Addition is the most important and frequently used arithmetic operation in computer system and DSP processors. Generally two methods can be used to speed up the addition operation. One is to explicitly shorten the carry-propagation chain by using circuit design techniques, such as detecting the completion of the carry chain as soon as possible like CLA adder. Another is to convert the operands from the binary system to a redundant number system, so that addition becomes carry - free. In this paper SD2 adder of different standard bit length i.e. 4, 8,16, 32,64 etc. is generated on VHDL platform and its performance is compared with CLA in terms of area, time and power consumption report generated by VHDL. Lastly, efficiency of standard fast adders is compared with SD2 adder. SD2 adder is found suitable where iterative addition is involved, like digital filters and FFT/IFFT processors.

Deals with the study of the supercurrent density as a function of temperature, carrier density and other microscopic interactions that exist in layered cuprate superconductors. For this purpose, we have considered tight binding bilayered Hubbard Hamiltonian containing intra and interlayer attractive interactions responsible for intra and interlayer pairing of charge carriers(holes). We have assumed that the charge carrier in the nearest neighbour layers are coupled by a tunneling matrix element alongwith an attractive interaction between the layers. The situation considered here for the bilayered cuprates is similar to a SIS junction where the conducting CuO2 planes act as superconducting electrodes of the junction and charge reservoir region between them as insulating barrier. Finally,we have got the expressions for the superconducting order parameters, carrier density and supercurrent density within CuO2 plane (Iab) and perpendicular to the planes(Ic) for such SIS junction. The numerical analysis shows that supercurrent density depends on temperature, carrier density and various other microscopic parameters of the model Hamiltonian. Finally, we have compared our theoretical results with the existing experimental findings in bilayered cuprate superconductors.

Discusses how the spectral changes of quarkonia at Tc can reflect the 'critical' behaviour of QCD phase transition. Starting from the temperature dependencies of the energy density and pressure from lattice QCD calculation, we extract the temperature dependencies of the scalar and spin-2 gluon condensates near Tc. We also parametrize these changes into the electric and magnetic condensate near Tc. While the magnetic con-densate hardly changes across Tc, we find that the electric condensate increases abruptly above Tc. Similar abrupt change is also seen in the scalar condensate. Using the QCD second-order Stark effect and QCD sum rules, we show that these sudden changes induce equally abrupt changes in the mass and width of J/ψ, both of which are larger than 100 MeV at slightly above Tc.

For this aim Acoustic Emission monitoring has been used during tensile test of several dual phase steels with various volume fraction of the martensite second phase and attempted to relate the AE signals and various failure mechanisms in these steels. Different signals, which related to two mechanisms of failure, (because of martensite content in these types of steels) have been seen. By Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) of signals in each peak of energy rate, it seems a good relationship between peak frequencies in these locations and mechanisms of failure in these steels.

Quantum mechanical calculations of energies, geometries and vibrational wavenumbers of 4-nitroaniline (4NA) were earned out by using Density functional theory (DFT/B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p)/CC-pvdz/Aug-cc-Pvdz) method. The optimized geometrical parameters obtained by B3LYP method show good agreement with experimental X-ray data. The best level of theory in order to reproduce the experimental wavenumbers is B3LYP method with the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. The difference between the observed and scaled wavenumber values of most of the fundamentals is very small. A detailed interpretation of the infrared spectra of 4NA was also reported. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies show that charge transfer occurs in the molecule. The theoretical spectrogram for FTIR and FT-Raman spectra of the title molecule have been constructed.

A technique for the study of variation of refractive index of liquid has been reported in this paper. The proposed approach is superior to the existing ones because of its significant role in the industry, instrumentation, optical and chemical engineering etc. The fiber optic interferometric refractometer consist of fiber optic probe, a bottom sided fully silver polished piano parallel glass plate, a rectangular temperature controller cell filled with liquid, photodiode detector, and digital millimeters etc. The fiber optic probe is immersed into the measuring liquid. The light from the fiber optic transmitter is coupled into the transmitting fiber. After the multiple reflection of light from the piano parallel glass plate equally distanced narrow and dark fringes are develop in to the reflected region of light. The intensity of fringes is collected by the receiving fiber and forwarded to the detector and digital millimeter. The output intensity is measured by changing the position of fiber optic probe and the measurement carried out for the various concentration of sodium chloride and compared the result.

Radiation therapy is one of the established modes of cancer treatment. For the safe and effective radiation therapy, it is necessary to plan and deliver the radiation beam accurately. Radiotherapy Simulator helps in identifying the organs at risk and in localising the cancer-affected tissues. For teletherapy, the Simulator would also help in choosing the right radiation beam and aiming it at the target. Although, radiotherapy simulator is an essential tool for improving the quality of teletherapy, there is acute shortage of such machines in our country due to the high cost of the imported units and the lack of indigenous technology. In fact, many cancer hospitals with teletherapy units do not have radiotherapy simulator. Considering the growing incidence of cancer and the need for such devices, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai has recently developed a Radiotherapy Simulator. This article briefly describes some of the features of the indigenous Radiotherapy Simulator.

Atmospheric, solar, reactor and accelerator neutrino oscillation experiments have measured Δm212, sin2 θ12, |Δm223| and sin2 2θ23. The next stage of the oscillation studies should be the observation of a finite sin2 2θ13. If a non-zero sin2 2ρ13 is observed, the subsequent goals should be the observation of the CP violation and the determination sign of Δm223. Possible future neutrino oscillation experiments that could assess these questions are discussed.

The properties of electroluminescence (EL) of the electroluminophor constituting the two host matrix with one impurity are the subject matter of the present paper. The voltage and frequency dependence of EL is studied. The effect of activator concentration on EL is reported and the variation of EL brightness with increase in the content of CdS has been studied. It has been observed that the brightness B versus 1/√v is a straight line with a negative slope. In frequency dependence, at lower frequency the brightness increases linearly with applied voltage and at the high voltages it appears to increase linearly. The EL brightness is found to be maximum for a given concentration of the activator of phosphor, beyond which the quenching starts. For a given activator concentration the EL brightness is found to be maximum for a particular concentration of CdS in (Zn, Cd) S: Mn, Cl phosphor.

The real and imaginary parts of the complex permittivity of soils of different textures are calculated at a single microwave frequency 9.78 GHz and at room temperature 330C by wave guide cell method. In the view of active and passive microwave remote sensing, penetration depth for the microwaves within the moist soils of different textures is estimated treating uniform soil moisture profile for near surface soil layer. This was observed that penetration depth has the negative correlation with soil moisture content and hardly depends upon the texture at low soil moisture contents (SMC). Penetration depth decreases as clay portion in the moist soil increases and this effect becomes more significant at higher moisture levels. Further, attenuation or power loss per unit length of the moist soils of different textures is also estimated. Power loss per unit length of the moist soil for the microwave propagation increases as the SMC increases. Further, attenuation also depends on the texture of the soil.

Online radon and thoron monitors have been developed using ZnS(Ag) detector for continuous monitoring of concentrations in occupational and general environments. Their performance has been tested successfully both in laboratory and field conditions. Special features of these monitors include low cost, high sensitivity and non-interference of humidity and trace gases. The capability of these radon monitors for networked radon monitoring in U mines and in the U-tailings pond has been demonstrated. The thoron monitor is designed for stack monitoring of thoron release in a thorium processing facility. Being highly sensitive, these monitors can also be used for radon/moron monitoring in dwellings, radon exhalation measurements, radon concentration in water samples and thoron emission measurements from monazite sands in High Background Radiation Areas.

The atmospheric measurements were carried out to collect data on aerosol optical thickness (AOT) and precipitable water vapour. A portable sunphotometer had been used to collect the required data. Analysis of the collected data shows a diurnal, monthly and seasonal variation in AOT and its correlation with rainfall. It was observed that AOT at shorter wavelength decreases at higher rate than at longer wavelength. The effects such as photosynthetic action and mixing layer phenomena contribute to the diurnal variation of AOT. Minimum and maximum average spectral AOTs differ with respect to month. Also in any aerosol year, AOTs are high during summer and increase over the years. The winter records lower AOT values as compared to summer. The consequences and causes for this type of variability in AOT characteristics have been presented in the paper.

The naive time reversal odd ('T-odd') parton distribution and fragmentation functions are explored. We use the spectator model framework to study flavour dependence of the Boer-Mulders (h⊥1) and Sivers (f⊥1T) functions as well as the 'T-even' but chiral odd function h941L. These transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution functions are of significance for the analysis of azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, as well as for the overall physical understanding of the distribution of transversely polarized quarks in unpolarized hadrons. In this context we also consider the Collins mechanism and the fragmentation function H941. As a by-product of this analysis we calculate the leading twist unpolarized cos(20) asymmetry, and sin(20) single spin asymmetry for a longitudinally polarized target in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering.

The present paper is concerned with the investigation of disturbances in a homogeneous, isotropic generalized thermo-microstretch elastic medium in the context of three linear generalized thermoelasticity theories: Lord-Shulman, Green-Lindsay and Green-Naghdi theories, when a continuous heat source is acting on the free surface of the medium. The Laplace-Fourier integral transforms are inverted by using a numerical technique. The analytical expressions of the displacement components, stress, couple stress, microstress and temperature field so obtained in the physical domain are computed numerically and illustrated graphically. Comparisons are made with the results predicted by the three theories of generalized thermoelasticity. The results of micropolar generalized thermoelasticity are deduced as special case from the present formulation and the stretch effect on various expressions is depicted graphically.

The real (ε') and imaginary (ε") parts of the complex dielectric constant (ε<35>) of soil with varied moisture content have been determined experimentally under laboratory conditions at 9.44 GHz using infinite sample method. The value of ε'> and ε"> first increases slowly and then rapidly with moisture content. From this data, the ac conductivity and relaxation time are also reported. The result shows the change in electrical properties of soil before and after the addition of water. These results provide basis for using ground penetrating radar or other high frequency electromagnetic sensors in the detection of soil moisture content.

Ultrasonic impedance has directly been measured tor various binary mixtures using a novel experimental technique. The mixtures are dimethyl sulphoxide with benzene, carbon tetrachloride and methanol at 295 K in different mole fraction ratios. The acoustic impedance of binary mixtures thus obtained was found to be in good agreement with those calculated from experimentally measured ultrasonic velocity and density values. It is shown that the new method can be used to replace the time consuming conventional method of measuring velocity and density separately and then calculating impedance from these two parameters.

The paper presents radiation performance of a gap coupled split circular patch with elliptical slot filled with elliptical patch. Initially, a circular elliptical ring slot antenna is taken and it is modified step by step to achieve an end product with desired performance. The performance of designed antenna after each step is presented systematically. The simulated and measured results of proposed antenna are compared with that of a circular elliptical ring slot antenna. The gap between two gap-coupled semi circular elliptical ring structures and the length of major and minor axis of inserted inner elliptical patch are optimized to achieve best performance. It is observed that with proposed modifications in circular patch geometry, impedance bandwidth, gain and radiation efficiency of antenna are improved considerably. The resonance frequency of end product is lower than that of a circular elliptical ring slot antenna which indicates that for achieving identical resonance frequencies from circular elliptical ring slot antenna and modified circular patch geometry, effective patch size of modified antenna must be reduced. The outcome results into a further compact circular patch antenna with much improved performance.

Presents some recent work that has been done in inflationary cosmology. First a brief review is given of the inflation scenario and its basic models. After that, one of the main problems in developing inflationary models has been the requirement of a very flat inflation potential. In solving this problem, supersymmetry has played a major role, and the reasons will be discussed and a specific example of the SUSY hybrid model will be examined. Some problems introduced by SUSY such as the η and gravitino problems will then be discussed. Then in a different direction, the quintessential inflation model will be examined as a proposal where a single scalar field plays the role of both the inflaton at early time and the dark energy field later. The final topic covered is developments in understanding dissipation and particle production processes during the inflationary phase.

Lead selenide (PbSe) thin films have been prepared by reactive evaporation. Hot probe studies show that the films are p-type. Polycrystalline PbSe films were obtained at a substrate temperature = 373 ± 5 K. Electrical conductivity as a function of temperature is studied. Activation energy is calculated to be = 0.7 eV. Optical absorption studies show a direct forbidden transition with band gap 1.1 ± 0.02 eV and an average refractive index 2.75 in the 1200 to 1700 nm wavelength range.

This study aims at the strategy of distinguishing 3 classes of dark matter motivated scenarios such as R-parity conserved supersymmetry, little Higgs models with T-parity conservation and universal extra dimensions with KK-parity for generic cases of their realization in a wide range of the model space. Discriminating signatures are tabulated and will need a further detailed analysis.

A study of the intense geomagnetic storm on 14 April 2006 has been done using ionospheric data obtained from ionosonde station located in the American sector. The results indicate appearance of positive storm before the beginning of geomagnetic disturbance in the mid latitudes and occurrence of strong negative phase at the equator. It was observed that magnetospheric process, responsible for Dst decrease, was the enhancement of the plasma sheet and appeared to be caused by the combined effect of large intense proton density at 1400 hrs UT, southward turning of Bz at 1800 hrs UT and enhancement of speed stream at 1400 hrs UT on 13 April. The ionosonde stations located at American sectors are: College (64.9°N), Gakoma (62.4°N), Goose bay (53.3°N), Boulder (40.0°N), Dyess (32.2°N), Eglin AFB (30.4°N) and Puerto Rico (18.5°N). The present results were obtained using critical frequency foF2. The peak height of F2 layer hmF2 showed that the stations had some degree of simultaneity in the depletion of foF2 between 2000 hrs UT on 14 April and 0100 hrs UT on 15 April and that of hmF2 between 1600 and 1900 hrs UT on 15 April.

Chitosan (CS), a polysaccharide, has many industrial applications and its miscibility studies are most useful. Synthetic polymer, poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) is a subject of current research interest. Hence, miscibility of CS and PEG in aqueous acetic acid solutions has been studied by ultrasonic velocity, refractive index and viscosity techniques at 303.15 K, over a wide range of compositions ranging from 0-100% of CS in CS/PEG blends. The results of ultrasonic velocity and its derived acoustical parameters such as adiabatic compressibility (Pad), acoustic impedance (Z), relaxation strength (γs) and Rao number (R) have been used to discuss the miscibility/immiscibility of the blend under study. These discussions revealed that the blend is miscible up to 40% of chitosan in the blend and beyond this, the blend is immiscible. Using the viscosity data, the interaction parameters ΔB, μ and α were computed and used to discuss the miscibility/immiscibility nature of this blend. The ultrasonic velocity results are further confirmed by viscosity and refractive index results.

The density, ultrasound velocity and specific heat capacity at constant pressure of three crude oil samples were measured between temperatures of 20°C to 60°C. The experimental tools used were, densitometry, ultrasonic interferometry and differential scanning calorimetry to evaluate the density, ultrasound velocity and the specific heat capacity, respectively. These measurements are further used to evaluate the adiabatic compressibility, coefficient of volume expansion and acoustic impedance of these three samples. To determine other important properties for the samples, a fundamental relationship between thermodynamic and thermo-elastic properties was determined. Using this relationship, the specific heat at constant volume, the ratio of specific heats and the isothermal compressibility was ascertained. Finally, to show the potential of the laboratory data, the temperature dependence of pressure, a relatively difficult measurement to make under reservoir conditions, was calculated using the isothermal compressibility and the coefficient of volume expansion.

The stability of various atomic configurations containing a self-interstitial atom (SIA) in a model representing Mo has been investigated using the modified analytical embedded atom method (MAEAM). The lattice relaxations are treated with the molecular dynamics (MD) simulation at absolute zero of temperature. Six relatively stable self-interstitial configurations and formation energies have been described and calculated. The results indicate that the [111] dumbbell interstitial S111 has the lowest formation energy, and in ascending order, the sequence of the configurations is predicted to be S111, C, S110, T, S001 and O. From relaxed displacement field up to the fifth-NN atoms of six configurations, we know that the relaxed displacements depend not only on separation distances of the NN atoms from the defect centre but also strongly on the direction of the connected line between the NN atoms and the defect centre. The equilibrium distances between two nearest atoms in the core of the S111, C, S110, T, S001 and O configurations are 0.72a, 0.72a, 0.71a, 0.72a, 0.70a and 0.70a, respectively.

The EPR parameters (g factors g||, g⊥ and zero-field splitting D) of Mn4+ ion in h-BaTiO3 crystal are calculated from the complete high-order perturbation formulas based on a two-mechanism model for the EPR parameters of 3d3 ions in trigonal symmetry. In the model, not only the widely used crystal-field mechanism, but also the charge-transfer mechanism (which is not considered in crystal-field theory) are included. The calculated results are in reasonable agreement with the experimental values. The relative importance of charge-transfer mechanism to EPR parameters and the defect structure of Mn4+ centre in h-BaTiO3 crystal obtained from the calculations are discussed.

In mechanics of the mass point passage from one frame of reference to another moving with velocity u consists in subtracting this vector from the velocity of the particle. In general case the vector u is not constant, as, for example, when passing through a rotating frame, this operation creates inertial forces. Analysis of this phenomenon from the point of view of Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics is interesting from the general relativistic point of view due to Einstein's principle of equivalence. Shows that the vector u plays the role of vector potential which, however, essentially differs from vector potential known in classical electrodynamics. Comparative analysis of the two kinds of vector potentials is completed.

Results of the performance evaluation of a newly designed, developed and fabricated dead weight machines to realize forces in the range of (2-50) N are reported in this paper. Precision load cells of 20N, 50N and lOON having an expanded uncertainty of ± 0.03 % are used for this evaluation. The calibration of these load cells against the dead weight force machine shows that the repeatability (Rep) and reproducibility (Repr) are better than 0.003% and 0.005% respectively, over the entire range. The calibration data observed is found to closely agree with the calibration results obtained directly against the Physikalsich- Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany force standard machine having the relative measurement uncertainhJ of the force scale in the measuring range ≤0.002 %.

The vacancy transfer probabilities from K to L shell through radiative decay, ηKL, have been deduced for the elements in the range 19 ≤ Z ≤ 58 using K-shell fluorescence yields. The targets were irradiated with 7 photons at 59.5 keV from a 75 mCi 241Am annular source. The K X-rays from different targets were detected with a high resolution Si(Li) detector. The measurement of vacancy transfer probabilities are least-squared fitted to second-order polynomials to obtain analytical relations that represent these probabilities as a function of atomic number. The obtained results agree with theoretical and fitted values.

Ultrasonic attenuation for the longitudinal and shear waves due to phonon-phonon interaction and thermoelastic mechanism have been evaluated in B2 structured in-termetallic compounds AgMg, CuZr, AuMg, AuTi, AuMn, AuZn and AuCd along (100), (111} and (110} crystallographic directions at room temperature. For the same evaluations, second- and third-order elastic constants, ultrasonic velocities, Gruneisen parameters, non-linearity parameter, Debye temperature and thermal relaxation time are also computed. Although the molecular weight of these materials increases from AgMg to AuCd, the obtained results are affected with the deviation number. Attenuation of ultrasonic waves due to phonon-phonon interaction is predominant over thermoelastic loss. Results are compared with available theoretical and experimental results. The results with other well-known physical properties are useful for industrial purposes.

Presents a spatially homogeneous locally-rotationally-symmetric (LRS) Bianchi type-V cosmological model with perfect fluid and heat flow. A general approach is introduced to solve Einstein's field equations using a law of variation for the mean Hubble parameter, which is related to average scale factor of the model that yields a constant value for the deceleration parameter. Exact solutions that correspond to singular and non-singular models are found with heat flow. The physical constraints on the solution and, in particular, the thermodynamical laws that govern such solutions are discussed in some detail.
