Thermophilic fungi are inhabitant of soil along with other habitats. Howerver, mine sites being diverse habitats were unexplored for the occurrence of these fungi. Manganese and coal mine soils habitats from Vidarbha region of Maharashtra state in India were selected as the study sites and thermophilic fungi were isolated at specific time intervals using using nutrient media as source of nutrition. It was found that Emericella nidulans and Aspergillus fumigatus were present in all isolations made from the selected soils. Humicola grisea, Myriococcum albomyces and Chaetomium thermophile var. dissitum and Malbranchea pulchella were isolated from the coal mine soil samples. Aspergillus fumigatus occurred most of the times during isolation. While, from manganese mine soil 10 fungi were isolated. Rhizopus microsporus was reported several times, while Aspergillus fumigatus, Emericella nidulans, Humicola insolens, Thermomyces lanuginosus and Sporotrichum thermophile were isolated in 4 out of 6 isolations.

Aims evaluating the in-vitro antimicrobial activity of different leaf extracts of Artemisia nilagirica leaves. Nine different bacterial isolates comprising of both Gram negative and Gram-positive organisms and four different fungal strains were used. The crude leaf extracts (petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, ethyl acetate methanol and hot water) of Artemisia ni/agirica exhibited varying degrees of antibacterial activity against the tested strains. The extracts were found to be more active against S.pyogenes while they failed to inhibit Ășthe growth of E. coli and K.pneumoniae. The extracts showed effective antifungal activity against A. alternate and Mucor sp. and they were found to be inactive against A. fumigatus.

A comparison of past vegetation with present vegetation and an insight into their ecological status helps in identifying invasive species. About 25 invasive species were identified which are rapidly becoming naturalized in the flood plains. Changes due to biotic factors are found responsible in the growing number of invasive plants which belong to the ruderal category and have resulted in the abolition of climax species like Tamarix dioica which was quite abundant earlier. These invasive species include Argemon maxicana, Calotropis procera, Cannabis sativa, Datura stromonium, Parthmium hysterophorus, Pluchea lanceolata, Tribulus terrestris, Xanthium strumarium etc.

The succession of cyanobacteria was studied in 'Usar' soils, located in Varanasi District of Uttar Pradesh. Several cyanobacterial species were identified growing on such soil surfaces viz; Microcoleus species, Calothrix brevissima, Scytonema species, Nostoc punctiforme, Anabaena orientalis, Lyngbya species, Nostoc calcicola, N. muscorum, N. commune, Aulosira fertilissima, Tolypothrix species, Phormidium species, Plectonema species and Oscillatoria species. The lists of cyanobacteria are according to their successional appearance on the soils. In that, both heterocystous and non-heterocystous filamentous cyanobacterial forms were observed. Nostoc calcicola was found to be dominant species and change in soil properties has been found after the growth of cyanobacterial population.

In ethnomedicinal practice, the traditional healers use Cissampelos pareira L. (known as 'Laghupatha', 'Madrachi' and several other names) in treatment of various ailments, especially in dysentery, diarrhoea, cough, urinary troubles, skin disorders and snake bite. The crude drug is available in the form of dried and cut pieces in the market where it is difficult to identify the plant material on basis of taxonomic features. Microscopic evaluation is an indispensable tool for identification of medicinal herb and is one of the essential parameters in modern monographic studies. In this regard, the important microscopic characters of the various parts, viz. leaf, petiole, stem and root, have been documented. The leaf architectural studies have been carried out for the correct authentication of leaf drug. Therefore some diagnostic features have been evolved to identify crude drug.

Berberine in whole plant of Argemone mexicana Linn. (Papaveraceae) was quantified using High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and High performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) at 266 nm and 366 nm respectively. UV detection was used in both analytical methods to examine the presence and quantity of berberine. The assays provided a good accuracy, repeatability and reproducibility for the quantitative analysis of berberine. The results obtained in both analytical methods did not show any - 91 - significant overall difference although a trend to slightly lower range could be found for the HPTLC method. Berberine content in Argemone mexicana estimated by HPLC and HPTLC was found to contain 2.15 and 2.1 l%w/w respectively. Berberine content in Argemone mexicana was similar to that found in Berberis aristata, Berberis asiatica and Berberis lycium and therefore, has potential use as a substitute and alternative source of berberine for pharmacological activities.

Preliminary phytochemical analysis of dry leaves of Stevia rebaudiana collected from three distinct regions, were carried out for detection of nine secondary metabolites viz, alkaloid, cardiac glycoside, flavonoid, lignins, saponins, steroids, triterpenoids, phenolics and tannins. Mineral analysis of three genotypes were carried out for nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and protein content was also determined from replicated samples. Intensity of alkaloid was detected to be high in both extracts, where as low intensity was found for phenolics, triterpenoids, steroids. High intensity of tannin was detected in methanol extract and low in hot water. Macronutrient viz, nitrogen (6.50 - 7.48%), phosphorus (0.22 - 0.41%), and potassium (6.16 - 7.61%) were recorded in the leaves of Stevia. Significant difference was found for mineral contents of three genotypes. Stevioside content was recorded in range 6.41 - 7.47 mg/100 g in Stevia leaves.

In addition, various host species for Dendrophthoe have been recorded from Bay Islands, for the first time. These are: Citrus reticulata Blanco (Rutaceae), Grewia calophylla Kurz. (Tiliaceae), Horsfieldia glabra (Blume) Warb. (Myristicaceae), Psidium guajava L. (Myrtaceae).

In vitro plant regeneration through establishment through organogenic callus and embryogenic callus was carried out for Heleotropium indicum, L., using nodal segments shoot apices, petioles and leaf discs respectively. Maximum potentiality of organogenic callus was established on nodal segments and corresponding media composition was MS basal fortified with 2.0 mg/1 BA, 1.0 mg/1 kinetin and 0.5 mg/1 NAA, followed by 2.0 mg/1 kinetin and 1.0 mg/1 IBA. Total 10 media compositions were tried. Nodal segments showed better potency for - 90 - morphogenetic callus than other explants, while leaf discs performed better towards the induction of embryogenic callus. MS basal supplemented with 2.0 mg/12,4-D, 0.5 mg/1 BA and 0.5 mg/1 GA3 supported better proliferation of embryogenic callus. Rooting was achieved in MS basal half strength plus 1.0 mg/1 IBA and 0.2 g/1 activated charcoal. Once the root system was fully developed, the regenerated plantlets were potted in a mixture of sandy soil and FYM (1 : 1), afterwards hardened in the experimental field.

The paper deals with detailed investigation of leaf of Cadaba fruticosa (L.) Druce, including it's morphological, anatomical and powder analysis characters. Stomata are on adaxial and abaxial surfaces, anisocytic, on abaxial side prominent striations are present. Four types of trichomes have been noted on abaxial side viz., uniseriate cylindrical, uniseriate capitate, uniseriate vesicular capitate, uniseriate peltate; abaxial side only uniseriate cylindrical trichomes ate noted. Petiole is circular to elongated with parenchymatous cortex and central vascular bundle is enclosed by radially arranged protoxylem elements with prominent medullary rays. In T.S. midrib is flat in shape, lower epidermis having cuticle with papillate projections. Powder microscopy revealed fragments of epidermis, mesophyll, trichomes and tracheary elements.

A field experiment was conducted during three consecutive years viz, 2011,2012 and 2013 to study fungicidal effect of leaf extract of Adenocalymma alliaceum on powdery mildew of Cucurbita maxima. After survey leaf samples of Cucurbita maxima infected with powdery mildew were collected and spores of pathogen were isolated. These spores were raised in glass house on Cucurbita maxima plants in pots and identified as spores of Sphaerotheca fuliginea race-3 by using - 89 - anamorph characters. In vitro trials were made to screen the effect of leaf extract of Adenocalymma alliaceum on inhibition and reciprocal germination of spores of Sphaerotheca fuliginea after treating at different temperatures and duration of days. The observation reveals that in vivo foliar spray of fresh leaf extract of Adenocalymma alliaceum + distilled water with 1 : 1 dilution at 30°C in 20 days duration have promising effect to minimize the appearance of leaf spots up to 0.66 ± 0.19 level in Comparision to control where it spreads up to 78.88 ± 1.44. The present investigation concludes that leaf extract of Adenocalymma alliaceum has competent fungicidal property and has potential to manage the spreading of powdery mildew disease in Cucurbita maxima.

Leaf essential oil of Piper betle variety bangladesi and deswari, obtained by steam distillation were assigned for their antimicrobial potential against a set of pathogenic microbes. Oil from the leaves of Piper betle variety bangladesi and deswari was found active against the selected strains of bacteria and fungi. GC-GC MS analysis of the Piper betle variety bangladesi and deswari oil resulted in the identification of twenty five and thirty five compounds representing 85.41% & 86.11% respectively. Major components identified (eugenol, α selinene, α farnesene, β selinene, methyl eugenol, germacerene D) were same in both the oils beside safrole which was not found in the leaf oil of Piper betle variety bangladesi. The two essential oils showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Klebsiella pneumoniae and antifungal against Candida albicans, Candida rugosa, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus.

Changes in activities of antioxidative and carbon metabolizing enzymes were determined in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivar PBW343 to understand the various biochemical events occurring at pre-germination (natural anaerobiosis) and post-germination (aerobic) stages. During transition from anaerobic to aerobic respiration i.e. after 12 to 24 h of sowing, a sudden dip in the activities of catalase (CAT), glutathione reductase (GR) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) was observed. The activities of CAT, GR and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) were higher in shoots than roots while peroxidase (POX) activity was higher in roots. Alcohol- and aldehyde dehydrogenase activities in general were higher at pre-germination stages than post-germination from 48 to 96 hours. Presence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in endosperm during pre-germination and post-germination stages indicated that pentose phosphate pathway is an integral pathway during oxygen deficit as well as aerobic metabolism.

In sexually reproducing organisms, two different species are always separated by reproductive isolating mechanism, which limits or prevents the interchange of genes between them. The focus here is on the reproductive isolation which is a key mechanism in the process of speciation or origin of species. Reproductive barriers or isolating mechanisms occur at both the pre-zygotic and post-zygotic levels. Pre-zygotic isolating mechanism may involve ecological, temporal and floral isolation and isolation through autogamy and incompatibility. The flower and pollination interaction that leads to speciation is also emphasized. However, post-zygotic isolating mechanism is discussed here along with embryo lethality due to genotypic interaction followed by hybrid mortality, sterility or hybrid breakdown.

Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of important classes of phytoconstituents like flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids were studied in different extracts, which are helpful for curing the various diseases like liver and spleen diseases, tumors, syphilis, gonorrhea. It possesses significant anticancer activity, hepatoprotective, anti HIV, analgesic activity and antibacterial activity. The quantitative accumulation of the phytochemicals may be different during different seasons and the rate of accumulation in different plant parts may be affected due to environmental changes during seasonal variation. Stevia rebaudiana explants (like nodal region, leaf, shoot apex) has been cultured in M.S. medium with different supplements of plant growth hormones like BAP, BA, 2,4-D, NAA (0.25 to 1.5 mg/L) and has been developed in vitro with slight variations to the mother plant. When these plants are shifted to natural environmental conditions needs proper acclimatization procedure to be followed because the survival percentage of the plants has been reduced which leads to the reduction in the multiplication of the plants. Acclimatization continues to be a major bottle neck in the micro propagation of Stevia too with lower success reported. In the present investigation - 86 - Stevia plants had undergone two phases of hardening procedure like primary and secondary hardening in the green house. The plants are washed thoroughly with fungicides (Bavistin) before starting the hardening procedure. The temperature maintenance and the variation in the potting mixture composition have a major role to play in the sustenance of the in vitro Stevia plant. The total procedure takes a time period of five weeks to enhance the survival percentage of plants.

This study deals with the exploration, identification and documentation of wild plants whose flower and inflorescence are consumed by Bodo and allied tribes. The study resulted in documentation of 29 species belonging to 26 genera under 18 families. Utilization of wild plant resources in day-to-day life of Bodo tribes has been an old-age practice. The results of this research is hoped to play a catalytic role to encourage dialogue among the tribes of Kokrajhar district in particular and scientific communities in general regarding long term bioprospecting research and shape the creation of a rural livelihood strategy.

In the present investigation, attempts were made to induce genetic variability of two cultivars of soybean (Glycine. max. L) JS-335 and DS-228 by employing physical (Gamma rays) and chemical (Ethyl Methane Sulphonate) Mutagens. The germplasm of two cultivars were procured from M.P.K.V. Rahuri, Dist-Ahmednagar. The uniform seeds of two cultivars were treated with four different concentration of EMS (0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20%) for 12 hr and 18 hr. respectively. Dry seeds with for different doses of Gamma rays 5 KR, 10 KR, 15 KR and 20 KR. The two hundred treated seeds of each concentration/dose with untreated seeds were sown in the field during kharif of 2010 in RBD (25 x 50 cm). The parameters, %seed - 85 - germination, pollen sterility, survival of plants, seedling injury were studied in M1 generation. M2 population was screened for frequency and spectrum of chlorophyll mutations. Gamma ray was found highly effective to induce. High frequency of chlorophyll mutations like Xantha, Chlorina and Albino as compared to EMS in cultivar JS-335 but in cultivar DS-228 frequency chlorophyll mutations was more in EMS treatments than the Gamma rays treatments. Out of these Chlorina was predominate in both mutagenic treatments over the Albino and Xantha.

This article explores the biocultural importance of the Tanying tree (Koompassia excelsa (Becc.) Taub.) for the Berawan people of Loagan Bunut, Sarawak; the study argues that the Tanying tree is a Cultural Keystone Species for the Berawan people. To support the argument, the values for Identified Cultural Influence (ICI) and Use Value (UV) indices were calculated using open ended interviews. The ICI value was moderately high (29/35) while the UV value was found to be relatively low (2.7). Though this appears contradictory at the first instance, a close scrutiny shows that the Tanying tree owes its unique position in Berawan culture to the spiritual values surrounding it, as the tree is revered for the hives of the honey bee Apis dorsata. Owing to the spiritual values, there is a taboo on the felling of the tree, which in turn has led to the conservation of the tree and the various animals depending on it. The Tanying tree is an example for ecologically important species also considered as a Cultural Keystone Species (CKS). The inferences drawn from this qualitative research suggests that the conservation of bioculturally important species such as the Tanying will help in the conservation of both indigenous cultures as well as the local ecosystem.

Shola pith has certain traits such as milky white colour, softness, malleability, suppleness, sponginess and based on these attribute, shola pith is used making a variety of crafts which occupy a unique position in India's heritage of handicrafts. A particular community popularly known as Malaker is exclusively involved in making such beautiful crafts, with unique skill and artistic secrets by profession and earns their livelihoods. Preparation of these handicrafts requires specific techniques within different methods such as Malar Kaj and Daker Kaj, with particular tools used. These handicrafts are not only beautiful but also fetch high price during festive seasons. This article has documented all the details of indigenous knowledge based techniques used for making such beautiful handicrafts, along with the potential of wildly growing aquatic plant in the purpose of its conservation and thereby keeping Indian heritage alive.

Scientific evaluation of traditional knowledge is essential to obtain effective drugs for commercial purposes. The present study is guide to the invention of new antioxidant sources from the Acanthaceae members. Quantification of certain secondary metabolites and in vitro antioxidant activities of alcoholic and aqueous leaf extracts of Nilgirianthus heyneanus and Peristrophe bicalyculata. Both the leaf extracts were tested for various phytochemical constituents such as phenols, tannins, condensed tannins, flavonoids, vitamin C and saponin contents. The extracts were further screened for different antioxidant assays such as reducing power, DPPH, nitric oxide, metal chelating, ABTS+ scavenging activity, lipid peroxidation preventive - 83 - property and anti-haemolytic activities. Acetone fractions of Nilgirianthus heyneanus leaf registered significantly high amount of secondary metabolites and also it effectively scavenged the free radicals in a concentration dependent manner than Peristrophe bicalyculata leaf extracts. Results were compared with standard antioxidants such as rutin, quercetin, BHA and BHT. This study further confirmed the traditional use of N. heyneanus and P. bicalyculata as a natural source of antioxidants and prevents free radical-induced life-threatening diseases.

Dominant families were Fabaceae (genera 23, species 31), Cucurbitaceae (genera 13, species 24), Convolvulaceae (genera 5, species 14), Asclepiadaceae (genera 12, species 18), Menispermaceae (genera 6, species 7) and Vitaceae (genera 3, species 8). The list of plant species with botanical names, occurrence, flower colour, flowering and fruiting period is presented in this paper.

S-Hepta-O-benzoyl maltosyl-1-aryl-5-phenyl-2, 4 isodithiobiurets have - 82 - been synthesized by the interaction of S-hepta-O-benzoyl maltosyl-1-arylisothiocarbamides with phenyl isothiocyanate. All new compounds have been characterized by spectral analysis such as IR, 1H NMR and mass spectra as well as elemental analysis and in-vitro antimicrobial activity of maltosyl isothiocarbamides and related isodithiobiurets has been evaluated against several human pathogens. Out of 12 compounds prepared and screened, four compounds have shown significant activity against different human pathogens.

There are direct evidences of scientific validation for six pathological conditions while its anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic and oxytocic potential provides indirect evidences for some of the folk medicinal claims and both these evidences authenticate the credibility of folk wisdom on B. ceiba L.

The present paper deals with investigation of relationship between the soil bacterial diversity and forest vegetation diversity in naturally developed plant communities of existing plant-soil relationships of Nambor wild life sanctuary, Golaghat, Assam, India. The investigations have aimed to isolate and characterize the total viable bacteria (Rhizobacteria) from the rhizosphere of seven economically important plants viz., Tetrameles mudiflora R. Br., Mesuaferrea L., Bischofia javanica Bl., Ficus glomerata Roxb., Tectona grandis L., Lagerstroemia speciosa (L) Pers., Dillenia indica L. The isolates were identified and characterized on the basis of colony morphology and biochemical traits. Out of thirty five bacterial isolates, eight strains were placed in different genera viz., Neisseria, Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Corynebacterium, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus and Micrococcus. Total fourteen different species were identified from the eight different genera of bacteria.

The present investigation reports induction of a novel, vegetable type, indeterminate mutant for the first time in Pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Mill sp.] as a result of treatment with Gamma Rays. The M2 progeny raised from seeds treated with 300Gy dose of Gamma Rays induced novel mutants showing indeterminate growth with raceme type of inflorescence and showed two fold increases in number of branches per plant as compared to their control counterparts. The mutants were high yielding in nature and showed at least three fold increase number of Pods per plant. The mean yield per plant is almost thrice to that of the control plants. This Mutant was named as vegetable type indeterminate mutant. Differences observed between the Vegetable type indeterminate mutant and corresponding control plants and correlation between the parameters were discussed in the text. The vegetable type, indeterminate mutant provides continuous supply of green pods, which can be eaten raw, to the market. This mutant seems to be very promising one and can be released as a new variety after appropriate field tests.

In the present investigation, the effect of different doses of Gamma rays (100, 200, 300 and 400 Gy) and different concentrations of EMS (10, 20, 30 and 40 mM) were studied on the frequency of Chlorophyll mutants in M2 generation of Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Mill sp.) Var - ICPL-87. From the used concentration of mutagens, 200Gy (Gamma) and 20mM (EMS) induces high frequency of chlorophyll mutations. Four types of chlorophyll mutants were isolated i.e., Albino, Chlorina, Xantha and Striata. The data obtained from on biological damage in M2 generation of Pigeonpea, spectrum and frequency of chlorophyll mutation was computed. From the presence of wider spectrum and high frequency of all mutants it was concluded that Pigeonpea (ICPL - 87) is more sensitive to Gamma Rays than EMS. The frequency of the chlorophyll mutations were increased and found at maximum at middle dose of the mutagen (200 Gy of Gamma and 20 mM of EMS) and there after decreased at higher doses of both mutagens. The overall spectrum of induced chlorophyll mutations as observed in Pigeonpea was in the following order. Chlorina (26.08%)

This paper given an account of the effect of cellular tower radiation due to electro magnetic frequency (EMF) on pollen fertility on the plant Crinum asiaticum belonging to family Amaryllidaceae. Fertility and sterility of pollen grains were well differentiated in different samples of plants varying in distance from the tower. The fertility of the pollen grains were found to be affected due to the cellular tower radiation. The structure of microspore and their total number in a view of microscope, percentage fertility and sterility were observed to be severly affected against the distance gradient from - 80 - the cell tower. It was observed that cellular tower radiation decreased the fertility of the plants due to reduced pollen growth. This may cause reduction in the population of particular flora in the long run and gradually leading towards imbalance in ecological diversity of a place.

Study examines species recovery and change in community composition four decades after the management plan completely constrained all silvi-cultural activities in Doon Valley (India) moist deciduous sal forests (Shorea robusta). These forests experienced intensive commercial logging for an extended period (> 100 years). To discontinue disintegration and improve the diversity and regeneration, these were declared protective and consequently all silvicultural activities were abandoned. For this, species richness and regeneration were studied in the context of overstorey structure, employing nested quadrat method. Out of 130 species reported in the earliest-most study from these forests, only 68 species were recorded here. Change in community composition has taken place with Mallotus philippensis becoming dominant in one community; this association is new for these forests. Effect of overstorey structure was noticeable, highest species richness and diversity were increasing with a decrease in tree density and basal area. These forests showed impaired regeneration progression; for all the groups there was a wide gap between the seedlings and saplings conversion to advance stages. Prospects of recovery are fair as several tree species were reported in juvenile stages with adequate density. Results demonstrated that conversion of forests having a long history of exploitation to protected forest is initially good, but for successful recovery, after a restitution time, it is desirable to emulate intermediate disturbance by selective harvesting of old and malformed trees. This will initiate gap-phase regeneration and channelize resources to lower diameter class trees to develop.

Dendrobium is an endangered genus in the orchid family with medicinal and horticultural value. Two preliminary genetic linkage maps were constructed using 90 F1 progeny individuals derived from an interspecific cross between D. nobile and D. moniliforme (both, 2n = 38), using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and intersimple sequence repeat (ISSR). A total of 286 RAPD loci and 68 ISSR loci were identified and used for genetic linkage analysis. Maps were constructed by double pseudo-testcross mapping strategy using the software Mapmaker/EXP ver. 3.0, and Kosambi map distances were constructed using a LOD score ≥ 4 and a recombination threshold of 0.4. The resulting frame map of D. nobile was 1474 cM in total length with 116 loci distributed in 15 linkage groups; and the D. moniliforme linkage map had 117 loci placed in 16 linkage groups spanning 1326.5 cM. Both maps showed 76.91% and 73.59% genome coverage for D. nobile and D. moniliforme, respectively. These primary maps provide an important basis for genetic studies and further medicinal and horticultural traits mapping and marker-assisted selection in Dendrobium breeding programmes.

The antioxidant activities of the extract were determined by evaluating free radical scavenging activity using DPPH (1, l,-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl), total antioxidant activity, reducing power assay, total phenolic content and flavonoids. All the extracts showed significant antioxidant activity with the standard DPPH radical scavenging and total antioxidant activity for unripe fruits ranging from 44.1% to 98.2% and 0.043% to 0.144% respectively. The antioxidant activity increased with concentration of the extracts. Unripe fruits also contain phytochemicals like alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and total phenols.

The charecterstics of thirty - nine pollen types identified from G. Madugula mandal of Paderu forest division, Visakhapatnam district are described in this paper. The pollen types seems to belong to viz., Asteraceae, Malvaceae, Apocynaceae, Nyctaginaceae, Poaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Solanaceae, Boraginaceae, Convolvulaceae, Oleaceae, Amaranthaceae, Rhamnaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Celastraceae, Papaveraceae, Caesalpiniaceae, Lamiaceae, Rubiaceae, Plumbaginaceae, Acanthaceae, - 78 - Sapindaceae and Boraginaceae families. These pollens differ in pollen morphology in symmetry, shape, polarity, apertural pattern and sculpture, This diversity seen here may help in identification of various taxa and thus may be useful in taxanomy.

Indigenous herbal medicine has been playing an important role in healing different kinds of ailment of human beings. A large number of herbs have medicinal values and also used for therapeutic purpose. Assam, one of the seven states of North East India has a strong base in indigenous herbal formulations. The composite knowledge persisted within the tribal communities of Assam has tremendous scope to deliver the leads for modern therapeutics. In this paper some folklore practices that have been followed since time immemorial for the treatment of bone fractures were recorded from different tribal dominated villages of Goalpara district of Assam during last ten years of our ethno-medico-botanical studies. We have enumerated 45 plant species which are reported to be much effective in healing this kind of ailment of human beings. Two present study deals with 45 wild plant species which are reported to, have curative property for bone fractures and setting right the dislocated bone joints.

Aim is to compare the antibacterial activity of different solvent extract of Clavaria rosea. Different solvent - 77 - extract of Claveria rosea was prepared. Standard cultures of Escherichia coli (MTCC-1698), Klebsiella pneumoniae (MTCC-7028), Pseudomonas aeuroginosa (MTCC-1934), Salmonella typhi (MTCC-733), Xanthomonas campestris (MTCC-2286), Pseudomonas syringae (MTCC-1604) and Agrobacterium tumefaciens (MTCC-431), gram negative. Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC-902) and Streptomyces pneumoniae (MTCC-4734), gram positive were used for the study. The antibacterial tests used were the agar well plate method. Tetracycline and Ciprofloxacin was used as the positive control. The chloroform and methanol extract of Claveria rosea does not show any activity against X. campestris, E. coli, S. typhi, P. aeuroginosa and P. syringae at all concentration in gram negative pathogens. Whereas petroleum ether extract cannot show against S. pneumoniae at all concentration in gram positive pathogens. However, the activity was less than the standard Tetracycline and Ciprofloxacin. The extract shows increasing inhibitory activity with increase in concentration (50%-100%). The use of natural products including medicinal mushrooms is increasing day by day and the growth of the medicinal mushroom for this reason our investigation, for screening different solvent extract of Claveria rosea the results obtained confirmed therapeutic potency of some mushroom used in traditional medicine. The mushroom could be potential source of new antimicrobial agent.
