The thermal treatment of Acacia wood and of the wood constituents (xylan, cellulose and lignin) was studied by thermo-gravimetric analysis in an inert (nitrogen) and an oxidative (oxygen) atmosphere. Combustion of wood can be described in terms of different steps, namely preheating and drying of wood, followed by devolatilization of the constituent hydrocarbons, the solid residue then combusts in the presence of oxygen. The wood constituents combustion differs in position and shape. The lignocellulosic materials are less reactive in nitrogen environment than under a flowing oxygen atmosphere.

Development of a catalyst/process for the isomerization of waxy petroleum oils into low pour, high VI lube base stocks is reported. Scale up of the catalyst to Kg level has also been achieved. The catalyst has been evaluated in bench scale using a number of waxy feedstocks. Hydrocracker bottoms appear to be most suited for the production of HVI oils. The catalyst is very stable and negligible deactivation is noticed during prolonged operation. Isomerized (dewaxed) oils with pour points below -15°C with VI <61>110 are obtained in large yields (<61>85%) at moderate severity conditions over the catalyst. The typical process conditions are: temp. = 340°C, Press = 100 bars, WHSV (h^-1) = 1 and H₂/oil (v/v) = 400.

Citronella oil produced from a chemical mutant of Cymbopogon winterianus Jowitt designated RRL(B)-14 has been analysed by GC on a DB-5 capillary column. A total of thirty eight components were detected out of which thirty five are identified by comparison of their mass spectra and relative retention indices. The major components of the oil are limonene (3.4%), citronellal (45.8), citronellol (9.1), Geraniol (18.5), citronellyl acetate (2.54), β bourbonene (2.9), Geranyl acetate (3.4), Germacrene (1.5), δ-cadinene (1.25%, elemol (4.25), and α-eudesmol (0.92) constituting 93.56% of the oil. Remaining minor and trace components constitute 6.44% of the oil.

There is a worldwide trend to improve the quality of diesel for combatting environmental pollution. A sulfur content of 0.05% wt or less in diesel is being used in many countries of the world. This sulfur level is likely to be further reduced to 50 ppmw in European countries by 2005. Keeping this worldwide trend, sulfur content of the diesel in India too has been reduced to 0.25% wt which is likely to be further reduced to 0.05% wt in near future. In order to meet this challenge many refineries in India have put up diesel hydrotreating plants, the catalysts for which have been provided by foreign vendors. Describes the efforts put by IIP and UCIL (India) for development of the catalyst and its performance data. The individual sulfur compounds were identified by GC using sulfur selective detector (PFPD). The catalyst developed jointly gives comparable performance to a commercial catalyst for producting diesel containing 0.05% wt sulfur or less.

In Turkey, "Turkish Coffee" is desired and preferred hot drink. In processing coffee (Coffea arabica) green beans of coffee are roasted in 120-130°C "optimum temperature for roasting" and ground into fine size, milled 0.03-0.02. Roasted chickpea (Cicer arietimum) is consumed instead of coffee and ground, milled in the same conditions with coffee beans. Changes in chemical compounds of fresh and roasted materials were established. In this research, applied method had two sections : extractions of products and determination of chromatographic conditions. Fatty acid analysis was applied to both green coffee and roasted coffee and it was run by fused silica-capillary column. Protein fractions albumin prolamin and glutelin were examined in fresh and roasted coffee and chickpea by HPLC with size exclusion chromatography having Protein-Pac SW-300 column. Sugar analysis run by HPLC was used Bondpac column. This analysis was made with both fresh and roasted products. Fatty acid compositions of green coffee did not show any change after roasting. Albumin, prolamin, and glutelin fractions of chickpea changed considerably after roasting. Sugar composition of coffee changed and reduced in quality after roasting.

The walls are maintained at constant temperature T₁ and T₂. The Boussineq approximation is used, so that the density variation will be retained only in the buoyancy term. The viscous dissipation is neglected in comparison with the heat flow by conduction and convection. The interaction of the thermal buoyancy force on a forced flow of the visco-elastic fluid is to study by analyzing the unsteady disturbance termise and the different boundary layers which gives rise in the flow field. Also the expressions for the velocity distribution, the temperature distribution and the shear stress are evaluated in section 2 and their behaviour is discussed in section 3 both numerically and analytically for different values of the parameters.

The effects of different parameters on velocity and skin-friction have been discussed with the help of a graph and a table respectively.

The development of rancidity was observed in the samples prepared with the addition of hydrogenated fat after storing for 150 days. The shelf life of the instant vada mix was found to be more than six months in both the packaging materials.

The emulsion sample is dissolved in tetrahydrofuran and injected into a mixed bed column. Distributed species are detected through a high range refractive index detector and PL logical software is used to compute molecular weight distribution related data. Polystyrene standards are used to plot a calibration curve. The selection of polymer peak limits is done manually. Various experimental factors related to sample preparation and chromatographic conditions which affect reproducibility are carefully studied before arriving at the proposed method.

Use of computerised diffractometer and detailed knowledge of the crystal lattice structure have improved ability to size crystals of CI Pigment Yellow 13-type pigments. This has enabled confirmation and refinement of correlations observed in earlier work between crystal sizes and optical and rheological properties of commercially available pigments in lithographic inks. The correlations indicate that the dispersion procedures used have produced inks in which the pigments exist substantially as individually dispersed crystals. The correlations also indicate that the crystals of the commercially available pigments are effectively perfect. An alternative explanation on the basis that the various pigments all have similar degrees of aggregation and imperfection of crystals is also possible, but improbable due to the widely different compositions and sources of the pigments. Whether or not abietyl resin added to improve dispersibility of pigments remains on the crystal surfaces in inks has not been resolved.
