A spatially homogeneous locally-rotationally-symmetric (LRS) Bianchi type-V cosmological model is considered with a perfect fluid in general relativity. We present two types of cosmologies (power-law and exponential forms) by using a law of variation for the mean Hubble parameter that yields a constant value for the deceleration parameter. We discuss the physical properties of the non-flat and flat models in each cosmology. Exact solutions that correspond to singular and non-singular models are presented. In a generic situation, models can be interpolated between different phases of the Universe. We find that a constant value for the deceleration parameter is reasonable for a description of different phases of the Universe. We arrive at the conclusion that the Universe decelerates when the value of the deceleration parameter is positive whereas it accelerates when the value is negative. The dynamical behaviours of the solutions and kinematical parameters like expansion, shear and the anisotropy parameter are discussed in detail in each section. Exact expressions for look-back time, luminosity distance and event horizon vs. redshift are derived and their significances are discussed in some detail. It has been observed that the solutions are compatible with the results of recent observations.

Transport through symmetric parallel coupled quantum dot system has been studied, using non-equilibrium Green function formalism. The inter-dot tunnelling with on-dot and inter-dot Coulomb repulsion is included. The transmission coefficient and Landaur-Buttiker like current formula are shown in terms of internal states of quantum dots. The effect of inter-dot tunnelling on transport properties has been explored. Results, in intermediate inter-dot coupling regime show signatures of merger of two dots to form a single composite dot and in strong coupling regime the behaviour of the system resembles the two decoupled dots.

The Hall resistivity is found to become a function of spin. For positive spin, one value is found but for negative sign in the spin, another value occurs. In this way, there is never only one value of the resistivity but there is doubling of values. The value of the von Klitzing's constant is a special case of more general dependence of resistivity on the spin. We investigate the effect of Landau levels. For extreme quantum limit, n=O, the effective charge of the electron becomes (l/2)ge. The fracªtional charge arises for finite value of the angular momentum. There is a formation of spin clusters. As the field increases, there is a phase transition from spin 1/2 to spin 3/2 so that g value becomes 4 and various values of n in Landau levels, g(n+ 1/2), form plateaus in the Hall resistivity. For finite values of the orbital angular momenta, many fractional charges emerge. The fractional as well as the integral values of the charge are in full agreement with the experimental data. The generalized constant is h/[(l/2)ge]e which under special conditions becomes h/e2 which is the von Klitzing's constant. The flux is usually quantized in units of λo =hc/e. When the angular momentum is properly taken into account, hc/e is replaced by hc/(1/2)ge. Hence, we predict a new superfluid which has (1/2)ge in place of the charge, e.

Discuss the variation law for Hubble's parameter with av-erage scale factor in a spatially homogeneous and anisotropic Bianchi type-V space-time model, which yields constant value of the deceleration parameter. Derive two laws of variation of the average scale factor with cosmic time, one is of power-law type and the other is of exponential form. Exact solutions of Einstein field equations with perfect fluid and heat conduction are obtained for Bianchi type-V space-time in these two types of cosmologies. In the cosmology with the power-law, the solutions correspond to a cos-mological model which starts expanding from the singular state with positive deceleration parameter. In the case of exponential cosmology, present an accelerating non-singular model of the Universe. Finds that the constant value of deceleration parameter is reasonable for the present day Universe and gives an appropriate description of evolution of Universe. Also discussed different types of physical and kinematical behaviour of the models in these two types of cosmologies.

Reports the results of calculations which were performed to investigate equilibrium structures, electronic and magnetic properties of stoichiometric (NiSn)n clusters with n = 1-6 within the framework of density functional theory. The calculated results show that the structural arrangement of (NiSn)n clusters is dominated by the Ni-Sn and Ni-Ni interactions. We find that these binary clusters show significant variation in the geometries as compared to that of the host nickel clusters. The preference for tetrahedron unit of Ni3 Sn is seen in the lowest-energy configuration of these clusters. The multi-centre bonding between Ni atoms play an important role in stabilizing the stoichiometric Ni-Sn clusters. Doping of Sn atoms enhances the binding energy and reduces the ionization potential of nickel clusters. These binary clusters prefer the lowest spin state. For (NiSn)6 the magnetic moment is 0 μB. The complete quenching of the cluster magnetic moment appears to be due to the antiferromagnetic alignment of atomic spins as revealed by the spin density plots.

To meet the objective of energy efficiency, increasing emphasis on use of energy saver compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), makes it necessary to analyze the effect of radiation especially ultraviolet (UV) radiation on human health. Various types of CFLs in terms of various shapes, sizes and electrical powers are studied for UV content present in their radiation. Various parameters such as UV irradiance, ratio of UV irradiance to electrical power (χ) and ratio of UV power to luminous flux (k), for eighteen types of CFLs are studied to dictate their performance. As expected, both the UV output power and the luminous flux are reduced in the case of double envelope CFLs in comparison to single envelope CFLs, however, the k value is reduced more effectively. For all types of CFLs under study, k1 for UVA remains less than 104 μW/lm, which is a safe limit for UVA. However. the study demonstrates that the use of CFLs might be detrimental to human health if these are used at shorter distance, e.g., in table lamps.

It has been found that the effects of pressure gradient and temperature gradient are to separate the components of the mixture. The inclination of channel has adverse effect on the rate of species separation while the intensity of the applied magnetic field enhanced the same.

It is pointed out that contradicting the principle (in this specific formulation) is impossible without contradicting quantum mechanics and a lack of general consensus regarding the origin of the mutual exclusiveness is at the root of the controversy and confusions.

Gallium-68 (T1/2 = 68 min, Iβ+ = 89%) is an important positron-emitting radionuclide for positron emission tomography and used in nuclear medicine for diagnos-ing tumours. This study gives a suitable reaction to produce 68Ga. Gallium-68 excitation function via 68Zn(p,n)68Ga, 68Zn(d, 2n)68Ga, 70Zn(p, 3n)68Ga and 65Cu(a,n)68Ga re-actions were calculated by ALICE-91 and TALYS-1.0 codes. The calculated excitation function of 68Zn(p, n)68Ga reaction was compared with the reported measurement and evaluations. Requisite thickness of the targets was obtained by SRIM code for each re-action. The 68Ga production yield was evaluated using excitation function and stopping power.

Fragmentation of ground state ortho-positronium (Ps) in collision with Li ion (Li+) is studied in the framework of post-collisional Coulomb distorted eikonal approximation (CDEA), giving special emphasis on the dynamics of the electron loss to the continuum (ELC) that occurs when the electron (e) and the positron (e+) are very close to each other in the velocity space (ve (≈ vp). The present model takes account of the two-centre effect on the ejected e which is crucial for a proper description of the ELC phenomena. Both the fully differential cross-section (TDCS) and the doubly differential cross-section (DDCS) (energy spectra) are investigated at intermediate and high incident energies. A broad distinct ELC peak centred around ve (≈ vp is noted in the e energy spectrum in contrast to the sharp ELC peak for a heavy projectile, corroborating the experimental findings. Two salient features are noted in the present study; (i) the shift of the e DDCS peak (summed over e+ angles) towards higher ejection energy with respect to half the residual energy of the system, (ii) comparison of the e and e+ energy spectra reflect a strong e-e+asymmetry with respect to the ratio ve/vp = 1. Both these features are in qualitative agreement with the experimental observations due to Armitage et al for Ps-He atom system and could be attributed to the post-collisional two-centre effect on e due to its parent nucleus (e+) and the screened target ion. Two different wave functions of the Li ion are chosen in order to test the sensitivity of the present results with respect to the choice of the wave function.

We use a self-consistent Poisson-Schrodinger solver in two dimensions over the entire device. A good agreement with numerical simulation results is obtained.

In this paper study inflationary dynamics with a scalar field in an inverse coshyperbolic potential in the braneworld model. Authors note that a sufficient inflation may be obtained with the potential considering slow-roll approximation in the high energy limit. We determine the minimum values of the initial inflaton field required to obtain sufficient inflation and also determine the relevant inflationary parameters. The numerical values of spectral index of the scalar perturbation spectrum are determined by varying the number of e-foldings for different initial values of the inflaton field. The result obtained here is in good agreement with the current observational limits.

The elastic scattering and the 6He angular distributions were measured in 7Li + 7Li reaction at two energies, E1ab = 20 and 25 MeV. FRDWBA calculations have been performed to explain the measured 6He data. The calculations were very sensitive to the choice of the optical model potentials in entrance and exit channels. The one-step proton transfer was found to be the dominant reaction mechanism in 6He production.

In a thermal neutron reactor, multiple recycle of U-Pu fuel is not possible due to degradation of fissile content of Pu in just one recycle. In the FBR closed fuel cycle, possibility of multi-recycle has been recognized. In the present study, Pu-239 equivalence approach is used to demonstrate the feasibility of achieving near constant input inventory of Pu and near stable Pu isotopic composition after a few recycles of the same fuel of the prototype fast breeder reactor under construction at Kalpakkam. After about five recycles, the cycle-to-cycle variation in the above parameters is below 1%.

It has been recently reported that the three-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensation of the quasi-particles is valid for the mercury cuprates at liquid helium temperature. In this study, the validity of the interlayer theory in three dimensions has been investigated for optimally oxygen-doped mercury cuprates at the temperature interval of 0-15 K. Furthermore, some thermodynamic and electrodynamics parameters of mercury cuprates have been calculated for both the under-doped and the over-doped samples at the vicinity of 4.2 K. Moreover, it has been determined that the superconducting system behaves as a terahertz wave cavity regardless of the oxygen doping concentration.

The reduction mechanism of Ni2+ into Ni particles using different precursors such as NiCl2 solution, NiO powder and Ni[(NH3)6] Cl2 complex has been established. Different particle sizes can be designed from these precursors. The smallest crystallite size (12 nm) can be obtained from Ni[(NH3)6]Cl2 complex in the presence of the stabilizing ligand (oleic acid). The field-cooled (FC) and zero-field-cooled (ZFC) magnetization of Ni particles obtained from Ni[(NH3)6]Cl2 complex in the temperature range 5-300 K established the ferromagnetic interaction up to 300 K. The magnetization values at three different temperatures 5, 70 and 300 K are 50.2, 49.5 and 45.5 Oe respectively at 3 x 104 Oe applied field and such values are less than that of the bulk value. The Curie temperature (Tc) decreases slightly with the decrease of particle size. This study will provide guidance in the preparation of metal nanoparticles from different precursors.

Compact and cost-effective array spectroradiometers are increasingly used in photometric and radiometric measurements. In this report, results of the colorimetric characterisation of LEDs using both law-end and high-end array spectroradiometers are compared to those obtained with the help of a conventional scanning double-monochromator spectroradiometer. Problems related to the utilisation of the array spectroradiometers for such applications are discussed. Effects of the most important instrumental parameters, such as the stray light suppression and the bandpass irregularities, are also assessed. The comparison shawed an agreement among the results provided by the different spectroradiometers within the typical uncertainty levels, even for the law-end devices.

In this paper, report the synthesis, growth and characterization of a new organic NLO single crystal of 4-amino-5-mercapto-3-[1-(4-isobutylphenyl)ethyl]-1,2,4-triazole (AMIT). The title compound is synthesized and single crystals were grown by the slow evaporation technique at room temperature. The grown crystal was characterized by powder XRD, FTIR, UV-Vis. and microhardness studies. The thermal analysis of the crystal was carried out by TGA, DTA and DSC. From DSC, the melting point of the crystal is found to be 168°C. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) provides information about the surface morphology of the crystal. The SHG efficiency has been estimated as 0.3 times that of KDP using Kurtz powder method and is found to be a phase-matchable NLO crystal.

Induced radioactivity in natural indium nat In) foils by high energy neutrons was measured at the KENS Facility, KEK, Japan, where a 16.7 cm thick W target was bombarded by protons of 500 MeV. High energy neutrons consequently produced irradiated the In targets placed at different depths inside a 4 m thick concrete shield placed at the beam exit. The measured activities were compared with the results calculated using the nuclear reaction model codes ALICE-91 and EMPIRE-2.18. To estimate the induced activity, excitation functions of the various radionuclides were calculated using the two codes and folded with the appropriate neutron energy distribution at different depths of the concrete shield. The calculated excitation functions of a given nuclide were found to vary widely from one another in some cases. The performances of the codes for different input parameters like level densities and inverse cross-sections are reported in this paper. Our analysis shows that neither of the two codes reproduced all the measured activities satisfactorily, requiring further improvements in the models adopted.

Based on the analysis of the three-dimensional Schrodinger equation, the effects of quantum coupling between the transverse and the longitudinal components of channel electron motion on the performance of ballistic MOSFETs have been theoretically investigated by self-consistently solving the coupled Schrodinger-Poisson equations with the finite-difference method. The results show that the quantum coupling between the transverse and the longitudinal components of the electron motion can largely affect device performance. It suggests that the quantum coupling effect should be considered for the performance of a ballistic MOSFET due to the high injection velocity of the channel electron.

Provides polynomial coefficients and a semi-empirical relation using which one can derive photon mass energy absorption coefficient of any H-, C-, N-, 0-based sample of biological interest containing any other elements in the atomic number range 2-40 and energy range 200-1500 keV. More interestingly, it has been observed in the present work that in this energy range, both the mass attenuation coefficients and the mass energy absorption coefficients for such samples vary only with respect to energy. Hence it was possible to represent the photon interaction properties of such samples by a mean value of these coefficients. By an independent study of the variation of the mean mass attenuation coefficient as well as mass energy absorption coefficient with energy, two simple semi-empirical relations for the photon mass energy absorption coefficients and one relation for the mass attenuation coefficient have been obtained in the energy range 200-1500 keV. It is felt that these semi-empirical relations can be very handy and convenient in biomedical and other applications. One possible significant conclusion based on the results of the present work is that in the energy region 200-1500 keV, the photon interaction characteristics of any H-, C-, N-, O-based sample of biological interest which may or may not contain any other elements in the atomic number range 2-40 can be represented by a sample-independent (single) but energy-dependent mass attenuation coefficient and mass energy absorption coefficient.

We show that the Grassmannian independence of the super-Lagrangian density, expressed in terms of the (4,2)-dimensional superfields, is a clear signature of the presence of the (anti-)BRST invariance in the original 4D theory.

The accurate measurements of relative humidity are increasingly needed in most of the Egyptian industries. The relative humidity has its own effect in the manufacturing of medicine, steel, metals, textile and is of great importance for controlling the environmental conditions in the factories. As a result of the above facts, it was found that the realization of Egyptian humidity scale is of prime importance for National Institute for Standards (NIS). The scale was realized using two-pressure humidity generator and humidity chamber as a medium, chilled mirror hygrometer to measure dewªpoint and RTD to measure air temperature. The relative humidity scale was realized in the range from 10% to 92% using two-pressure humidity generator [1] and from 92% to 98% using humidity chamber at 25°C. All points of results were stable for more than 6 hours with stability range from 0.18% to 0.28%. The uncertainty was evaluated at a confidence evel of 95 % within 1.1 % to 1.8% in the range from 10% to 92% and from 92% to 98%, respectively. The present measurement system is suitable for accurate calibration of different digital or chart hygrometers.

In the development, production control, quality assurance and during the selection of appropriate LEDs for very different applications, it is essential to know their photometric and colorimetric quantities very precisely. The calibration of the measuring devices required for this purpose is performed via LED transfer standards. These LED standards transfer photometric, spectroradiometric and colorimetric units and characteristics, from the National Metrology Institute (NMI) to the user. Finally, LED standards serve as references for the user. Usually a set of LED reference standards consists of at least four different LED colours (blue, green, red and white), sometimes even more. Further more it is very often necessary to have more than only one set of reference standards as a backup. This generally causes a large number of calibrations. To handle this work load, a special reference standard and a compact goniophotometer prove to be a considerable advantage. PTB developed a special LED transfer standard which operates under controlled conditions: a controlled LED chip temperature and a controlled chip current help to keep the photometric and colorimetric properties constant. On the other hand, a compact goniophotometerwas designed to measure luminous flux, luminous intensity and colorimetric quantities of LED transfer standards in a relatively short time with low measurement uncertainties.

By exploiting the theory of ordinary differential equations together with certain properties of higher transcendental functions, a useful analytical expression for the integral transform of the Green's function for motion in Coulomb-Yamaguchi potential is derived via the r-space approach. This integral transform is applied to construct an analytical expression for off-shell Jost solution in its 'maximal reduced form' involving confluent and Gaussian hypergeometric functions. Corresponding Jost functions automatically follow from this solution. Finally, as another application of the off-shell Jost solution, the off-shell T-matrix is calculated by using a modified relation between off-shell physical wave function and T-matrix which does not involve the potential explicitly, thereby avoiding certain difficult integrals, and expressed it in terms of rational functions and simple hypergeometric functions which is in exact agreement with the results given previously by other authors.

Two different methods, 'track length estimator' and 'collision estimator' are adapted for the estimation of neutron fluence rate needed to calculate the ambient dose rate. For the validation of the methods, neutron dose rates are experimentally measured at different locations of a 5Ci Am-Be source, shielded in Howitzer-type system and these results are compared with those estimated using (i) modified CASCADE.04.d and (ii) MCNP4A codes and it is found that the agreement is good. The paper presents details of modification and results of the comparative study.

In order to increase the productivity and reduce the maintenance down time, a new spent fuel chopper based on gang chopping concept has been developed incorporating the good features of the existing model. The first spent fuel chopper designed and manufactured as per new concept has undergone cold commissioning in ROP Tarapur and hot commissioning is in progress.

An extensive study of tri-diurnal anisotropy of cosmic ray daily variations for the period 1996 - 2006 has been carried out using cosmic ray neutron monitor data of Kiel and Beijing. The daily and yearly averages of tri-diurnal wave amplitude and phase have been obtained to observe long term behaviour of third harmonic of cosmic ray daily variation. The relation between amplitudes and phases (annual and daily averages) of tri-diurnal data for these two different cut off rigidities has been shown. No long-term variational trend is seen in tri-diurnal anisotropy. On day-to-day analysis, a well defined peak in tri-diurnal amplitude between 0.06% and 0.010% is observed.

For the first time a novel experimental technique has been used for direct evaluation of acoustic impedance of liquids. Till date researchers have been using ultrasonic velocity and density measurements to compute acoustic impedance and thermodynamic parameters, which are then used to investigate the nature of molecular interactions of solvent molecules in binary, ternary and quaternary liquid mixtures. Evaluation of acoustic impedance directly is a step in minimizing the cumbersome process of measuring velocities and densities separately of solutions having different mole fraction concentration. Acoustic impedances of ten pure polar and non polar solvents have been determined at different temperatures of 298K, 303K and 308K. This is further coupled with in line simultaneous determination of ultrasonic velocities of the solvents. In order to establish the new method, results have been discussed by comparing the calculated ultrasonic velocity from the experimental acoustic impedance, ultrasonic velocity determination by delay time of flight and the literature values of ultrasonic velocity of the pure solvents.

We introduce a new quantity, the fluctuation rate (φ as the number of perturbations occurring to the parameter in unit time. It is shown that (φ is the most significant quantity that determines the quality of synchronization. It is found that parameter fluctuations with high fluctuation rates do not destroy synchronization, irrespective of the statistical features of the fluctuations. We also present a quasi-analytic explanation to the relation between (φ and the error in synchrony.

The NIST 10 V Compact Josephson Voltage Standard (CJVS) and 2.5 V Programmable Josephson Voltage Standard (PJVS) were directly compared at 1.018 V and 2.511 V in February 2007. The difference between the two systems at 1.018 V (CJVS - PJVS) was -0.09 n V with an expanded uncertainty of 4.72 nV or a relative uncertainty of4.64xlO'9 at the 95 % confidence level where as the difference between the two systems at 2.511 V was 0.00 n V with an expanded uncertainty of 4.04 n V or a relative uncertainty; of 1.61 x 10-9 at the 95 % confidence level. These intercomparison results demonstrated the satisfacton; performance of the CJVS system handling minor trapped flux in the array and the effectiveness of the" NISTVolt software" to manage step jumps in the measurements.

Versatile applications in radiometry and photometry require uniform light source systems with a highly Lambertian radiance/luminance output. Examples for this kind of requirements include different applications such as calibration of photometers and radiometers, testing of electronic imaging devices like CCDs or similar array detectors or the use as a homogenous light source in, for instance, gonioreflectometric measurements. At the Physikalisch- Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) a homogenous sphere radiator consisting of a medium sized integrating sphere (e = 150 mm) with an internal reflector in the equatorial plane was developed. In its first stage of development it was equipped with an internal 250 W quartz tungsten halogen lamp. This sphere radiator had a radiance homogeneity of 99.8% of the emitted radiation measured in the plane of the limiting aperture (e = 40 mm) at the output of the device. In the latest design of the system the radiative output power could be increased by a factor of about 3 by the use of an internal 400 W quartz tungsten halogen lamp while nearly maintaining homogeneity.

The correlation dimension D2 and correlation entropy K2 are both important quantifiers in nonlinear time series analysis. However, use of D2 has been more common compared to K2 as a discriminating measure. One reason for this is that D2 is a static measure and can be easily evaluated from a time series. However, in many cases, especially those involving coloured noise, K2 is regarded as a more useful measure. Here we present an efficient algorithmic scheme to compute K2 directly from a time series data and show that K2 can be used as a more effective measure compared to D2 for analysing practical time series involving coloured noise.

In this paper, a slot-fed dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with wideband operations in 4-6 GHz frequency band is presented. Slot represents coupling mechanism between resonators and the microstrip line. The DRA and slot are both resonant structures. The microstrip feed line is positioned at right angle to the center of the slot for efficient coupling. Together they yield a double resonant structure with low cross-polarization levels and identical radiation patterns. With proper design, the two resonances can be merged to achieve wide bandwidth. The rectangular dielectric resonator placed at the center of the rectangular ring slot provides an impedance bandwidth of 42.1%. The return loss and radiation patterns of these are presented.

The experimental data for (n, 2n) reaction cross-sections around 14 MeV neutron energy have been collected from the literature and analysed for the isotopes having 1 ≤ Z ≤ 82. The empirical relations for the reaction cross-sections have been obtained, which show fairly good fits with the experimental values. The shell effects have been established at magic nucleon numbers for (n, 2n) reaction cross-sections around 14 MeV neutron energy. The odd-even effects have also been observed as the cross-sections for odd-mass nuclei are higher than their neighbouring even-even nuclei.

Hall mobility and magnetoresistance coefficient for the two-dimensional (2D) electron transport parallel to the heterojunction interfaces in a single quantum well of CdSe are calculated with a numerical iterative technique in the framework of Fermi-Dirac statistics. Lattice scatterings due to polar-mode longitudinal optic (LO) phonons, and acoustic phonons via deformation potential and piezoelectric couplings, are considered together with background and remote ionized impurity interactions. The parallel mode of piezoelectric scattering is found to contribute more than the perpendicular mode. We observe that the Hall mobility decreases with increasing temperature but increases with increasing channel width. The magnetoresistance coefficient is found to decrease with increasing temperature and increase with increasing magnetic field in the classical region.

Computes the factorial correlators to study the dynamical fluctuations of pions and a combination of pions and protons (compound multiplicity) in 32S-AgBr interactions at 200 A GeV. The study reveals that for both pion and compound multiplicity the correlated moments increase with the decrease in bin-bin separation D, following a power-law, which suggests the self-similarity of multiplicity fluctuation in each case. The results of the analysis also show a consistency with the prediction of α-niodel for the existence of intermittency in both cases.
