone and water slab by dividing media into several parts of different materials. Comparisons show that the results are in good agreement with the MCNP code within the range of energy considered and with the experimental data of Linear Electron Accelerator of Imam-Reza Hospital in Mashhad, Iran.

Pure and mixed levo-tartrates of calcium and strontium have been grown by the single diffusion gel growth technique in silica hydro gel. The effects of growth parameters. such as pH of the gel solution and the type of supernatant solution. on the growth of crystals are reported. The grown crystals are characterized by the FTIR spectroscopy and thermogravimetry. Attempts are made to study the changes in the absorption bands of FTIR spectra in terms of the presence of strontium-oxygen or calcium-oxygen stretching vibrations. Thermograms clearly indicate the changes occurring due to increasing amount of calcium in the crystals. Two different states of calcium and strontium oxide are clearly visible in the thermograms of mixed crystals. The decomposition behaviors of the crystals are studied and further. the kinetic parameters for dehydration are deduced by using the Coats and Redfern relation from the pyrolysis curves of the crystals. The nature of the thermodynamic parameters suggests spontaneous type of process.

Based on the day-to-day observations of the pressure-corrected hourly neutron monitor counts, the data has been subjected to harmonic analysis to derive the amplitude and phase of diurnal anisotropic variation for the Kiel (high latitude and low cut-off rigidity station) and Haleakala (low latitude and high cut-off rigidity station) neutron monitor stations on each day for the minimum sunspot activity period and high sunspot activity period. It is observed that the daily mean intensity of Kiel and Haleakala for the year 1991 (solar maxima period) show also a high degree of correlation. Similarly a high degree of correlation is observed for year (2004) the declining phases of the present solar cycle 23. The small scattering has been observed due to differing energy dependent variations recorded at these two stations of separate cut-off rigidities.

Langmuir probe is a widely used diagnostic tool to measure the plasma parameter in a laboratory. In most cases, the plasma is in intimate contact with conducting surfaces like the walls of the confining chamber or the magnetic channels of the confining system. Observed the effect of a biased magnetic cage (anode) on probe measurements. The conducting cage functions as a large reference electrode and along with Langmuir probe, completes the electrical circuit through the plasma. The bias applied to the cage can change the plasma parameters such as plasma potential, floating potential, sheath thickness, probe current etc. All the effects can be explained with the fact that total current in the system is zero. Here, anode, electrode and magnetic cage signifies the same meaning.

Two types of the optical standards, single ion trap and optical lattice, have been achieved the accuracies close to the Cs atomic fountain standards. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) keep a central role in the international timekeeping. American Global Positioning System (GPS) is a navigation system that has proven itself to be a reliable source of positioning for both the military community and the civilian community. But, little known by many, is the fact that GPS has proven itself to be an important and valuable utility to the timekeeping community [1]. GPS is a versatile and global tool which can be used to both distribute time to an arbitrary number of users and synchronise clocks over large distances with a high degree of precision and accuracy. Similar performance can be obtained with Russian Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) [2]. It is expected in the near future satellites of a new European navigation system GALILEO might bring some important opportunities for international timekeeping. This paper after an introduction to international timekeeping focuses on the description of recent progress in time transfer techniques using GNSS satellites.

The samples had resistivity of 13.7 ohm-.cm with hole concentration 8.42 x 10<^>15/cm<^>3 at 300 K. The decay was characterized by 2 decay times. The faster decay was found to increase from 1 x 10<^>-6 s at 125 K to reach a maximum of 23 x 10<^>-6 s at 250 K and then decrease to 20 x 10<^>-6 s at 293 K. TWSTFT (Two Way Satellite Time and FrcquenC1) Transfer) is one of tile most precise and accurate techniques for comparison of tile frequency standards located at remote sites. Its history is quite long and 1 ns level of the time transfer precision was already experimentally obtained at early time of the 1970s. As it needs expensive facilities and satellite fee, and it seems too early for the performance of the frequency standards at that time, TWSTFT didn't become a popular technique for the global time and frequency transfer. And GPS common-view method has became tile main tool of the international time and frequency transfer method because of its good cost performance of user equipment in 1980s. In 1990s, due to the development of precise and accurate frequency standards, such as fountain type Cs primary standards, more accurate and precise time and frequency transfer techniques have became necessary. According to such demands, several time and frequency institutes have started to research and develop the TWSTFT system and a working group on 1WSTFT under tile CCTF was established to discuss about the technical issues and operation of the TWSTFT link. Nowadays TWSTFT is one of the main tools of the in ternational time and frequency transfer techniques for the TAI calculation.

Performes a correlative analysis to study the relationship of sunspot numbers (SSN) and tilt angle with cosmic ray intensity (CRI) observed by the neutron monitor stations having different cut-off rigidity for the period 1976 to 2005 covering solar cycles 21, 22 and 23. 11 is found that tilt angle and sunspot numbers are positively correlated with each other and have inverse correlation with cosmic ray intensity. The time-lag analysis has been performed by the method of 'mini,mizing correlation coefficient' and it is found that time-lag is larger for odd solar cycles and smaller for even solar cycles. .Also calculated 'running cross correlation coefficient' between cosmic ray intensity and tilt angle and observed that the correlation is positive during the maxima of odd cycles 21 and 23. The 22-year variational pattern is clearly apparent in the different types of analysis based on tilt angle observations; it has been noticed that the behaviour of cycle 23 in declining phase is different than of cycle 21 and 22.

Piston gauge or pressure balance is essential to pressure metrology research and as a calibration tool. Over the years, its basic performance has been improved by several orders of magnitude. However, in most cases, the instrument's operation remains tedious and labor intensive. A line of piston gauges introduced in the early 1990s integrates the electronics necessary to support the automation of piston gauge operation. These include monitoring of piston behavior and environmental conditions. Limited automated pressure control became available in the mid-1990s. Most recently, an automated mass handling accessory has been introduced, covering the full range of pressure in gauge and absolute modes. This makes fully automated operation over the complete pressure range possible. Experience shows that the benefits of automated piston gauge operation are both practical and metrological. These range from obvious gains in productivity to other types of benefits such as reduced mass wear over time and making possible new test programs. The impact of automated piston gauge operation on transfer standard characterization and calibration is examined.

Presents a detail investigation of fluctuation pattern of the target fragments emitted in the interactions in a wide range of projectile energies from 4.5 AGeV to 200 AGeV. More precisely, fluctuation of target residue is studied in the view of two-dimensional factorial moment methodology using the concept of Hurst exponent (H) to take care of anisotropy of phase space. This study shows that for low projectile energy, the fluctuation pattern is self-similar in most of the bins (scale) while self-affine in only one bin region (scale); while for the high projectile energy, the fluctuation pattern is self-affine in all the considered bin regions. Thus with increase in the projectile energy, the fluctuation pattern tends to become self-affine. The dependence is observed not only in the degree of anisotropy but also on the strength of fluctuation. The values of αq are widely different in the different bins at 200 AGeV. However at 4.5 AGeV, the change of αq from one bin to the other is not as significant as in the former case. Thus, the fluctuation of target residue is scale-dependent and the scale-dependence is more pronounced at the ultra-relativistic energy.

Frequency independent antennas had been proposed and devised for working over huge band widths. According to Rumsey [IRE National Conventional Record (pt1) p1l4 (l957)]. solely angle dependent geometries are amenable to such operation. This principle had so far been applied to metallic antennas only. Here Reports theoretical and experimental investigations on an ultra wide band log-periodic angle. dependent dielectric antenna. The antenna is of the form of two arms forming a bow tie dipole structure within which notches are cut. whose dimensions vary with logarithmic periodicity. It is found that the antenna offers ultra wide 3 : I VSWR bandwidth of about 6.48 GHz. Further. the experimentally measured radiation patterns show rather broad nature suitable for omni directional coverage. Varying the plane of polarization. it is also observed to have an almost polarization independent behavior. All these characteristics make this new antenna ideally suited for numerous emerging fields of wireless and mobile communications.

Global Positioning System (GPS) has become a key component of the world technology, and one measure of its success is that it has inspired enhancements and similar systems. GPS can therefore be considered the prototype of several existing or planned Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), with which term we also include supporting satellite-based enhancement systems. Describes flow GPS derives its timing, how GNSS systems are used for several means of precise time transfer, how carrier phase can assist time transfer, and haw GNSS systems can cooperatively create improved products. Significant benefits in terms of robustness and precision can result from combining GNSS systems. Applications which may require them are situations involving interference, limited reception as in urban canyons or indoors, or where there is limited time to acquire a signal.

The electrical conductivity of crystals is one of the most important non-equilibrium property, which shows that how a system relaxes to its equilibrium distribution. The theory of electrical conductivity has been investigated with the help of quantum dynamical approach after considering the model Hamiltonian for the problem which consists of the state of a real crystal containing phonon system, electron system, localized impurities and interactions thereof. The disorder effects include the mass and force constants changes at impurity sites. The expression for electrical conductivity has been derived with the help of Kubo formalism. It is found that electrical conductivity is not simply a function of electron energy but it depends on a large number of scattering events and on crystal characteristics and temperatures. It has been shown that the electron-phonon coupling and defects play prominent role in electron transport-theory.

A critical analysis of wave-particle duality has been presented. Although the complementarity principle holds in every situation in which non-commuting observables are involved, in the case of wave-particle duality, Bohr's extension of the principle to the classical concepts of waves and particles holds only in interference experiments because of the quantitative relationship between intrinsic path distinguishability and mutual coherence in quantum mechanics. Bohr's extension cannot therefore be given the status of a general principle. However, all experiments are quite consistent with the Einstein-de Broglie-Bohm version of waveparticle duality in which the position of the particle which is present all the time is guided by the quantum potential determined by the total wave function, as well as with the causal model for the behaviour of light in terms of a quantum field theory. Posser's interpretation photons travel as particles along the lines of energy flow which are modified by boundary conditions (as in a double-slit configuration), resulting in a redistribution corresponding exactly to interference diffraction patterns.

Cells for the realization of the triple point of gallium were prepared at the thermometry laboratory, National institute for Standards (NIS). The cells were first imported from the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), England as melting point cells according to tile requirements of the International Temperature Scale of 1990 (ITS-90) [1]. The cells were extensively studied as a melting point using the laboratory capabilities [2]. One of the two cells was then prepared as a triple point cell. The results showed that the measured gallium triple point (GaTP) is 2.1 mK higher than the melting point temperature. The expanded uncertainty of realization was 0.32 m K (k=2).

Using CCW method an attempt has been made to study the propagation of freely propagating weak hyromagnetic cylindrical shock waves taking into account constant axial magnetic field through an ideal and rotating gas at permissible shock front locations for an arbitrary varying initial density distribution of the form, say, ρ0 = ρ' = log (1 + λr), where ρ is the density at the axis of symmetry and λ is non-dimensionalyzing constant. The numerical estimate of the flow variables have been computed at only on those values of propagation distance r which are permitted by the initial entropy distribution condition. Thus the result obtained has been presented through graphs and compared with earlier work.

Investigates the energy transfer between various Fourier modes in a low-dimensional model for thermal convection. Used the formalism of mode-to-mode energy transfer rate in our calculation. The evolution equations derived using this scheme is the same as those derived using the hydro dynamical equations for thermal convection in Boussinesq fluids. Numerical and analytical studies of this model show that convective rolls appear as the Rayleigh number R is raised above its critical value Rc. Further increase of Rayleigh number generates rolls in the perpendicular directions as well, and obtained a dynamic asymmetric square pattern. This pattern is due to Hopf bifurcation. There are two sets of limit cycles corresponding to the two competing asymmetric square patterns. When the Rayleigh number is increased further, the limit cycles become unstable simultaneously, and chaotic motion sets in. The onset of chaos is via intermittent route. The trajectories wander for quite a longtime almost periodically before jumping irregularly to one of the two ghost limit cycles.

Presents theoretical investigations of the radiation properties of a 2x2 element planar array of equilateral triangular patch microstrip antenna built up on a magnetized ferrite substrate Ni1.062Co0.02Fe1.948O4 in the presence of plasma medium. The far zone EM-mode and Pª mode radiation fields are derived using vector wave function techniques and pattern multiplication approaches. The results are obtained both in plasma medium and in free space. Computation of maximum field intensity, half power beam width (HPBW), full null beam width (FNBW) and other important antenna parameters such as radiation conductance, directivity and quality factor has been made for the plasma and the free space medium. The results of this theoretical analysis suggest that due to ferrite substrate, this planar array antenna can be operated at lower frequency range and there is reduction of size of such antenna when designed on NiCoFeO4 ferrite substrate.

A simple theoretical model is developed to investigate the temperature dependence of the bulk modulus and second order elastic constants. The method is based on Tallon's model using the concept of modified Gruneisen parameters. The results obtained for a number of crystals viz., MgO, CaO and Mg2SiO4 are discussed and compared with those obtained from O.L Anderson model as well as with available experimental data. It is concluded that the Tallon's model is far better than the Anderson model for bulk modulus for all the crystals except Mg2SiO4 and the Anderson model has the better agreement for second order elastic constants except C11 of MgO.

The differential scattering cross section (DCS), Integral cross section (ICS), collision strength (Ω) and effective collision strength (γ) have been calculated. The calculated value are compared with other theoretical calculation (DWBA) and experimental data (wherever available). These cross sections are in good agreement with experimental result. More calculations are still in progress and may be seen in near future publications.

Measurements have been made on ultrasonic velocity, viscosity and density of sodium chloride, sodium formate and sodium acetate in 10, 20 and 30% of formamide-water mixtures at different molalities of salts at 303, 308 and 313 K. The derived acoustical parameters viz., adiabatic compressibility, apparent molal compressibility, apparent molal volume and the limiting apparent molal compressibility, limiting apparent molal volume as well as the constants Sk and Sv have also been calculated. The variation in these parameters with respect to the molality has been explained on the basis of ion-solvent interaction and structure making/breaking tendency of the electrolyte.

Analytical solutions of the equations of motion are obtained for velocities and mass flow rates. The effects of magnetic parameter M, Reynolds number Re, permeability parameters σ1 and σ2 and height h2 of the upper fluid on velocities and mass flow rates are studied through graphs.

Three dimensional Couette flow and heat transfer through a porous medium between two parallel infinite porous plates is considered. The stationery plate is subjected to a slightly sinusoidal surface temperature with transverse sinusoidal suction velocity while the moving plate is isothermal with uniform injection velocity. The expressions for components of skin friction and rate of heat transfer at the stationery plate and recovery factor at the insulated plate are obtained. These parameters are plotted against Reynolds numbers for various values of other parameters and discussed in detail.

The calibration of Srtip-Lamp or an Optical-Pyrometer in two sets observations expected a problem towards consistency of measurements ill a laboratory as compared to a reference laboratory & in definition of suitable reference standards. The degree of equivalence (Dij) between Key-Comparison Reference Value (KCRV) & a Laboratory measurement or measurements of two laboratories helped to express inter-changeability of laboratory standards or compatibility/consistency of measurement standards. To relate two independent core-functions ill two sets of data of a single-(fixed-)valued parameter on the first hand, helped to establish Traceability of measurements with analysis of associated uncertainty. On the other hand, expression of standards with its deviations and associated uncertainties led to expression of mutual confidence of two involved laboratories. Consistency could be defined as appropriate ill measurement when its Systematic and random-uncertainty components were of equal order of magnitude in djj and hjj. Reference Standard defined as appropriate and of good quality if systematic-type uncertainty of long-term drifts were less than short-term drifts or random-type uncertainty in a calibratian-process. Drifts in calibration could be minimized during repeated electrical heating stability anneals to Strip-Lamps, etc. In connection with standards, traceability of jth laboratory could be treated as appropriate, if uncertainty, uj was less than unceratainty, μi of ith laboratory, or in other words, when uncertainty on input-side (uci), of a measurement was less than uncertainty on out-put side (uco).

Analyzeds the pressure dependence of compressional behaviour of nanotube bundle and individual tube within the bundle of single wall car nanotube. For thts purpose useses usual Tait's Equation of State to predict the change in unit cell volume as a function of pressure. Also predictes the variation of isotherma bulk modulus and specific heat with pressure for nanotube. The results achieved from usual Tait's Equation of State are found in good agreement with the available experimental data. It is concluded that the individual carbon nanotube is less compressible than the bundle of carbon nanotube.

Einstein's theory of gravitation that governs the geometry of space-time, coupled with spectacular advance in cosmological observations, promises to deliver a 'standard model' of cosmology in the near future. However, local geometry of space constrains, but does not dictate the topology of the cosmos. Hence, cosmic topology has remained an enigmatic aspect of the `standarc model' of cosmology. Recent advance in the quantity and quality of observations has brought this issue within the realm of observational query. The breakdown of statistical homogeneity and isotropy of cosmic perturbations is a generic consequence of non trivial cosmic topology arising from to the imposed 'crystallographic' periodicity on the eigenstates of the Laplacian. The sky maps of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy and polarization are the most promising observations that could carry signatures of a violation of statistical isotropy and homogeneity. Hence, a measurable spectroscopy of cosmic topology is made possible using the Bipolar power spectrum (BiPS) of the temperature and polarization that quantifies violation of statistical isotropy.
