Allelopathy generally refers to the inhibitory effects of plant species (the donor) on the germination, growth or development of another plant species (the recipient). Chemicals with allelopathic activity are present in different plant parts including leaves and fruits which have a potential as herbicides. The donor plants release allelochemicals into the environment through decomposition of plant residues, root exudates, leachates and volatilization. Accumulation of more allelochemicals from weeds in fields causes soil sickness and autotoxicity resulting in loss of crop yield. The study has been conducted to examine the allelopathic effects of Celosia argentea L. on seed germination and seedling growth of Vigna mungo.

Senescence in Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper is studied here. The biochemical impact of endogenous hormone inherent in Eucalyptus leaf extract on it was specially studied. The studies were made by taking aqueous extract of dried leaves of Eucalyptus citriodom at various concentrations and compared with control. During study, the various concentrations of Eucalyptus leaf extract taken were W/V - 1:200, 1:250, 1:500 and 1:1000 respectively. Senescence was studied in intact and excised leaves of Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper. Observations were made both in light and dark in species under investigation. The inference drawn out of experimentation are worth noticing. Whether use of dried leaves of Eucalyptus can be done as bio-fertilizer in seedling growth of Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper by preventing leaf senescence, was to be seen. It was found out that in Eucalyptus leaf extract in light, senescence was controlled in intact leaves. But in dark, senescence was promoted at concentrations, W/V - 1:200, but minimum senescence occurred at dilute concentrations and in control in intact leaves. In excised leaves, senescence was promoted at concentration, W/V - 1:200, both in light & dark. However, at other concentrations, darkness controlled senescence. Lower concentrations of Eucalyptus leaf extract are recommended as biofertilizers for Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper.

Phaseolus vulgaris is an important pulse, belonging to family Fabaceae, is an important source of vegetarian diet. Due to its food value, its plants are cultivated from very ancient times. For cultivation of plants, the first and foremost come roots, which help in fixation of plants and in supplying water and minerals to developing plants. Root studies from physiological point of view are very important. Here physiological aspect of root development has been studied in juvenile seedlings of Phaseolus vulgaris and rooting behaviour is studied in light and in dark. The root starts with emergence of radicle, an indication of germination of seeds. During further studies on root growth, the roots take over a particular length. The root length has been recorded here. Differentiation of lateral roots is again an important part of root architecture. Whether lateral roots initiate early or late has been observed here. Lastly average number of lateral roots differentiated at a particular point of time has been observed here. Here rooting behaviour of roots of Phaseolus vulgaris has been studied covering all above mentioned aspects in light and dark. Studies started with emergence of radicle at the time of seed germination and rooting behaviour of juvenile seedlings of Phaseolus vulgaris was observed for 7 days in light and dark. Light promoted emergence of radicle, while dark promoted rest of the root activities i.e. root length, differentiation of lateral and average number of lateral roots.

In vitro studies were conducted on, carbon and nitrogen sources, temperature and pH levels on mycelia growth of F. oxysporum f. sp. vanillae isolates. The fungus isolates showed best growth on Richard's agar and potato dextrose agar media among five culture media that were tried. Sucrose was found to be the best source of carbon whereas, L- asparagines was the best source of nitrogen. Growth of F. oxysporum was maximum at 25 °C after seven days of inoculation, which was reduced drastically below 15 °C and showed zero growth at 40°C. The most suitable pH level for growth of fungus was 5.0 and 6.0.

Couratari macrosperma is widely distributed in Amazonia. This tree has economic value due to its wood. For the identification of individuals, biometrics uses data on the species and morphology facilitates the recognition of seedlings in the field. This work aimed to study the biometrics of seeds and the post-seminal development of C. macrosperma. Length, width, thickness and matter of seeds were evaluated and the germination phases were described. We concluded that C. macrosperma has variability as to biometrical features and its germination, which is epigeal, may end at 30 days, the seedling being phanerocotylar.

Large-scale quantitative analyses of associations between medicinal plants and health-related applications have been performed using, as examples, two databases: one specific for biomedical applications and the other more general-the world-wide web. Four plant species were selected for this analysis based on parameters such as common usage (e.g., Echinacea) and well-established therapeutic associations (e.g., Artemisia). Some common health-related parameters associated with these plants - e.g., malaria, infection, thrombosis, antioxidant activity- were also selected for analysis. The results with both databases were similar, and corresponded to the bestdocumented or most-researched medical roles for the plants or their bioactive phytochemicals. The analysis process is described along with calculations for determining optimal bioactivity association indices (AI). Interpretations of AI as well as influence of database type on such interpretations are discussed, e.g., influence of commercialization, and biochemical or clinical research. The analyses presented are generally applicable to medicinal plants and can also be used to analyze specific phytochemicals.

Twenty five genotypes of Okra collected from IIVR, Varanasi were evaluated in summer, 2008 to study the variability for 15 different characters. The treatment mean squares were significant for all 15 characters studied. Recommended agronomic and cultural practices were adopted to obtain good phenotypic expression of the characters. The characters number of branches/ plant, fruit yield/ plant and days first flowering at fruit set should high GCV and PCV estimates. Medium to high and high horitability was recorded for all the characters studied. The characters fruit length no. of ridge per fruit (100%), days of first flowering (89%),plant height(86%) and plant per cent affect by YVMV(84%) showed high heritability estimate, however these characters were coupled with varied genetic advance i.e. high, medium and low respectively suggesting complexity of genetic mechanism in expression of those traits. The additive genetic variance was reported by traits like plant height, no of branches per fruitjruit length, fruit diameter and no. of fruit per plant.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera L.) is considered as Indian Ginseng due to its great medicinal properties in its roots, leaves and fruits (berry). It is grown in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The production of its roots in India is about 1500 tonnes per year. A yellow mosaic disease on W. somnifera with a significant disease incidence was observed during the surveys in 2008-09 at Aligarh, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and Hindaun City in Rajasthan, India. The characteristic disease symptoms and whitefly population observed in the vicinity indicated the possibility of begomovirus infection. Berberine content in root and stem bark of Berberis pseudumbellata was estimated using Reverse Phase-High Performance Liquid Chromatography (RP-HPLC). The comparative assessment revealed significantly more berberine content in roacy habitats samples. The berberine content varied significantly both within and among habitats samples, and across the populations. The populations at low altitude possess significantly more berberine than that of high altitude. Large size class of plants possessed high content of berberine as compared to smaller size. Summer season plants accumulated more berberine as compared to winter, significantly.

Among the Himalayan edible plants, Spondias pinnata Linn. (Local Name: Amara) grows naturally and sparsely distributed in the forest between 500 to 1500 m altitude. It has been identified recently a high priority bioresource with outstanding economic and ecological value. Therefore, the study have been undertaken to assess the nutritive and mineral potential of ripe fruits of S. pinnata and their comparison with other wild as well as horticulture fruits. The fruit of S. pinnata possess food energy 189-203 kcal/g, crude fat 12.23-12.54%, crude fiber 3.13-4.03%, total carbohydrate 23.54-16.30%, sodium 1.38-0.96%, calcium 0.93- 0.15%, iron 1.5-1.3%, and copper 0.9-1.23 0%, respectively. Results of the study indicated that the nutritive and mineral potentials of S. pinnata is higher as compared to other wild edibles of the region and comparable with commercially available horticulture fruits.

Presence of certain phytoconstituents was studied by preliminary phytochemical investigations and TLC. Various in vitro models were applied to evaluate antioxidant property of petroleum ether, chloroform and alcoholic extracts of Actinodaphne hookeri leaf. In vitro studies include Free Radical Scavenging Capacity (RSC) on DPPH radicals, scavenging capacity on hydroxyl radicals (by measuring the degradation of 2-deoxyribose with OH radicals, generated in Fenton reaction), total antioxidant capacity and scavenging capacity on nitric oxide radicals. Ascorbic acid and Butylated Hydroxy Toluene (BHT) were used as standards. The alcoholic extract showed the maximum free radical scavenging capacity as compared to other extracts and the results were also comparable with that of standard.

In Chhattisgarh state, powdery mildew disease appears on many hosts every year, in mild to sever form and causes considerable losses. Some times severe attack results in distortion of affected foliage leading to defoliation. Infection of flowering buds results in reduced fruit setting and poor yields. During survey work diseased leaves collected and packed in alcohol sterilized polythene bags and brought into the laboratory for microscopic examination. They have been described using characters of current taxonomic importance in defining the imperfect stages of Erysiphaceae in modern sense. In tropics they mostly occur in conidial states and named on host basis. But this criteria is of limited use since one species may infects several hosts. But the studies made by 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 have found several characters in imperfect state in combination which are important for diagnosis of these fungi. In view of this comparative study of the conidial states of powdery mildew fungi of Chhattisgarh have been made. Which revealed valuable information on morphology of conidial states of this region.

About 20% of population suffers from major allergic disease such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, eczema, hay fever etc in India. Allergic disorders of respiratory tract involving hypersensitivity that is increased irritability of the airway to various stimuli characterized by cough, periodic or episodic wheezing and feeling of tightness in chest. Trapping of airborne fungi was undertaken in some selected locations with special emphasis that some case history of respiratory disorder was reported from that particular house was carried out during 2007 using An derson air sampler Aspergillus sp., Cladosporium sp., Rhizopus sp., Curvularia sp., Alternaria sp., Mucor sp., and Fusarium sp. dominated the fungal population and accounted 60-65 % of the total spore load. Hence it is postulated that these aeromycoflora can be one of the cause of allergic disorder.

Different carbon or nitrogen sources tested three pathogenic isolates of B. theobromae showed little differences in growth. Galactose, maltose and sucrose showed luxuriant growth and poor growth on mannose and lactose. Fructose supported both growths as well as for sporulation. Among disaccharides tested sucrose was the best for the growth and sporulation. Among polysaccharide used as sources of carbon good growth was obtained on starch and cellulose but poor on pectin and carboxymethyl cellulose. Oligosaccharide maltose gave luxuriant growth with lactose gave poor growth. Among the inorganic nitrogen sources tested the fungus showed luxuriant growth on nitrates of potassium and sodium but poor on nitrite of ammonium. Ammonium oxalate and peptone also promoted good growth. All the three basic amino acids lysine, arginine and histidine supported good growth of B. theobromae. Both the sulphur-containing amino acids cystine and methionine promoted only little growth. Tyrosine supported excellent growth of all the three isolates of B. theobromae. All the three isolates of B. theobromae had the same preferences in utilizing the different carbon and nitrogen sources. As for growth regulators kinetine was a better source than IAA in promoting the fungal growth. The growth of the fungus was totally inhibited by 2, 4 D.

This study was carried out to manage root - Knot nematode on Albizia lebbeck. A pot culture experiment was conducted in a split plot design with two main plot treatments viz., solartzation of soil for 21 days with 100 gauge plastic sheets and non solarization and 15 sub plot treatments comprising of different materials of organic matter amendments, nematicides and bio control agents and of having four blocks. The experiment was terminated after 90 days. The plant growth characteristics such as shoot length, shoot weight, number of branches, collar diameter, root length, root weight, number of galls, rhizobial nodules, number of larvae, adults, number of egg masses on root and soil population were recorded. The results reveled that the population of Meloidogyne incognita 4th stage female on roots of A. lebbeck seedling was found decreased by 32.6 per cent in solarized soil over non-solarized. The filling up of solarized soil along with any one of the organic amendments viz., FYM @ 25 tonnes ha-1, carbofuran c 0.3 g a.i. m-2, neem seed kernel extracts (2 ml/10 g of seed) and leucaena leaf powder at 2 per cent w/w besides decreasing M. incognita population on root by more than 25.2 to 52.4 per cent also increased plant weight by 77.2,12.1,27.3 and 90.9 per cent, respectively over untreated. The microbivorous nematode population in soil at 90 days after sowing (DAS) was found to be significantly more in numbers in the treatment of solarized + poultry litter @ 45 kg N ha-1 (M1S3), solarized + incorporation of sesbania leaf powder at 2% w/w (M1S14) and non-solarized + FYM @ 25 tonnes ha-1 (M2S2) applied on A. lebbeck. The percentage of Increase in the above treatment was 1.8, 1.3 and 1.2 folds, respectively when compared to untreated.

Present day distribution of the modern comparable species of the fossils of most of the taxa, growing in the mixed deciduous forests of the Himalayan foot hills, south India as well as in the vicinity of the Mahuadanr Valley, suggests that such type of forest was flourishing in and around the fossil locality during sedimentation.

An aeromycological study of unpolluted control and ammonia, SO2 and cement dust polluted air localities was done by 'Gravity Petridish method' from July 2007 to June 2008. 50, 45, 40 and 42 fungal species was recorded from control and, SO2 and Cement dust polluted localities respectively. The total numbers of fungi recorded were higher in unpolluted control than the polluted localities. Cladosporium cladosporiodes sp. was recorded as the most dominant species. Alternaria sp., Aspergillus sp., Curvularia sp., Fusarium sp. and Penicillium sp. were also prominently present. Aeromycoflora were completely different from one locality to another, qualitatively and quantitatively both.

The attempt is to analyze the activities of Catalase( CAT), Peroxidase(POD), and Super oxide dismutase(SOD) in basin mangroves namely Acanthus, Avicennia, Bruguiera, Excoecaria, Lumnitzera and Rhizophora. Catalase is an enzyme indispensable for stress defence in C3 plants and its primary function is to protect cells against H2O2. SOD activity was high in members localized in habitats suited to hypoxia. The high level of CAT and POD and the low profile of SOD have tempted to search for the possibilities of getting more H2,O2 than that produced by the dismutase conversion of active oxygen species.

However, inoculum grown on Potato dextrose did not showed very significant symptoms.

Finger millet (Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn.), one of the important minor millets, is being cultivated extensively and used as staple food by tribais. The fungi associated with this millet was investigated by employing blotter technique. In all 43 fungal species, representing 21 genera were detected. Aspergillus flavus, A. futnigatus, Fusarium oxysporum, F.moniliforme and species of Penicillium were recorded on seed surface collected from almost all places. Alternaria alternata, A. nidulans, A. niger, A. terreus, Curvularia hmata, Drechslera halodes and Mucor mucedo formed next dominant fungi. On the other hand, Trichothecium roseum, Stachybotrys utm, Rhizoctonia solani and Colletotrichum capsici were recorded on the surface of seeds collected from Khammam, Karimnager, Nalgonda and Ongole respectively. Similarly, incidence of Nigrospora oryzae, Curvularia pallescens, Chaetomium globosum and Phoma species also formed an important component of seed mycoflora of samples collected from some places. A. flavus followed by A.nidulans, F. moniliforme and species of Penicillium sp. were recorded with highest percentage of frequency. F. monoliforme followed by D. halodes, F. oxysporum, A. terreus, A. niger and A. alternata occurred with highest percentage of abundance. The biological significance of above observations was discussed.

Six species of genus Ramlina Ach. collected from various widely situated localities (with altitudinal range 1300-3600 m) of five districts of Garhwal (State of Uttarakhand: Central Himalaya) are being described. The species are: Ramalina baltica Lett., R. conduplicans Vain., R. himalayensis Ras., R. pollinaria (Westr.) Ach., R. roesleri (Hochst. ex Schaerer) Hue, and R. sinensis Jatta. Detailed taxonomic account of each species including morphological and anatomical descriptions, affinities with allied species, ecological data concerning the distribution, altitudes of occurrence and host-range is given. Spot tests and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) have been carried out to identify various chemical constituents contained by the species. Artificial keys for an easy identification of each species have been provided. R. himalayensis is endemic to Himalaya; R. conduplicans, R. pollinaria and R. roesleri are rare species, whereas, R. baltica and R. sinensis are commonly occurring species. R. pollinaria shows blue-white fluorescence in presence of 350 nm UV - light. R. roesleri have been found to occur at altitude of c 3000 m, whereas, R. himalayensis covers a wide altitudinal range from c 1300-3600 m. R. sinensis covers a wide geographical distribution as it has been found to occur in all the districts of Garhwal.

Squash seeds were treated with the powders of the pits of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera) and leaves of Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citrates) and tested against Rhizoctonia damping-off. The soil was artificially infested with Rhizoctonia solans. The treatment with the powder of waste parts of the two plants inhibited the mycelial growth of R, solani more than the biocontrol agent, Trichoderma harziarium. The inoculation of soil with the biocontrol agent Jrichoderma harzianum controled the damping-off disease in the artificially infested soil and the combination between seed treatments with waste plant powders and soil treatment with T. harzianum improved the efficacy of the biocontrol agent.

Extracts of 18 plants viz., Gymriema sylvestre, Ficus glomerate, Grewia subinaequalis, Pterocarpus marsupium, Juniperus communis, Tinospora cordifolia, Balsamodendron mukul, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Convolvulus pluhcaulis, Phyllanthus niruri, Mucuna pruriens, Cichorium intybus, Emblica officinalis, Syzygium cuminii, Momordica charantia, Terminalia bellirica, Terminalia chebula and Sphaeranthus indicus tested, only 13 plants showed significant results and dropped each observed level as compared to diabetic control group, which was almost equivalent to the levels of normal group. Five extracts viz., T. cordifolia, E. officinalis, S. cuminii, T. bellirica and T. chebula did not exert any favourable change while two extracts Grewia subinaequalis and Convolvulus pluricaulis were at par to normal in 8th week and invariably led to the formation of complications like diabetic retinopathy, swelling of feet and damage to skin of tail and legs. Two extracts G. sylvestre and S. indicus were significantly effective within 14 days after alloxan administration, and the values were almost similar to normal. In treated diabetic group the chronological order of the remaining nine plant extracts in dropping the observed levels with their respective time period was J. communis in four weeks, F. glomerata, P. marsupium, B. mukul, T. foenum-graecum, P. niruri, M. pruriens, C. intybus and M. charantia in six weeks. Further pharmacological and biochemical investigations are under way to elucidate the mechanism of anti-diabetic activity of eleven plant extracts.

A phyto sociological survey was conducted in wastelands of Kolhapur district at six different localities viz Kolhapur, Jotiba, Warange, Kagal, Radhanagari and Bambawade. The survey revealed that at all six localities, 35 weed species were found associated with weedy Cassia (C. obtusifolia, C. tora & C. uniflora). At Kolhapur, maximum (15) species were associated, while at Jotiba, Warange, Kagal, Radhanagari and Bambawade, 14, 10, 12, 10 and 11 species were found associated respectively. Among these, Alternanthera, Achyranthes, Sida, Synedrella, Setaria and Brachiaria species were common. However, degrees of their association were different at different localities. The data of distribution pattern at all studied localities revealed that C. obtusifolia, C. tora, C. uniflora, Setaria, Brachiaria, Hyptis and Alternanthera recorded the high Important Value Index (IVI) compared to other species. C. obtusifolia had the higher IVI than that for other Cassia species except at one locality i.e. at VI (Bambawade) where C. tora exhibited higher IVI. The higher value of IVI indicates dominant nature and allelopathic influence of Cassia species on neighbouring plants.

So far, nearly 1,00,000 species have been explored and given scientific names1 while estimated number on the earth is 7-9.5 millions species2. Molecular characters based on the DNA bar coding cannot always distinguish between closely related species of plants or fungi3. New criterion will be needed for proper identification of this huge number of fungal species. Hence, seven formulae have been formulated for numerical identification (taximetrics) of fungi to supplement morphological, biochemical and molecular criteria.

Present investigation was undertaken to study fungal flora from waste of paper mill of Jalgaon (7 km. away). This investigation mainly deals with cellulytic fungi, because much effluents is rich, in cellulose fibers. Aeromycological study was carried out inside and outside the paper mill campus by using Rotorod Sampler for the period of four months (From March to June 1996). The analysis of data of air spora revealed to the presence of 20 fungal spores among these Alternaria contributed 23.20%, Followed by Cladosporium 18.68%, Aspergillus 13.60%, Penitillium 7.20%, Curvularia 4.88%, Mucor 4.80% to the total air spora.

Being safe ecofriendly and effective control measure, natural pesticides have become the need of hour. In order to evaluate the fungicidal properties of aqueous plant extract of Allium sativum against Drechslera spicifera, and destructive pathogen of Capsicum frutescens. In vitro experiments were conducted. It was observed that the aqueous bulb extract of test plant controlled the growth of D. spicifera up to 20% concentration after 10 days of treatment while 5% and 10% concentration of the test plant caused a significant reduction in radial growth of Drechslera spicifera. This revealed that aqueous bulb extract of Allium sativum has significant fungicidal properties against D. spicifera.

An indigenously isolated Aspergillus tamarii with assigned accession number NIICC-08162 from soil samples collected from Kusmi forest, an Indian subtropical teak forest at Gorakhpur was subjected to amylases production and its partial characterization. The production was maximum after 72 h i.e. 221.0 U/ml. The crude preparation of amylase showed reasonable activity at temperature range of 50 to 70 °C with maximum activity at 50 °C and had a relatively wide range of pH 3 to 9, with maximum enzyme activity at pH 5.2. The Km value of the enzyme was found to be 0.26 mg/ml and the molecular weight as determined by SDS-PAGE was approximately 50 kDa.

Seed bacterization by Pseudomonas fluorescens and Pseudomonas aeruginosa alone and in combination with aerial spray of their cell suspension or neemazal, a product of neem (Azadirachta indica) at different concentrations was tried under field conditions to control rust (Uromyces fabae) of Pea (Pisum sativum) through induced resistance in the host. Combination of seed bacterization with either aerial sprays of bacterial cell suspensions or neemazal was more effective in controlling the disease at all concentrations of neemazal than seed bacterization alone. Bacterization by both bacteria, and aerial spray of neemazal increased the dry weight of aerial parts, number of pods and as well as seed weight of pea plants.

In storage and field conditions, Fusarium moniliformae often infect the Amla fruits. Five fungicides which include Bavistin, Captan, Sulfex, Dithane M-45, and Thiram at 50, 250 and 500 ppm concentrations were tested for the radial growth, rot development and the production of cellulolytic and pectolytic enzymes by Fusarium moniliformae in Amla fruits. Complete inhibition of mycelial growth and rot development was observed by Bavistin (50 ppm) and Dithane M-45 (250 ppm). Amongst all the fungicides tested, Bavistin (50 ppm), Dithane M-45 (250 ppm), Captan and Thiram, (500 ppm cone.) could completely control the secretion of cellulolytic and pectolytic enzyme by the test pathogen.

Seeds were presoaked in 0.5-2.0% of nitrate of Sodium and Surface sterilization of various chemicals was compared with freshly prepared 0.1% (w/v) aqueous Mercuric chloride solution. The callus induction medium containing 0.5-4.0 mg/l of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxy acetic acid(2,4-D)alone or in combination with kinetin. The young leaf segments showed maximum efficiency followed by hypocotyls segments and mature leaf segments. In the present study, among the different growth regulators tested for their efficiency of callus induction from young leaf segment, MS medium with 2.0 mg/l,2,4-D and 0.1 mg/l,Kn as proved efficient.

Out of these 73 species, 31 mushroom floras were identified as edible, 3 mushrooms had fair edibility, 11 medicinal mushrooms, 27 non edible and 1 poisonous, frequency of distribution of naturally growing mushroom flora in different districts of M.P. and C.G. revealed that maximum number (47) of fleshy fungi were found in the forest areas of Jabalpur while minimum (17) from the forest areas of Raipur.

The cyanobacterium, Nostoc muscorum, was examined for the caesium toxicity in the diazotrophic growth medium in the presence/absence of Na+/K+. CsCl at a concentration of 2mM was found lethal to the diazotrophically grown cultures. Addition of graded concentration of Na+ and K+ mitigates Cs+ toxicity. The Cs+ toxicity is less when the culture medium supplied with both Na+ and K+, simultaneously. The effect of pH was studied to determine Cs+ toxicity at higher alkaline pH. The examined cyanobacterium showed more sensitivity towards Cs+ when exposed to higher alkaline pH. Hence, it is concluded that Cs+ accumulation and toxicity are closely related to cellular Na+ and K+ status and external pH. The information regarding interaction between Cs+ and other monovalent cations can be helpful in removing and recovering Cs+ from the Cs+-polluted habitats.

Effect of ten selected plant extracts viz., Abrus precatorius, Cedrus deodara, Actinopteris detchoma, Artabotrys hexapetalus, Mallotus philippensis, Ocimum tenuiflorum, Jasminum arboresccns, Moringa oleifera, Peganum harmala and Momordica tuberosa studied on weight of ovary and uterus, level of ascorbic acid and cholesterol of the female rats. Eight plant extracts significantly reduced the weight of ovary as compared to control are in chronological order of A precatorius, J. arborescens, C. deodar, P. harmala, O. tenuiflorum, A. hexapetalus, M. oleifera and M. philippensis, while the two plant extracts viz M. tuberosa and A. detchoma are at par to the control in all the four objects of the evaluation. The same effective eight plant extracts also acknowledged to reduce the weight of uterus although their merit order was slightly changed due to abrupt estrous cycle and could be placed as A. hexapetalus, M. oleifera, A. precatorius, C. deodar, 0. tenuiflorum, P. harmala, J. arborescens and M. philippensis. The increase in ascorbic acid as well as cholesterol was quite significant in treatments with eight plant extracts, the laparatomized females showed the normal internal morphology, except in the case of A. detchoma were the liver was absolutely inactive and pale yellow therefore, it was not at all clinically fit for the anti-fertility activity. Significant reduction in the synthesis of ovarian steroid reduced the weight of ovary and uterus. The six plant extracts viz., A. hexapetalus, M. oleifera, A. precatorius, C. Deodar, P. harmala and J. arborescens caused maximum reduction in ovarian steroidiigfenesis and established themselves to have high potentiality to reduce fertility in transient phase without any harm to vital activities of the body. Elevated level of cholesterol and ascorbic acid content caused hypo functioning of the ovary.

The aqueous and ethanolic extracts of aerial parts of Datura stramonium Lt. and Malvastrum coromandelianum Garcke were evaluated against Alternaria solani (MTCC No.2101), a causal organism of early blight disease in Potato/Tomato and Fusarium udum(MTCC No.2204) causes wilt disease in Arhar. Alternaria solani is found to be more sensitive as compared to Fusarium udum for both the plants. The ethanolic extract of Datura stramonium completely inhibit the growth of A. solani whereas ethanolic extract of Malvastrum and aqueous extract of Datura & Malvastrum showed effective inhibitory activity.

Keratins are the largest and complex family of cytoskeletal intermediate protein of animal cells. Keratins are common, extremely resistance polypeptides. The Keratinophilic fungi colonizing keratinous tissue viz. skin, nail and hair, share certain morphological feature constituting special group called Dermato-phyte. In the present study several Keratinophilic fungi were isolated using baiting technique from sewage soils of Jabalpur city. Some are Fusarium, Aspjsrgillus Microsporum, Epidermatophyton, Trichophyton, Verticillium, and Penicillium etc. These fungi are potentially pathogenic to man and animals.

The study deals with interaction of root zone microflora with Rhizobium of Dalbergia sissoo in laboratory. Rhizosphere microorganisms and Rhizobium were isolated from D.sissoo.Some root zone microorganisms were overlapped the colony of Rhizobium in petriplates and covered the entire colony. Rhizobium did not show antagonistic activity with them. Such overlapping isolates were fast growing and showed high competition in petriplates. They showed synergistic relationship. It is observed that strains of Rhizobium showed an antifungal activity against Fusarium solani and Macrophomina phaseolina.
