Investigation was undertaken to find out the optimum concentration of zinc and boron, which are deficient in Tarai soils for enhancing the quality and quantity of the spikes. The plants were treated with varied doses of 0.0-0.3% zinc sulphate and 0.0-1.0% boric acid at 3 and 6 leaf-pair stage and 70 and 140 days after planting in gladiolus and tuberose, respectively. In gladiolus, the spray of 0.4% boric acid at two stages i.e. at 3 and 6 leaf-pair stage was better for quality produce of gladiolus and tuberose, foliar application of boric acid (0.2%) and zinc sulphate (0.2%) twice at 70 and 140 days after planting was beneficial for quality flower production under Tarai conditions.

Hypocotyl, shoot apex and leaf explants from fifteen days old seedling of cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.) were grown on MS medium supplemented with BAP, Kinetin, NAA, 2,4-D and IAA alone or in combination. Callusing response was better in shoot apex explant on medium supplemented with BAP, BAP+IAA and BAP+NAA. Callus induced from shoot apex explant was compact and greenish, remained fresh for longer time and retained the potency through subculture. Leaf explant on incubation at various levels of cytokinins/auxins produced roots or produced semi-friable, light green callus at low frequency. Maximum callusing response with hypocotyl was observed on medium with 1.0 mg l-1 2,4-D and it was white and friable and in subculture showed some globular embryo like structure at low frequency.

Cultivated varieties of sugarcane (Saccharum sp. Hybrid, CoSe 92423, CoPant 84212 and CoLk 9411) were investigated for identification of biochemical markers to characterize chlorosis utilizing chlorotic and normal green leaves. Chlorotic leaves contained lower concentration of chlorophyll a, b, soluble protein and biologically active iron. Specific activity of catalase and peroxidase was found to be very low, while, proline content was significantly high in chlorotic leaves. Variety CoPant 84212 exhibited highest content of proline in chlorotic leaves. Distinct variation was also observed in catalase and peroxidase isozyme pattern of chlorotic leaves. Chlorotic leaves exhibited marked accumulation of a 97 kDa protein. Lower activity of catalase and peroxidase enzymes and marked variation in isozyme pattern of catalase and peroxidase confirmed that chlorosis/yellowing in sugarcane fields is due to induced iron deficiency possibly resulting from inactivation of iron in metabolically active plant tissue. These parameters can be used as biological markers for diagnosis of chlorosis in sugarcane fields.

Medicinal plants as a group comprise approximately 8000 species and account for around 50% of all the higher flowering plant species of India. India possesses almost 8% of the estimated biodiversity of the world with around 0.126% million species. In India, Madhya Pradesh & Chattisgarh are known to harbour a rich wealth of medicinal plants. These two states are pool of dozens of phannaceutically important plants. Medicinal activity of few such plants has already been reported but a good number of plants still used by local folklore are yet to be explored. A detailed survey was carried out by the authors to collect information on both reported and unreported medicinal plants of this region. Article represents statistical data of the medicinal plants of this region.

Describes the indigenous knowledge of local communities on the traditional healthcare system in district Porbandar. A total of about 573 individuals from 42 villages across district Porbandar were interviewed. Of the total interviewed persons, 41% claimed to have the ethnoveterinary knowledge. Respondents listed a total of 74 plant species that are used for treating ailments in the animals. Leaves, seeds, fruits and in some cases whole plant were used for medicinal purposes. The plant parts are fed to sick animal for treating rheumatism, fever, bloat, foot and mouth diseases, constipation, stomach pain, mastitis, swellings, sprains, gastric problems and to expel the placenta after delivery in cattle. The emphasis has been laid on scientific validation of medicinal properties of the plants used in traditional medication system, and also to recognize and reward the traditional wisdom of the local communities.

Evaluation and compatibility of fungicides, neem products and biocontrol agents against Fusarium root rot of soybean caused by Fusarium solani f. sp. glycines was conducted. Out of the six fungicides tested, Mancozeb at all concentration (0.05, 0.1, 0.15%) was most effective in reducing the mycelial growth followed by Carbendazim. Mancozeb was also found compatible with T. haruanum and T. viride at 0.05 and 0.1% concentration. Copper oxychloride was next compatible fungicide to it, whereas Carbendazim proved to be the least compatible. In comparative efficacy studies between two antagonists T. viride was most antagonists to Fusarium solani f. sp. glycines. Neemgold (commercial product) was most effective in reducing the mycelial growth of Fusarium solani f. sp. glycines and also found compatible with T. harzianum and T. viride.

Wheat genotypes Kalyansona and C-306 grown in ceramic pots were sprayed with three levels of cytokinin (1.0, 5.0 and 10.0 mg per litre) at 25 and 45 days after sowing. Results showed that cytokinin application increased the rate of transpiration and leaf water potential in both the genotypes at boot as well as anthesis stages. Cytokinin induced reduction in leaf osmotic potential and increase in leaf turgor potential were also recorded at both the stages. Proline, soluble sugars, free amino acids and protein contents were increased by cytokinin treatment. Genotypic variations in accumulation of these metabolites were observed. A significant increase in test weight, grain number and yield on account of cytokinin has also been recorded in both the genotypes. However, at higher concentration of cytokinin, the enhancement were found non significant. The transpiration, water relation parameters and osmolytes were found significantly correlated with cytokinin induced grain yield of wheat.

The effect of triadimefon on regeneration of shoot clusters of gladiolus was evaluated both in agar-solidified and membrane-raft supported liquid culture systems. The kinetics of in vitro shoot multiplication was also elucidated using the Poisson regression model. Membrane-raft culture exhibited early and enhanced multiplication of shoots over the agar-solidified culture. Triadimefon at 1.0 mg/l concentration increased the number of shoots in both the culture types. A log-linear model was adjusted for the shoot multiplication data considering Poisson distribution. The adjusted Poisson regression model showed a good fit with the observed data. The interpretation of first and second derivatives indicated the speed of multiplication and the time where acceleration rate begins to decline. The curve patterns suggested that triadimefon enhanced the speed of multiplication compared to control irrespective of culture types. Acceleration trend remains unaffected with triadimefon. The study on the shoot multiplication along with its kinetics as influenced by triadimefon could help to establish the most efficient micropropagation system in gladiolus.

Examine the effect of cycloheximide (CHI), a protein synthesis inhibitor and cytokinins on the senescence and longevity of detached flowers of Iris germanica. Mature buds at pencil stage were transferred to 10 ml glass vials containing 0.5 mM of each of Kinetin, Benzylamino purine (BAP) and Diphenyl urea (DPU) besides distilled water which served as control has been carried out. Buds were directly placed in these solutions and also after pulse treatment with CHI (0.1 mM, 1 hr 21°C). Kinetin, BAP and DPU markedly delayed senescence and prolonged longevity in CHI pulse treated flowers. Reveals that pulse treatment of buds with CHI followed by transfer to BAP was the most effective treatment in delaying senescence, maintaining flower quality and thereby prolonging longevity of detached flowers of Iris gerinanica. In this treatment lesser ion leakage, besides higher fresh mass and water content was recorded in flowers suggesting maintenance of membrane integrity. This treatment also maintains the respiratory pool of sugars in the perianth tissues, besides being effective in slowing down protein degradation with flower opening and senescence.

Sporulation and viability of spores of the pathogen Fusarium udum reduced significantly in interaction zone as compared to the center of the Fusarium colony in dual culture studies with antagonistic organisms. Trichoderma viride (22.05%) and T. harzianum (35.50%) reduce the production of Fusarium spores to a considerable extent, but sporulation was not affected by-Bacillus subtilis (63.67%). Minimum spore germination was recorded in culture interacting with T. viride (10.19%), followed by Pseudomonas fluorescens (25.67%) and T. harzianum (29.38%). Seed treatment with antagonists reduced the wilt incidence to a considerable extent by suppressing F. udum. Among the antagonists tested T. viride (26.67%), T. harzianum (30.00%) and P. fluorescens (36.67%) were effective as seed dresses in controlling the incidence of pigeonpea wilt.

2-3 week old seedlings of Tectona grandis, Ailanthus triphysa, Albizia falcataria, Termlnalia paniculata, Acacia mangium and Artocarpus hirsuta were raised using 13 different potting media containing waste viz., municipal garbage and coir dust. Seedlings when planted in the standard media (soil : sand : cow dung) recorded 100 per cent success with regard to both initial establishment after one week of planting and final survival after eight months. Generally, mortality was more when fresh garbage and coir dust alone were used as a planting medium. With regard to growth and vigour in terms of shoot growth parameters and other physiological attributes, potting mixtures of soil and cow dung with 2-4 weeks decomposed garbage were found to be most promising. Growth and vigour was generally found to be less when seedlings were grown in pure coir dust and fresh garbage. The relative growth rate and other physiological attributes like leaf area, specific leaf area, specific leaf weight etc, were also found to be less for this treatment. In most of the species, chlorophyll content was not found to be affected significantly by any of the treatments. Soil when mixed with decomposed garbage was found to contain high content of nutrients particularly nitrogen, unlike soil mixed with coir dust. Information generated from this study could solve the problem of waste disposal to a certain extent and can also reduce the cost of production of seedlings in the nursery.

Attempt was made to study the relationship of various.physiological parameters of rice (plant height, tiller number, leaf number, root and shoot biomass) with methane flux from different rice agroecosystems (irrigated and rainfed). Higher seasonal integrated methane flux was recorded during monsoon season (Mahsuri 15.03 g m-2 and Gopinath 13.45 g m-2) compared to winter season (Joymoti 8.10 g m-2 and KL boro-1 10.18 g m-2). Two emission peaks were recorded one at maximum tillering stage and other at the reproductive stage of the crop irrespective of the ecological situation and variety. It was observed that seasonal methane emission had a positive relationship with shoot biomass. Cultivar differences were also pronounced in the rate of methane emission in both the ecosystems; cultivars with higher biomass were found to emit more methane.

Shrimp is the world's most important commodity accounting for about 19 percent of international seafood trade in value terms. In India's export trade shrimp contributed about 29 percent in quantity and 67 percent in value in the year 2002-2003. The study was an attempt to critically examine compound growth rate and competitiveness of Indian shrimp in international seafood market based on the data collected from FAO fisheries statistics database, MPEDA statistics and Globe fish commodity update. The results indicated that India has been quite competitive in the shrimp trade, although there is a decline in the competitiveness of Indian shrimp in recent years. On the other hand, Thailand has emerged as a strong contender recording an increased competitiveness over the years. Certain policy measures are suggested to sustain the competitiveness of Indian shrimp exports in international market.

Pyrethrum plants have been introduced for flowering under subtropical climate of north Indian plains at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Selections were tested over four generations to identify lines that stably produced flowers when sown in October. Seeds of the selected plants germinated well at 25°C within 10-15 days. Per cent of flowering plants, number of flowers per plant, flower yield and pyrethrins yield improved significantly in the plants raised from seeds of selected plants. Pyrethrins yield was positively associated with flower yield, pyrethrins content and number of flowers per plant. Five selections (2, 5, 6,19, 20) have been identified for further varietal development studies on the basis of above average performance in the final (fourth) year of study.

Potatoes stored at 10-12°C and 85-95% RH in commercial cold stores at five cities in northern and central India were analysed periodically for processing quality and Isopropyl N-(3-chlorophenyl) carbamate (CIPC) residue levels. Tubers stored at 10-12°C produced chips of acceptable colour as compared to dark coloured, unacceptable chips produced by tubers stored at 2-4°C. The lighter chip colour could be related to lower level of reducing sugars. Cultivar Kufri Bahar accumulated excessive reducing sugars resulting in dark colour chips. Tubers of cultivars Kufri Jyoti and Kufri Lauvkar, produced and stored at Indore and Ujjain respectively were found to be suitable for processing. CIPC residue levels varied considerably and the maximum CIPC residue level observed in peel ranged from 0.2 to 16.1 mg/kg fw and in unpeeled tubers, it ranged from 0.03 to 2.7 mg/kg fw. This is within the acceptable limit of 30 mg/kg tuber.

Attempt was made to use distillery effluent both as a source of irrigation and nutrients for sunflower. effluent at higher concentration is detrimental to crop growth and yield irrespective of the quantity of additional fertilizer used. Dilution of effluent upto 50% along with the fertilizer application of 50% P2O5 + 25% N and K, recorded significantly higher seed yield, oil content, nitrate reductase activity, total chlorophyll content and plant height. Irrigation with effluent alone at lower concentration remains ineffective in increasing the yield and beyond 50 percent was harmful to the crop. Distillery effluent alone will not supplement the nutrients for increasing sunflower yield. However, it could reduce the fertilizer requirement and production cost.

In order to increase calcium content of the flesh which, in turn, helps to retain firmness of the fruits, the mature fruits of Asian Pear cv. 'Patharnakh' (Pyrus pyrifolia (Burm) Nakai)) were dipped in aqueous calcium solutions, prepared from technical grade 77-80% flakes of CaCl2 and Ca(NO3)2, at concentration of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 per cent. Fruits were then air dried, filled in crates and stored upto 35 days at ambient conditions 20°-33°C, 54-87% RH. Post-harvest dip in 4 per cent CaCl2 resulted in 59.34 per cent increase in calcium content of the peel and 32.29 per cent of the flesh, over the untreated fruits, after 15 days of storage. The increase was only 50.63 and 21.98 per cent in peel and flesh, respectively, with postharvest dip of 2 per cent CaCl2, followed by 42.52 and 18.13 per cent, respectively, with 4 per cent Ca(NO3)2. The Ca content of the core tissues did not respond to any treatment. The post-harvest dips in 2 and 4 per cent CaCl2 and 4 per cent Ca(NO3)2 solutions, respectively resulted in 23.33, 18.87 and 11.60 per cent increase in fruit firmness over the untreated fruits after two weeks of ambient storage. Even upto 35 days of storage, the Ca dips were effective in retaining firmness of 'Patharnakh' fruit and the losses due to shrivelling, browning and rotting were minimized. The penetration of applied 45Ca was higher at stem-end, followed by calyx-end and the least at middle of the fruit. Most of the 45Ca was found to be located 0-10 mm deep in the cortex.

To test the effectiveness of different doses of NAA in enhancing yield and fruit quality of two cultivars (Bullet and Sungrow Fl 86235) of chilli (Capsicum annum L.), four concentration of NAA, viz. 0, 10, 20, 40, 80 ppm were sprayed on plants at 30 DAT, followed by two additional treatments of NAA at 30 day intervals. Treatment with 20 ppm NAA produced the highest fruit yield/plant. The quality components like carbohydrate, ascorbic acid and capsaicin contents were enhanced mostly with 20 ppm NAA followed by 40 ppm NAA treatment. At higher concentration, i.e. at 80 ppm NAA chilli fruit showed lower contents of carbohydrate, ascorbic acid and capsaicin along with lower fruit yield/plant than control. Treatment with 10 ppm NAA did not affect either the fruit yield or the quality. The NAA induced branching initiation might be the cause for enhancement fruit yield of chilli. Quality characters like ascorbic acid content totally depend upon the carbohydrate level, which in turn depend on chlorophyll content. NAA increased the green pigment of fruit and leaves. Cell elongation by NAA along with enlargement of vacuole (the site of capsaicin synthesis) possibly increased the capsaicin content. At higher concentration, NAA induced eth-ylene synthesis that reduced fruit quality and yield.

In an attempt to improve the commercial quality of the fruit, the effects of some PGRs viz. IAA (indole-3-acetic acid), kinetin (6-furfurylamino-purene) and smoke (as ethylene treatment) in varying concentrations and combinations, as spray and dip, were studied during fruit ripening and senescence of peach. Rapid increase in total sugar and soluble protein, improved sugar acid ratio, promotion and enhancement of ripening and delay of senescence as well were some of the significant effects observed. Alteration in the activity and isozyme banding patterns of alcohol: NAD oxidoreductase and 2-oxo-acid carboxylase, along with changes in free amino acid composition suggested promising effects of the treatments in monitoring the ripening physiology and senescence of the fruit.

The isolate was sub-cultured in Yeast Extract Mannitol Broth (YEM), that was supplemented with optimum concentration of MgSO4. 7 H2O, three plant growth hormones (IAA, GA3 and kinetin) and their different combinations. In free-living cultures, the growth behaviour, activities of nitrate reductase (NR), nitrite reductase (NiR), nitrogenase (N2-ase) and soluble protein were found to increase with the application of MgSO4.7 H2O2 hormones and their various combinations.

The water status of plants improved under elevated CO2 concentration possibly by increasing water and osmotic potential due to increase in nonstructural carbohydrates, free amino acids and free fatty acids.

Effects of benzyladenine (BA) and abscisic acid (ABA) were studied on the regulation of banana fruit ripening in relation to the activities of antioxidative enzymes. Mature green fruits of banana (Pacha vazhai) were infiltrated with 100 ppm ABA or 10 ppm BA. Activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POX), catalase (CAT) and glutathione reductase (GR) were studied in peel and pulp of treated and untreated fruits till 12th day (overripe stage in control). Both SOD and GR activities were higher when fruits attained half ripe stage and then declined gradually as ripening progressed. The activity of CAT continued to increase till the fruits were overripe, whereas POX enzyme showed decrease in activity in control and in the BA treated fruits at their half ripe stage. Abscisic acid (ABA) preponed the peak activity of SOD and GR by three days, while it induced the activities of CAT and POX. On the contrary BA treatment reduced the activities of all antioxidative enzymes and postponed the peak activities of SOD and GR by three days.

The science of orthopaedics was found to be well developed and their medicinal preparation techniques are mostly accompanied by enchanting traditional mantra.

Field investigation was undertaken to evaluate the interactive effects of sulphur (0 and 30 kg S ha-1) and nitrogen (0 and 60 kg N ha-1) on growth, water relations, photosynthetic efficiency and nitrogen metabolism of Indian mustard (Brassica juncea Czern & Coss) grown under five irrigation levels (M1,to M5) created through single line source sprinkler system adopting split-split plot design. Nitrogen application, either alone or in combination with sulphur significantly increased seed yield and dry matter production under all irrigation levels. Response to added fertilizer-N was observed even at low level of soil moisture (M4 level with 147 mm irrigation water). S application only marginally enhanced plant growth and seed yield. Improvement in growth and seed yield might be due to an increase in net photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, nitrate reductase activity and leaf soluble protein content. It is concluded that benefits of nitrogen application on seed yield of mustard can be obtained even at low levels of moisture availability and further augmented by sulphur fertilization as these two nutrients have additive and synergistic effect on crop performance, photosynthetic parameters and nitrogen metabolism. The results also indicate that nutritional status of plants is equally important as plant water status for improvement of crop growth and yield under low moisture conditions.

The effect of presoaking treatment of gibberellic acid (GA3) and foliar spray of alar (succinic acid 2, 2-dimethyl hydrazide ) singly and in combination on growth, yield and protein content of pea (cv. Azad P-l) was examined. G A, irrespective of concentrations was most effective in promoting shoot growth, while alar at all concentrations reduced shoot growth. Seed index, yield and protein contents increased upto 250 μ g/ml of GA3. Chlorophyll content decreased with an increase in the concentration of GA3. Alar upto 1000 μ g/ml increased chlorophyll content and seed index, while highest protein content was recorded at 250 μ g/ml. Yield was increased upto 500 μ g/ml of alar. Application of GA3 250 + alar 500 μ g/ml was most effective in promoting seed index and yield while the combination of GA3 250 + alar 100 μg/ml was most effective in promoting protein content.

Shoot tips of two castor (Ricinus communis L.) cvs. Kranthi and GCH-4 were cultured to quantify the orthodihydroxy (OD) phenol content of explant tissues and to regenerate multiple shoots in vitro. The cultures turned green and attained large size by 28 days after inoculation (DAI). The phenol content and plantlets produced varied with the genotype and plant growth regulators used. Kranthi recorded lowest OD phenol content (0.034 mg/g FW) and maximum number of shoots (5.7) on MS + BA 5.0 mg/l. GCH 4 recorded lower OD phenol content (0.041 mg/g FW) and maximum number of shoots (4.2) on MS + BA 4.0 mg/1. Incorporation of NAA 1-10.0 mg/l along with BA 5.0 mg/l increased the phenol content to 0.059-0.064 mg/g FW.

Treatment of Amaranthus lividus L. (a tropical leaf crop) seedlings separately with NaCl (50, 100 & 150 mM) and heat shock for different durations (45°C for 4, 8 & 12 hours) during early germination induced oxidative stress and exhibited coinducibility of some stress proteins. Exposure of Amaranthus seeds to elevated temperature and NaCl salinity caused significant accumulation of reactive oxygen species such as superoxide radicals, hydrogen peroxide and TBARS contents with a reduction of membrane protein thiol level. Both forms of abiotic stress were related to significant reduction of antioxidative efficiency (viz. catalase, peroxidase, superoxide dismutase) and total thiol content. A comparative study of qualitative protein profiles of salinity stressed and heat shock raised seedlings by 8 to 15% gradient SDS-PAGE exhibited, expression of some similar polypeptides having molecular masses 90 and 110 kDa. Both forms of abiotic stress also showed coinducibility of some over expressed proteins. The results clearly suggest that heat and salinity imposed a similar kind of oxidative stress, which might induce the expression of common set of stress proteins.

Efficacy of five nitrification inhibitors [neem cake, thiosulphate, coated Ca-carbide, neem oil coated urea and dicyandiamide (DCD)] in reducing nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4) emissions from soil in rice-wheat system was tested in field. Closed chamber technique was used for the collection of gas samples, which were analyzed using gas chromatography. The emission of N2O-N from rice-wheat system (including the fallow period) varied between 1.15 kg ha-1 in the urea plus thiosulphate treatment to 1.60 kg ha-1 with urea application. Application of nitrification inhibitors reduced N2O-N emission to the extent of 14 to 28%. Development of pollinium has been studied in Cymbidium aloifolium (L.) Sw. (tribe Cymbidieae) and Smitinandia micrantha (Lindl.) Holtt. (tribe Vandeae) of the family Orchidaceae. The anther primordium develops two lobes oriented towards the labellum. Each lobe has a group of archesporial cells, which divide mitotically so as to form a spherical mass of sporogenous cells, in which there is differentiation of a dorsiventral plate of elongated sterile cells. In C. aloifolium, the sterile plate extends into about three-fourths of the fertile tissue, whereas in S. micrantha it is complete but asymmetrically oriented. Synchronous meiosis in the microsporocytes is followed by simultaneous cytokinesis so as to form microspore tetrads which organize into pollinia. Centripetal disintegration of the sterile plate during development of the male gametophyte forms two perforate (hollow) pollinia in C. aloifolium, but four unequal pollinia in S. micrantha. The anther wall is composed of an epidermis, an endothecium, two to three middle layers and the tapetum. The tapetum disorganizes during development of the male gametophyte, while the endothecium and adjacent middle layers develop fibrous thickenings.

Explants cultured on MS basal medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/l BA + 0.25 mg/l IAA showed highest rate of shoot multiplication. In vitro shootlets were rooted on to the half-strength MS basal media supplemented with 1.0 mg/l IBA or IAA. Rooting was better in IBA supplemented medium than IAA. Rooted shoots were transplanted in the greenhouse for hardening and their survival was 80% in the field condition.

Anthurium is one of the most important cut flowers in the international flower trade. Three varieties of antnurium viz. Liver Red (LR), Ceylon Red (CR) and Kalympong Orange (KO) were sprayed with three growth regulators, gibberellic acid (GA), tri-iodo benzoic acid (TIBA) and kinetin (Kn) at different concentrations. GA treated at 500 ppm concentration showed maximum plant height and plant spread in all the varieties. Minimum height was shown by TIBA and minimum plant spread by kinetin. GA at 300 and 500 ppm concentration produced maximum number of leaves/spadices in CR and TIBA at 500 ppm recorded minimum number of leaves/spadices per year. GA sprayed at 500 ppm produced maximum length of spadix and largest spathe in LR and KO, respectively and minimum with TIBA. Kn at 500 ppm recorded maxinum longevity of spadix. The growth regulators had no effect on spathe color, texture of spadix and inclination of candle. GA at 500 ppm in KO variety contained highest chlorophyll and protein contents. GA at 300 ppm in LR variety recorded the highest carotenoid content. Highest phenol content was observed in KO variety treated with 500 ppm Kn. Application of GA at 500 ppm was found to be the best treatment for making profit in all the three varieties.

Effect of various plant growth regulators on organogenesis from shoot tip with cotyledon explants of Sesamum indicum L. VRI1 was investigated. Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 0.5-10 mg/l 6-benzyl amino purine (BAP), 0.5-2.5 mg/l kinetin (kin) and 0.5-5.0 mg/l adinine di-sulphate (ADS) were tested. Multiple shoots initiated from 10th day onwards. High frequency of multiple shoots were obtained after 8th week in culture. The in vitro shoots were transferred to rooting media [MS with 0.5-5.0 mg/l indole acetic acid (IAA)] for root initiation and transferred to soil for hardening.
