No. 21 incline is an extensively developed mine. The mine is having three working seams namely Index seam, Queen seam and King seam. The king seam was extracted by Britishers during pre-independence era. The Queen seam is developed in two sections namely top section and bottom section. The thickness of the Queen seam is 9.5 m. The thicknes of the Index seam is 2.5 m. The out put of the mine is 800 tonnes per day. The present system of mining is by board and pillar method by tub loading. Blasting gallery method is approved in this mine which needs a change in the system of conveying coal. The importance of selection and installation of evacuation system in profitability sharing for the entire life of the mine has been highlighted.

Metal corrodibility, solution corrosiveness and corrosion rates for mild steel in acidic media as a function of time have been studied. Although corrosion is a long time process, it takes place at a fast rate in the beginning and goes on decreasing with time. The methods prevalent in the field of corrosion rate determination furnish an average value for a long time interval. In this paper, the corrosion rate of carbon steel in 4N H₂SO₄ with and without inhibitor have been studied using gravimetric and electrochemical methods. Besides looking at the versatility and minimum detection limits of voltammetric methods, the authors have developed a new voltammetric method for the determination of corrosion rates at short time intervals. The results of corrosion of carbon steel in 4N H₂SO₄ with and without ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) at short time intervals are reported. The inhibition efficiency of EDTA is 93% after 24 h. Significantly, it has also been possible to determine the corrosion rates simultaneously with respect to each species appearing in the solution i.e. Fe(II) and Fe(III) in present case.
