The effects of solar radiation pressure on the non-linear planar oscillation of a satellite in the central gravitational field of the Earth under the influence of the solar radiation pressure, in the parametric resonance case have been studied. The presence of these forces enables the application of asymptotic methods of the theory of non-liner oscillation's due to Bogoliubov, Krilov and Mitropolsky to the equation characterizing the non-linear oscillation of the system. The break and Jump in the oscillation is found at frequency less that the resonance frequency. Observed that the solar radiation pressure however small play a vital role in reducing the zone of the parametric resonance.

Nonlinear statistical models play a very important role in almost all branches of agricultural/horticultural and biological sciences due to the existence of wide population fluctuations and complex non-linear inter-relationship among variables of interest. The article brings out the realistic nature of modeling such variables using non-linear regression approach. Four different methods of non linear regression are discussed and measures of goodness of fit are presented with a view to develop a suitable non-linear mode for describing data pertaining to the period 1960-61 to 1976-77, on average fruit yield of coorg mandarin trees. Using the Gompertz model selected, it was inferred that 94 per cent of the carrying capacity (maximum sustainable yield) had already been achieved by the year 1977 and hence there is little scope for its survival in Coorg region.

The flow and heat transfer characteristics of the steady laminar incompressible boundary layer induced by an inclined surface that moves with non-uniform velocity in a high-porosity ambient medium have been studied. The effects of the buoyancy forces, the magnetic field and the non-Darcy parameter have been considered in the analysis. The coupled nonlinear parabolic partial differential have been solved numerically by using an implicit finite-difference scheme. The effects of inertia and porosity on the skin friction and heat transfer are found to be more pronounced than that of the permeability parameter. The buoyancy force significantly affects the heat transfer. The magnetic field increases the skin friction, but reduces the heat transfer.

The input-output pattern save recognized by pattern recognition and Fuzziness can be obtained. In this way one may control the reliability of a power system. A general study of the Fuzzy logic is made to find out its merits compared with the conventional methods. The reliability of a Fuzzy space is also found to adjust the results.

A partial differential equation governing heat conduction in an orthotropic rectangular rod moving along the direction of its length with square cross section has been solved by making use of generalized Jacobi transform of two variables. The finite rod is initially kept at a given temperature and temperatures at both ends are supposed to be known. Some examples and their numerical calculations have also been added to indicate application of the solution.

The general expression of Cook-statistic has been derived for detection of outlier in the block designs for making test treatments-control treatment comparisons. The criterion of minimization of average Cook-statistic has been modified to identify robust designs for making test treatments-control treatment comparisons. It has been shown that all BTB designs that are binary with respect to test treatments are robust against the presence of a single outlier.

A general set-up for estimating population total and distribution function in two-phase sampling has been proposed. The estimators of population total considered by Hidiroglou and Sarndal and Dupont in two-phase sampling are shown to be special cases of the proposed strategy. Following Singh et al. a higher level calibration approach in two-phase sampling has also been discussed, which is in fact an extension of the recent work by Singh. The statistical package, GES, developed at Statistics Canada may by further improved to handle two-phase sampling strategies using higher order calibration approach. An empirical study has also been carried out to study the performance of the proposed strategies.

Heritability is one of the most important genetic parameter widely used in plant and animal breeding genetic improvement studies. Tranditionally the estimates used most often are based on analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques and there has been no information on the distributions of the estimates of heritability. Empirical distributions of the estimates of heritability obtained from half-sib and full-sib data using analysis of variance estimates of variance components have been presented.
