More than 120 molecules have been observed in molecular clouds, more than half of which are organic. Some of them, especially those which contain C and N are important because they could be the pre-cursors of more complex bio-molecules. Possibilities of formation of these molecules were explored during interstellar cloud collapse and star formation. During collapse, the density and temperature of the gas increase, thereby increasing the reaction rates of the constituent atoms and molecules. Presence of grains and metalic catalysts may increase the reaction rate further. Effects of grains in forming H2 molecules in the cloud were discussed. Mass fraction of simple molecules such as HCN, H2O, NH3 etc. varies with radial distance of a collapsing cloud.

Propagation of diverging cylindrical hydromagnetic shock in a rotating gas has been studied by Chisnell-Chester-Whitham method, simultaneously for both strong and weak cases for an initial density distribution ρ0 = ρ' log(l + λr) where ρ' is the density at the axis of symmetry and λ is non-dimensionlzing constant. The magnetic field has been assumed to have only constant axial HZ0 and variable azimuthal (H20-=rHZ0) components. Analytical expression for flow variable have been computed only at distance permissible by initial entropy distribution condition i.e., p0αρ0 where p0 is the pressure in unperturbed medium and γ is the adiabatic index of the gas with the initial strength of the shock at some instant as the inital condition.

The electronic properties viz. bond ionicity and heat of formation of A1B111C2VI ternary semiconductor compounds with chalcopyrite structure are investigated using Phillips and Van-Vechten's dielectric theory27-29 of solids. The values of homopolar energy gap, heteropolar energy gap and average energy gap have been evaluated for these materials. Using these parameters, Phillips ionicity of the bonds AC and BC is evaluated and is used to determine the heat of formation (-ΔHφ) for these materials. The presently investigated values of (-ΔHφ) are found in good agreement with the experimental data and reported literature values.

The approach used in model based design is to build the model of the system in graphical/textual language. In older model based design approach, the correctness of the model is usually established by simulation. Simulation which is analogous to testing, cannot guarantee that the design meets the system requirements under all possible scenarios. This is however possible if the modeling language is based on formal semantics so that the developed model can be subjected to formal verification of properties based on specification. The verified model can then be translated into an implementation through reliable/verified code generator thereby reducing the necessity of low level testing. Such a methodology is admissible as per guidelines of IEC60880 standard applicable to software used in computer based systems performing category A functions in nuclear power plant and would also be acceptable for category B functions. In this artical, we present our experience in implementation and formal verification of important controllers used in the process control system of a nuclear reactor. Used the SCADE (Safety Critical System Analysis & Design Environment) environment to model the controllers. The modeling language used in SCADE is based on the synchronous dataflow model of computation. A set of safety properties has been verified using formal verification technique.

X-ray K-absorption spectra have been recorded in the near edge region for five copper (II) mixed ligand complexes using 40 cm bent crystal spectrograph of the Cauchois type. The complexes studies are : (I) [(dien) Cu H2O] (CIO4)2; (II) [(dien) Cu imH] (CIO4)2; (III) [(dien) Cu-im-Cu (dien)] (CIO4)3; (IV) [(dien) Cu-im-Ni (dien)] (CIO4)3; and (V) [(dien) Cu-im-Zn (dien)] (CIO4)3, where dien = diethylenetriamine, im = imidazole and CIO4 = perchlorate. X-ray absorption chemical shifts obtained from these studies have been explained. This study yields useful information on the nature of bonding in these complexes. While the complexes III and V have been found to have copper-copper interactions, complex IV is found to have appreciable covalent character. Nearest neighbour distances in the first coordination shell have been obtained using the XANES data. Another method proposed by Levy for the estimation of average metal ligand bond lengths have also been utilised for the bond distances. The results obtained by these two different methods for the average bond distances agree fairly well.

The double-slit interference experiment has been famously described by Richard Feynman as containing the "only mystery of quantum mechanics". While the double-slit experiment for light is easily understood in terms of its wave nature, the very same experiment for particles like the electron is somewhat more difficult to comprehend. It has taken almost six decades after the establishment of its wave nature to carry out a 'double-slit interference' experiment for electrons. This has set the stage for interference experiments with atoms and molecules. In the last decade there has been a spectacular progress in matter-wave intereference experiments. Today, molecules with over a hundred atoms can be made to interfere. In this article we discuss some of these exciting developments which probe new regimes of Nature, bringing us closer to the heart of quantum mechanics and its hidden mysteries.

The ultrasonic study of velocity, density and viscosity has been carried out for the mixtures of alcohols, namely - isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol and glycerol with N-N dimethyl acetamide (DMA) in cyclohexane at 303,308 and 313 K. The experimental data have been used to calculate the acoustical parameters such as adiabatic compressibility (βt), intermolecular free length (Lφ), free volume (Vφ), internal pressure (πι), molar volume (Vm ) and acoustic impedance (Z). Some of the excess parameters have also been evaluated and fitted to Redlich Kister polynomials to test the validity of the excess values. It is observed in the present liquid mixtures that as number of O-H groups increases from isopropyl alcohol to glycerol, the strength of the molecular interactions between unlike molecules weakens.

A simple relation for predicting temperature dependence of isothermal bulk modulus in alkali halides is developed based on the diffusional driving force models reported in the literature. The input parameters needed for calculations are volume thermal coefficient, isothermal Anderson Gruneisen parameter both at room temperature, which are available from literature. In this paper, a new isothermal equation of state (EOS) is developed based on an approximation for volume dependence of Anderson Gruneisen parameter δT along isotherm. The values of isothermal bulk modulus BT for four alkali halides were investigated with the help of new isotherm EOS. The results are compared with available experimental data and other theoretical results.

Although the CKM-paradigm seems to work to an accuracy of about 15-20%, we emphasize that there are by now several indications that suggest the need for a beyond the Standard Model CP-odd phase. The value of sin 2β measured via the gold-plated (tree) mode, B → ψ Ks is gmaller than the value deduced by using improved lattice matrix elements. The value of sin 2β measured via 'penguin-dominated' (loop) decays tends to be even smaller still. There is also a rather large difference between the direct CP asymmetries in B0 → K-π+ and B- → K- π0 that is rather difficult to understand. More recently, CDF and D0 are finding about a 2σ signal in CP asymmetry in the corresponding gold-plated mode Bs → ψφ. If true, this would be consistent with the indications of new CP-phase in penguin b → s transitions seen at B-factories. After describing these possible signs of trouble for the SM-CKM paradigm, we give a brief discussion of some of the BSM scenarios that could be the underlying cause of these deviations. In particular, we find that the data are quite suggestive of a fourth family with m't in the range of 400-600 GeV as perhaps the simplest BSM candidate which 'naturally' explains the data.

Total electron content (TEC) measurements have been carried out at Agra (geographic lattitude 27°N, longitude 78°E), India using a dual frequency GPS receiver since 24 June 2006. Similarly, DEMETER satellite data of electron density and VLF/ULF electromagnetic emission data are available since its launch on 29 June 2004. The effect of earthquake on GPS-TEC and electron density (Ne) data, obtained from DEMETER satellite, has been investigated in the present paper. GPS-TEC and Ne data for seven months, during 01 December 2006-30 June 2007, has been investigated. Two large magnitude earthquakes occurred during this period: one on 08 January 2007 (M=6.0, depth=16 km) and other on 05 May 2007 (M=6.2, depth=09 km) at a distance of 1587 and 887 km, respectively from the observation station at Agra. The results show anomalous enhancements in TEC and Ne 1-4 days before and 1-2 days after the occurrence of these earthquakes. The calculated percentage deviations of TEC and Ne from their monthly mean values are found to vary between 40 and 80% during anomalous enhancements. The observed effect is interpreted in terms of generation of electric fields between the ionosphere and quasi-neutral ion clusters which are formed at troposphere heights by radon gas emanation from seismic region and followed by triggering of these clusters by green house gases. The electric fields so generated penetrate the ionosphere and bring out structural and dynamical changes in ionospheric parameters.

An expression has been obtained for the complex dielectric constant in anharmonic pure ferroelectric crystals using double time temperature dependent Green's function technique along with a modified Hamiltonian which includes anharmonicity up to the fourth order due to the interactions of the soft mode. The electric field, temperature and frequency dependent dielectric constant of PbTiO3 and KNbO3 crystals have been studied. Dielectric constant increases with increase in the applied electric field and decreases with increasing temperature in PbTiO3 and KNbO3 crystals. Anharmonicity is necessary in these crystals to observe these effects

The junction voltage as a function of hopping matrix element for CuO-chains, hopping of the single particle from bilayer to chain, Josephson like Cooper pair tunneling and other microscopic interactions that exit in bilayer high temperature cuprate superconductors has been studied. For this purpose, a tight binding model Hamiltonian that includes various intra and inter-bilayer interactions alongwith contributions of Josephson-like tunneling of Cooper pairs from bilayer of CuO2 planes to CuO-chains and vice-versa as well as single particle hopping between CuO2 bilayer to CuO-chains in the form of bilayer chain interaction within a unit cell has been considered. The situation considered here is equivalent to a Josephson's coupled SNS junction. In the superconducting state, the CuO2 bilayer acts as superconducting electrode and CuO-chains as one dimensional metal under fully oxygenated overdoped state sandwiched between these two electrodes as in the case of YBa2Cu3O7 bilayer system. There is always a possibility of Cooper pairs to tunnel from one bilayer CuO2 planes to other bilayer via CuO-chains. Using Green's function technique, we have obtained expressions for superconducting order parameter, carrier density and junction voltage within BCS formalism. The numerical analysis shows that in bilayer cuprates, the junction voltage depends on the interlayer pair tunneling between the CuO2 planes, hopping matrix element (tch) for chains and the hopping of single particle from bilayer to chains. Finally, we have compared our theoretical results on junction voltage with the existing experimental results.

A set of 90 large geomagnetic storms, associated with Dst (decreases of more than 100 nT) observed during 1997-2007, have been analysed. The analysis included various characteristics features as well as seasonal and solar cycle dependence of these storm events. Out of selected 90 large geomagnetic storm events, 57% are sudden commencement type and rest 43% are gradual commencement type. In the present investigation, we have analyzed in detail all halo CMEs occurred during solar cycle 23. On the basis of investigation of 354 halo CMEs and 90 large geomagnetic storms (Dst ≤ -100 nT), it is concluded that population of halo CMEs and their average speed increases during solar maximum and their occurrence generally follow the phases of solar cycle. Out of selected 90 large geomagnetic storms occurred during solar cycle 23, 56 large geomagnetic storms are associated with halo coronal mass ejections. Long-term variations of flare index variability and global Ap have also been discussed during present analysis.

The spectrum has been recorded in temperature range 296-353 K with frequency range 10 Hz to 32 MHz. The glass samples have been characterized by X-ray, FTIR and DSC studies. The FTIR spectra reveal that the network structure remains essentially the same with Agl concentration. The temperature dependent conductivity satisfies the Arrhenius relationship. The measurements show that the conductivity increases from σ = 7.62 x 10-7 to 1.15 x 10-4 S/cm with increasing Agl content, while the activation energy decreases from 0.49 to 0.30 eV. The frequency dependence of the ac conductivity follows the Jonscher's universal power law σ(ω) =σdc + Aωs. The dielectric properties are calculated using impedance data for all the glass samples.

Superconductivity in MgB2 has been re-examined in BCS-Eliashberg framework by employing Mc-Millan's [Phys Rev, 167(1968) 331] Tc-equation and form factors of MgB2 computed from the form factors of component metals (Model-I). The empty core model pseudopotential due to Ashcroft [Phys Lett, 23 (1966) 48] and random phase approximation form of dielectric screening due to Gellmann and Brueckner [Phys Rev, 106 (1958) 364] are used in the present work. An excellent agreement between the present values and other theoretically computed values of Tc and with the relevant experimental data for MgB2 confirms the validity of the present approach. The explicit dependence of λ and Tc on the isotopic masses of Mg and B, as revealed from the present work, confirms the role of lattice vibrations in the superconducting behaviour of MgB2 and the high value of Tc in it may be attributed to the phonon mediated e-e interaction coupled with higher values of phonon frequencies due to light mass of B atoms. It has also been observed that the pseudo-atom model (Model-Il) with appropriate choice of the potential parameter rc successfully explains high value of Tc2 and isotope effect in MgB2, confirming the prominent role played by electron-phonon interaction in the high-Tc superconductivity observed in MgB2. The isotope effect exponent α-values obtained from the two models are in complete agreement with each other and the present value a = 0.46 is also much closer to the BCS value of 0.5. Interaction strength N0V values obtained from the two models are also in perfect agreement with each other and the present value N0V = 0.48 suggests that MgB2 is a strong coupling superconductor.

Explicit expressions for soft X-ray transient outburst parameters, such as, the luminosity, the total energy Etot and the effective temperature Teff for the compact primary neutron star (MS) are given. The geometrical size or boundary values ξ1=3.912783541, 3.900153138 and 3.19504726, for g = 4/3, 5/3 and 2 respectively decrease with increase of ratio of specific heat γ.

Density, ultrasonic velocity for ternary systems (Amino acid + I2 + water) containing Alanine, Valine, Leucine, Isoleucine in aqueous solutions have been measured for several concentrations of amino acids as donors at different temperatures(303, 313, 323 K). Using above data apparent molar volume φv partial molar volume φV, adiabatic compressibility β relative adiabatic compressibility β relative association parameter RA, and specific impedance Z have been computed. The Δβs and βr exhibit increasing trend of variation with successive increase in amino acid concentration and decreasing trend with increase in temperature in all systems. It is due to overall increase in cohesive forces in the solution. On the other hand above values decrease with increase in temperature is due to thermal rupture of water structure with temperature. Such behavior leads to weak solute - solute and solute - solvent interaction in the system. The parabolic plots emerge into non linear ones with points of inflexion showing no removal of charge but Collisional complex formation. A non linear regression analysis has been made to determine the feed back coefficient of regression and correlation coefficient.

When the small angle approximation is not made, the exact solution of the simple pendulum is a Jacobian elliptic function with one real and one imaginary period. Far from being a physically meaningless mathematical curiosity, the second period represents the imaginary time the pendulum takes to swing upwards and tunnel through the potential barrier in the semi-classical WKB approximation1 in quantum mechanics. The tunneling here provides a simple illustration of similar phenomena in Yang-Mills theories describing weak and strong interactions.

Several examples are given, both phenomenological and GUT-related.

The realization method is based on the quarter-square technique where a square is provided from the inherent quadratic behaviour of class-AB output stage of opamp. Experimental results showing the circuit performance are described. The wore-case linearity error and total harmonic distortion for maximum operating range are about 0.23 and 1.02%, respectively.

The fluid bed under consideration is assumed to be porous in nature. Heat transfer effects are taken into account and the dimensionless governing equations of motion are solved using Laplace Transform technique. The expressions for the velocity field, temperature distribution and skin friction are obtained in explicit form. It is observed that the time parameter has a significant contribution on the velocity field. The effect of various flow entities have been illustrated and explained graphically.

From these experimental data, the adiabatic compressibility, apparent molar volume, apparent molar compressibility and relaxation time have been determined for each composition. The results have been interpreted in light of polymer solvent interactions. All the parameters calculated from density, viscosity, ultrasonic velocity and ultrasonic absorption indicate that the polylactic acid in dichloroethane as structure maker.

Laplace and Fourier transform techniques are used to solve the problem. The integral transforms have been inverted by using a numerical technique to obtain the components of normal stress, tangential couple stress, temperature distribution, components of induced electric field and magnetic field in the physical domain. Effect of various heat sources and response of concentrated/ continuous thermo-mechanical distributed source on the resulting equations have been depicted graphically. Particular cases of interest are also deduced from the present investigation.

Physical and chemical changes induced by 70 MeV carbon ions C5+ have been studied in bulk polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer by UV-Visible (UV-Vis), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Swift Heavy Ion (SHI) irradiation was carried out in vacuum at the Pelletron facility of Nuclear Science Centre, New Delhi, India using ion beam fluences of 3.0 x 1011, 3.7 x 1012, 1.8 x 1013 and 5.6 x 1013 and 1.2 x 1014 ions/cm2. UV-Visible spectra reveal both chain-scission and cross-linking of PET. FTIR spectra show a significant loss of crystallinity at low radiation doses but recovery of pristine structure at a fluence of 5.6 x 1013 ions/cm2. Both UV-Visible and FTIR spectra support the conclusion that molecular reorientation of PET leading to recovery of original structure is affected at high irradiation dose of carbon ions. XRD spectra for both virgin and irradiated PET also confirm this conclusion.

Pulse echo technique is widely used in ultrasonics to characterize the material under study, as it requires a single transducer for transmitter and receiver. In the present work, have developed software to use pulser receiver card, DUSC880 from KEIYU NDT CO. TAIWAN in flaw locator. The card generates narrow train of pulses that are fed to the piezoelectric transducer which generates ultrasonic pulses that propagate through the material under test. Echoes from the back wall and the flaw (if any) are detected by the same transducer. The control panel for data acquisition, process and display is developed in VC++. Designed software displays flaw along with its position (depth) from the surface with the resolution of ñ0.2 mm. The measurements are calibrated using standard calibration block. The software is successfully tested to detect position of the flaw in the various materials under test thereby enlarging the domain of application of pulser receiver card.

Single crystal X-ray diffractometer was utilized to measure the cell parameters and morphology of the grown crystals. The FTIR spectra taken for the crystals grown at pH values show the peak intensity. The mechanical properties of the grown crystals are studied using Vickers micro hardness measurement. Surface morphology was studied by SEM analysis. Using Nd-YAG laser the NLO property of the crystal is studied. The transmittance and absorption of the crystal was studied by UV-Visible spectrometer.

Studied the role of magnetic field in contraction and fragmentation of interstellar clouds. We study with theoretical approximation and observed value by some observers in dense cloud and defused cloud and we found that magnetic field plays an important role in collapse of a cloud stars. The critical mass for collapse is not a function of the magnetic field strength. The efficiency of star formation in the interstellar gas is reduced because some diffuse clouds will not have time to collapse to high enough densities to fragment into stars before disruption.

In order to perform differential photometry on close binary stars, the Starfire Optical Range (SOR) 1.5-m telescope, equipped with laser guide star and adaptive optics has been used by the Centre for High Angular Resolution Astronomy (CHARA) group. Images were acquired in two near-IR pass bands of over twenty pairs and reduced by fitting both the point spread function (PSF) and the positions and intensities of the stars. Then the difference in magnitude of binary stars "'m' values were calibrated using Twenty stars for which combined I and R photometric data were available in the literature. We have calculated the colour indices for the individual components of these stars, which enables the determination of spectral classifications of both components in the systems from the data available in the literature.

Discusses the treatment of intrinsic transverse momenta in high energy scattering processes. Within the field theoretical framework of QCD, the process is described in terms of correlators containing quark and gluon fields. The correlators, parametrized in terms of distribution and fragmentation functions, contain matrix elements of nonlocal field configurations requiring a careful treatment to assure colour gauge invariance. It leads to nontrivial gauge links connecting the parton fields. For the transverse momentum-dependent correlators the gauge links give rise to time reversal odd phenomena, showing up as single spin and azimuthal asymmetries. The gauge links, arising from multi-gluon initial and final state interactions, depend on the colour flow in the process, challenging universality.

The thermoelastic interactions without energy dissipation in an unbounded elastic medium with a spherical cavity have been investigated, when the cavity surface is assumed to be stress free and is subjected to a smooth and time dependent heating effect. The solutions for displacement, temperature and stresses are obtained with the help of Laplace transform procedure. The inversions are carried out with a numerical method based on Fourier series expansions of functions. Numerical values of the physical quantities are computed for the copper material and results are displayed in graphical forms to observe the nature of distributions of the field variables.
