Laboratory study was conducted on the effect of COD loading rate on the operating condition of co-digester using secondary sewage sludge and vegetable solid waste. Vegetable solid waste (decayed) was collected chipped and sieved to a size of 1mm with the help of sieves as one of the methods of pre-treatment. The changes in COD loading rate showed higher COD concentration of the vegetable solid waste at the bottom port compared to the bottom port of the co-digester. It was inferred that the digester failed to generate biogas after 68<^>thday of operation and abruptly dropping to zero immediately on the next day. The increase in COD loading upto 4101 day resulted in larger fluctuations of biogas generation. It was also observed that, further addition of COD loading reduced the biogas generation to 0 mL/d at the end of 69<^>th day showed no biogas generation till the end of operation period 100 days. This condition was experimentally observed to reach a probable shock loading subjected to substrate inhibition on the already developed microorganisms.

The paper proposes approximate methods for deriving Bit Error Rate (BER) in DQPSK-OFDM systems over Rayleigh and Rician fading channels. The numerical results are plotted as BER Vs SNR for various values of Rician factor K and for various values of Doppler frequency shifts by using MATLAB software. The performance of Rayleigh and Rician channel using DQPSK-OFDM technique is compared with that of the Rayleigh and Rician channel without OFDM technique for various Doppler frequency shifts. It is observed that there is a decrease in the probability of error in Rayleigh and Rician channels using OFDM technique compared to Rayleigh and Rician channel without OFDM technique.

Real time rate of change of pressure (RCP) measurement in pressure system 2 was performed by fuzzy control algorithm with different set pressure in pressure system I. RCP decreases as the set point pressure increases. RCP is less in continuous opening of valve than the valve opening in a short period of time. Hence, it is advisable to open the valve of system (for which RCP and pressure regulation has to be done smoothly) in a continuous mode instead of opening in a short period of time. As the set pressure increases, RCP decreases and approaching to zero Ouctuations for the set pressure of 2 bar for both the cases of opening of valve in short period of time as well as for continuous opening. Pressure regulation in system I was performed with fuzzy controller without peak overshoot and little variation in the controlled out put. Pressure regulation was achieved in a short period of time due to fast processing speed of ARM 7 processor.

The authors have proposed art efficient algorithm called GSAMTSS (Genetic Search and Associative Memory Technique for Speech and the Speaker) for the recognition of Bengali Language. This paper has attempted to recognize certain phrases or sentences spoken in Bengali Language and the recognition is speaker independent. A number of parameters have been extracted and filtered using Digital Signal Processing and Genetic based method. At the same time a new strategy of Soft Computing technique called UTAM (Unidirectional Temporary Associative Memory), which works like a Syntax Recognizer, to enhance speaker independence, has been adopted. The practical implementation has successfully progressed towards bridging the gap between Human and Computer.

The treatment system comprises of chlorination, activated carbon filtration, pesticide removing system, softener, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, marble chip filtration unit, micron filtration, UV disinfection and ozonation. Study was carried-out following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) & Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). It was found that for manufacturing one litre of Rail Neer packaged drinking water 1.64 litre water was consumed.

Discretization of open and closed solid surfaces is an essential part of any CAD/CAM tool for effective and accurate geometric representation. Most of the existing techniques deal with generation of flat rectangular or triangular elements (i.e. C<^>0 continuous), using tessellation over B-spline or NURBS surfaces defined over rectangular domain using rectangular patches, and thus may suffer from geometric and derivational inconsistencies in case of triangular domains. This paper explores the application of the possibility of the generation of derivationally continuous, smooth, and fair triangular elements using piecewise polynomial parametric surfaces which interpolate prescribed R<^>2 scattered data using spaces of parametric splines defined on R<^>2 triangulations for open and closed surfaces. The method is based upon minimizing a physics based certain natural energy expression (i.e. as a fairness norm) over the parametric surface. The geometry is defined as a set of stitched triangles prior to the generation of triangular elements. As for derivational continuities between the two triangular patches C<^>0 or C<^>1 continuity or both as per the requirements have been imposed. The C (approximate) continuity can also be achieved with the addition of a penalty term, and it has been also considered as a smoothness norm. The problems involving triangular element generation for flat, and non-flat plates, and closed solid surface have been presented.

Static and fatigue analysis of steel leaf spring and composite multi leaf spring made of glass fibre reinforced polymer Primary objective is to compare the load carrying capacity, stiffness and weight savings of composite leaf spring with that of steel leaf spring. The design constraints are stresses and deflections. Finite element analysis with full bump load on 3-D model of composite multi leaf spring was done using ANSYS 7.1 and analytical results were compared with experimental results. Composite leaf spring had 67.35% lesser stress, 64.95% higher stiffness and 126.98% higher natural frequency than that of existing steel leaf spring. A weight reduction of 68.15% was also achieved by using composite leaf spring. Fatigue life of composite leaf spring (10, 00,000 cycles) was more than that of conventional steel leaf spring (2, 00,000 cycles).

Froth flotation (FF) pretreatment of coal from Hazro, Turkey, for enhancing desulfurization with sodium hydroxide was investigated. FF reduced following contents of coal: ash, 58.54; pyritic sulfur. 79.34; and volatile matter. 56.98%. The coal notation was 69.59%. FF could not remove organic sulfur. Coal concentration obtained from notation was leached using aqueous NaOH and its organic sulfur content was reduced by 59.27%. Hence using combination of two methods. total sulfur. ash and volatile mailer contents was reduced by 88.06%. 63.13% and 77.32%. respectively.

Restoration of normal hearing of permanently deaf persons is an active research area. Deafness is due to loss of hair cells attached to the basilar membrane in Cochlea. It can be overcome through cochlear implant that bypasses the normal hearing mechanism and electrically stimulating the auditory neurons directly. Signal processor is an important component of Cochlear implant device, which is responsible in delivering the speech information to the electrodes of implant device. Multi-channel implants provide both temporal-amplitude and spectral representation of auditory event by using distributed array of electrodes to selectively stimulate discrete populations of spiral ganglion cells at multiple sites in the cochlea. Analog and pulsatile are the two basic types of stimulation techniques. This paper deals with the performance analysis of Continuous Interleaved Sampling processor using pulsatile stimulation.

Fiber wrapping or encasement of columns with fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) sheets significantly enhances strength and ductility of concrete columns. To investigate the behavior of concrete columns confined by fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets under uniaxial compression, analytical models were solved using Finite Element Method (FEM) against published experimental data. Cross sections of concrete columns in the analysis are categorized into circular, square and rectangular sections. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) can effectively simulate the behavior of concrete columns confined by FRP sheets when the proper numerical model is adopted. Results from a series of the analysis on small-scale specimens showed that confinement increased strength (20-25%) and ductility of concrete columns loaded axially. ANSYS (version 6.0) offers a series of very robust nonlinear capabilities for designs and analyses.

It can easily be incorporated with any kind of classifier, however till date, only instance-based classifiers make use of it. This paper deals with the novel method of implementing instance typicality in terms of values at the outputs of neurons in the output layer of a neural network classifier to i) select best set of training instances to build compact and accurate classification models ii) to select best set of unseen instances and iii) to build models with incremental learning ability. Experimental results show that the method is efficient.

Laboratory study was conducted to monitor the water quality of Dikrong River and Nirjuli stream, at Nirjuli Arunachal Pradesh, India. The important partameters tested were temperature, alkalinity, pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen (DO), acidity and most probable number (MPN) of coli forms. The concentrations levels observed were above the permissible limits except acidity, alkalinity and conductivity prescribed by Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) and European Commission (EC). Study reveals that the domestic sewage discharge from the people living nearby the bank of these two rivers is real threat for its water quality.

Authors propose a new method to estimate space-variant blur for a class of systems whose blurring functions can be parameterized. These include the Gaussian, the uniform, and the cylindrical point spread functions which are commonly used in most works. The main contribution of this paper is the development of a unified recursive framework for space-variant blur identification using the particle filter. For well-posedness, a smoothness constraint is enforced on the spatial distribution of the blur parameter. The prior and posterior probability distributions of the samples of the blur parameter are arrived at by propagating them through an appropriately derived state model and the given measurement model. The weights of the samples thus computed are used to arrive at the estimates of the blur parameter. The method is validated by demonstrating its performance on real images degraded by space-variant Gaussian blur, uniform 1-D motion blur and cylindrical blur.

Thermal cycles during welding influence the rate of cooling of the weld metal and have a great influence on the mechanical properties of the weld metal such as tensile strength, hardness, toughness etc. The thermal cycles also influence the residual stresses and distortion in the weldment and the cold cracking susceptibility of the weld. Thus the knowledge of the thermal cycles and temperature distribution in the weld metal is essential for assessing the other factors. The thermal cycles during welding are dependent on the heat input, the mechanical properties such as thermal conductivity and specific heat, heat loss parameters like convection and radiation and section properties like thickness. In practical cases, the joining of plates having different thickness is quite common and the thermal cycles in such instances will be different from those for the joining of either plate. In this paper, the thermal cycles experienced by a weldment joining plates having different thickness using gas tungsten arc welding process have been analysed. The transient thermal analysis has been performed using finite element method. The thermal cycles at various locations from the weld and the temperature distribution for various time intervals have been studied. The model employed for the analysis and the thermal results are discussed in detail.

Ad hoc networks are a new wireless networking paradigm in which mobile hosts rely on each other to keep the network connected without the help of any pre-existing infrastructure or central administrator. This project addresses key management, which is one of the most challenging tasks in developing security solutions for MANETs. The various steps involved in the project are clustering, key generation, determination of keys for secure symmetric and asymmetric communication and building a distributed certificate authority for secure routing. Clustering divides the network into non-overlapping clusters. The key generation protocol is based on GDH.2 algorithm. Decentralization of the certificate authority is done using ( K, N ) threshold cryptography. Simulation results show that the hybrid solution provides a significant improvement in the performance of the key management solution in terms of throughput.

Cold wire addition has been widely accepted to be potential tool for reducing the number of passes and increasing the productivity of thick section joints. Multi wire technique of submerged arc welding process enhances the productivity in welding of structural components etc. However the cold wire addition in single wire SAW welds have the inherent advantages of higher metal deposition as compared to conventional SAW, enhancing the joint completion rate and resulting in less flux consumption. Further Cold wire addition technique does not require addition of heat input. This technique enables lower heat input per gram of wire deposited. The equipment for this technique apart from using an additional wire feeding arrangement for cold wire feeding is same as that for the submerged arc welding. The influence of the diameter of cold wire addition on the metal deposition also investigated for the same quantum of heat input, leading to finer microstructure and better mechanical properties. This paper describes the experimental work carried out at WRI and M/S Lakshmi Engg Industries , Trichy to study the effect of process parameters on bead characteristic like, bead geometry, dilution, deposition rate, hardness survey, mechanical properties, macro and microstructure analysis. The results are compared with that of submerged arc-welding technique.

Addition of various ethers and alcohols to unleaded gasoline is widely employed to improve its octane quality and to reduce CO and HC emissions in the engine exhaust. In the present study three oxygenate additives were tested for emission control of a spark ignited engine. The results indicate that the CO reduction efficiency of all the three additives is found to increase with the concentration. The CO reduction varied from 63% at minimum load to 20% at full load for 1 molar (1M) concentration. The HC emissions are slightly lower than that of neat gasoline and reduction ranges up to 28%. Computationally efficient and low complexity method for Multi User Detection (MUD) of DS-CDMA signal is proposed. Direct Sequence-Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) has been found to be attractive in applications such as Wireless Networks, Broad band local access and Cellular Telephony. The conventional DS-CDMA detector follows single user detector strategies in which each user is separately detected and more over which exhibits anomalous behaviour. A better way to improve detection of each individual user is Multi User detection. The reliability of a decision increases with "increasing magnitude of Log Likelihood Ratio (LLR), as a result the error propagation associated with a wrong decision and the resulting error probability for the remaining user can be minimized. The proposed algorithm is efficient for both coded and uncoded signals. The performance of the detector is analysed in terms of BER and SNR with low and high correlation. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is superior when compared with the existing multiuser detection scheme under various situations. A brief description of optimal MUD schemes is given and implementation of some low complexity sub optimal detector also described.

Binary Decision Diagrams (BDDs) play an important role in various VLSI design applications, especially in synthesis, verification, and testing. Several tools based on heuristic algorithms are available for generating an optimized BDD for a given order of variables, or for finding the best order. BDDs are mostly suitable for direct technology mapping to multiplexer (MUX)-based circuits and FPGAs. Shows how a BDD can be directly employed to design circuits with dual-rail adiabatic MUX blocks. The method yields around 22% reduction in the number of MUX blocks for several benchmark circuits. Use of adiabatic MUX blocks will reduce dynamic power consumption significantly, although the chip area and delay may increase to some extent.

Activated fly ash has been investigated for the adsorption of copper (II) dissolved in wastewater. Physico-chemical parameters such as adsorbate concentration, pH, adsorbent dose, temperature, presence of interfering ions etc were optimized by employing batch adsorption technique. Adsorption was endothermic and followed Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms, however, the latter fitted well. Isotherms were used to estimate thermodynamic parameters for the adsorption process. Kinetic data were fitted to the models of intraparticle diffusion, pseudo second order and Lagergren model which followed more closely to the pseudo second order chemisorption model. The regeneration and reusability of the adsorbents were also assessed. Maximum removal of copper was obtained at pH 4 and temperature 50°C (about 98% for adsorbent dose of 20 g/l and 50 mg/l initial feed concentration).

Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) are in general expected to cope up with static and moving obstacles. The robot navigation is carried out in many different ways, of course depending on the type application. The robot motion is usually decided by taking into account obstacle configuration, robot kinematics and the result of the modification of the local perception. Subject to these basic constraints, several procedures and methodologies have been developed for robot navigation. Two basic approaches are currently in use for fixing the path of an AMR, at any point of time in a known environment, and instantaneous fixing of path directions depending on situations in an unknown environment purely based on data acquired by the sensors of the robot. The former approach is error free because the nature of the environment is a priori known, where as the latter approach is not. Most of the current research is being focused on to the second approach with an intention of developing a universal technique in order to meet the challenges of obstacle avoidance in any unknown environment by an AMR, the deep space with asteroids and a spaceship, for instance. Authors are concerned with the problem of identifying a technique for path generation of an AMR in an unknown environment. For the past few years, a number of path fixing techniques have been developed each having its own merits and demerits. Almost all the techniques involve the geometries, velocities, time segments and directions of motion of obstacles and AMR while fixing the path of the AMR instantaneously.

Parametric pumping (PP) is an adsorptive separation technique basem on periodic, synchronous coupled transport action. Net consequence of the coupling of alternating absorbent fluid position displacements with cycling of a thermodynamic intensive parametric variable (temperature) is a buildup of separation from cycle to cycle. Direct mode of thermal PP was used to separate Cr (VI) from wastewater using low cost adsorbent sawdust carbon. Removal of Cr (VI) decreases as initial concentration increases. For same number of cycles, separation factor increases as upper half cycle temperature increases for same initial concentration of feed. There is an increase in adsorption with increasing pH. A marked increase in separation can be achieved using thermal PP in place of adsorption.

An overview has been made for different statistical mechanisms for detecting a DDoS attack on a wireless node. It is proposed with a technique to ensure detection of the DDoS by using trust level on the packets transmitted. The implementation of the proposed techniques is also presented in this paper.

Textile bleaching and dyeing industries located in different parts of Tamilnadu have provided either individual effluent treatment plant (IETP) or common effluent treatment plant (CETP). About 2.0 to 3.0 kg of dewatered wet sludge is generated at every cubic meters of equalized dyeing effluent and large quantities of sludge are stacked because of the non-availability of a scientific disposal. The sludge samples of wet & dry condition were subjected to Toxicity Characteristics Leaching Procedure (TCLP) test and analysed for heavy metals and compared with the regulatory limits. It is found that the secured landfill technology is the only scientific solution for safe disposal of the sludge. As a typical case study, MIS Angeripalayam Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) located in Thiruppur is considered and a secured landfill facility designed and presented.

Farmers all over the country are agitating for release of more water from Dams, whereas the farmers of Noyyal river basin resist the release of water for irrigation from Noyyal river dam, called Orathupalayam Dam. Because the effluents. let out by dyeing and bleaching industries of Tirupur spoiled not only the surface water but also the ground water. In this context, it was felt that a detailed study had to be undertaken to determine the water qualify index for Orathupalayam dam water which will be helpful even to the common man to understand the quality of water that is used. The water quality parameters included in the WQI are, dissolved oxygen (percent saturation and concentration), biochemical oxygen demand, pH, total solids, nitrates, total phosphorous, fecal coliforms and turbidity. WQI scores range from 0 (worst case) to 100 (ideal water quality). The other physico chemical parameters studied are COD, TDS, Alkalinity, electrical conductivity and chloride. All the parameters measured were found to be very compared to the limit prescribed by CPCB and thereby unfit for both drinking and irrigation.

A unique dual needle-looper arrangement of chain stitching is developed for decorative stitching on curved surface of hemispherical leather cup. Salient design features and working principle of ball holding and indexing mechanism are discussed. Operation of motor drives, optical interrupter type sensor, and encoder are synchronized and automated by micro-controller with programmable and erasable memory. Machine tested successfully and will produce better quality cricket balls in less time than manual stitching.

Paper shows that repeater insertion reduces not only the propagation delay but also crosstalk levels for coupled lines. Repeaters can be efficiently utilized for reduction of propagation delay and crosstalk noise at a trade of marginal increase in power dissipation. The Power-Delay-Crosstalk-Product (PDCP) criterion is introduced as an efficient technique to insert repeater in coupled interconnects. Based on PDCP a reduction in crosstalk of about 60 times and delay of 4.2% is achieved at trade of 13.2% increase in power dissipation in comparison to PDP.

This study was designed to explore whether color implicit preference can be revealed objectively by event-related potentials (ERP) method. ERPs were recorded in reply to seven randomly delivered color stimuli while participants performed all-color-irrelevant task (free attended condition) or one-color-relevant task (not attended condition to other colors). It was found that, almost for all participants there is augmentation of P300 component in free-attended condition only for one or two certain color stimuli. These results suggest that there is individual unconscious preference of certain color perception which can be revealed by P300 index in free attended conditions. The brain mechanisms of unconscious color preference, probably, are based on an endogenous form of episodic memory update.

In-network Data Aggregation is usually warranted for distributed wireless sensor networks, owing to reliability and energy efficiency reasons. Sensor nodes are usually deployed in unattended and unsafe environments and hence are vulnerable to intentional or unintentional damages. The availability of constrained resources and the presence of faulty nodes make designing mechanisms for information aggregation in large sensor networks particularly challenging. Considered Byzantine faults where faulty nodes are assumed to send inconsistent and arbitrary values to other nodes during information sharing. These values are termed as outliers and used a well-established statistical test called Modified z-score method to reliably detect outliers and then handle them using (i) Trimming and (ii) Mean substitution methods. It has been shown by simulation that the proposed strategy achieves much better target detection accuracy than classical techniques.

Software development is a complex activity that often exhibits counter-intuitive behavior, in that outcomes often vary quite radically from the intended results. Assigning more programmers to a project running behind schedule will make it even later, due to the time required for the new programmers to learn about the project, and the increased communications overhead. When N people have to communicate among themselves (without a hierarchy), as N increases, their output M decreases and can even become negative i.e. the total work remaining at the end of a day is greater than the total work that had been remaining at the beginning of that day, such as when many bugs are created. This paper presents a system dynamics model of software development, and shows an example of where adding additional manpower to a project can lead to an increased overall delay in the project delivery time.

Measurement of lateral and axial displacements of an object using digital processing of speckle photography provides an economic and convenient method for the mechanical manufacturing industry. Laser speckle photography is used with CCD camera to record the resultant speckle pattern through computer control. Image processing software combines the initial and final speckle images and applies the Fast Fourier Transform function (FFT) to construct interference pattern digitally. This paper explains theoretical basis and FFT algorithm. Direction and magnitude of the local displacement is determined from the orientation and spacing of the fringes. Lateral and axial displacements are measured and its uncertainty of measurement is estimated.

Electrical furnace firing the ceramic products has been designed and its automatic control has been implemented. Furnace (1OOx50x50 cm) may be used to fire even small ceramic products such as trinkets. PLC has been used, for the automation of the system. The heat from the furnace has been measured by means of thermocouples and has been transferred to the PLC by analog module and the heat of furnace has been controlled according to the obtained heat values. Besides, required heat degree and the heat in the furnace have been traced on the screen of the control panel. The sample products fired in the furnace proved that the system operated successfully with problem.

duTPase plays a significant role of the enzyme in DNA metabolism, and it was proposed as a novel target for anticancer drug design. It has been shown that resistance to the widely used antineoplastic drug fluorodeoxyuridine correlates to an elevation of dUTPase activity, raising the hope that dUTPase inhibitors may improve therapeutic effectiveness. In fact, membrane-permeable substrate-analogous inhibitors of dUTPase were demonstrated to be efficient against human cancer cells in vitro. This paper describes the use of signal processing concepts in analyzing such an important gene.
