Reported the effects of glucose on a novel Belousov-Zhabofinskii (B-Z) system (BrO^-₃-[CuL](ClO₄)₂-malic acid-H₂SO₄ system, where L = 5, 7, 7, 12, 14, 14-hexemethyl-1, 4, 8, 11-tetraazacyclotetradeca-4,11-diene). Experimental results showed that, by the addition of different amount of glucose to the oscillating system, the change of the oscillation amplitude is linearly proportional to the glucose concentration in the range of 2.5 x 10^-3 - 2.5 x 10^-2 M (r = -0.99523). The addition of glucose also caused the change of oscillation period in the same concentration range. The influences of the concentration of the components on the change of the oscillation amplitude, as well as their influences on the change of oscillation period, have been studied in detail. A tentative mechanism to explain the effects of glucose on the oscillation was proposed.

Copper(II) soap complexes were synthesized with the N-donar ligands viz., benzothiozole and phenyl thiourea derived from p-methoxy aniline. These complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, molecular weight, melting point, IR, NMR and ESR spectral studies. In the present study, the solute-solvent interaction was investigated by density, molar volume and apparent molar volume measurements of different copper soap complexes in benzene-methanol mixtures. The critical micelle concentration were found to decrease with increase in average molecular weight of the soap complex. The apparent molar volume was examined in terms of masson equation. The limiting apparent molar volume (φ_v) was interpreted in terms of solute-solvent interaction while limiting slope (Sv) in terms of solute-solute interaction. The studies of various interactions suggest that solute-solvent interaction increases with the increase in carbon composition of fatty acid andlow-ering of molecular weight where as solute-solute interaction decreases.

The soil burial 1 test establishes the inertness of ISP film towards degradation. In the laminates the base 1 polyester film did not show any degradation, which rules out further work on, laminates involving polyester film. The SBP and GSBP films that were delaminated with time have shown degradation.

Rivers Pamba, Achenkovil and Manimala are flowing through Pathanamthitta and Alapuzha districts of Kerala. In recent years, considerable amount of work has been carried out in various lakes and estuaries and a good amount of information is available on the physical, chemical and biological aspects of water and bottom sediments. Attempts have been made to study the hydrography and biology of the river Pamba. But so far, no detailed studies have been made to compare the bioorganics of rivers Pamba, Achenkovil and Manimala. The study is an attempt to compare the bioorganics of rivers Pamba, Achenkovil and Manimala. The bioorganics in the sediments of rivers Pamba, Achenkovil and Manimala were analyzed for a period of one year from January 2007 to December 2007. The bioorganics were found abundant and widely distributed in the sediments and exhibited spatial and temporal variations. Carbohydrates in the sediments were autochthonous in origin. Protein content also resembled to that of carbohydrates. The low lipid concentrations in the sediments suggest the preferential utilization of fatty substances by bacteria and other organisms as their energy source.

Herb essential oil of Ocimum sanctum from Nigeria was investigated for mosquito larvicidal activity and its composition studied by gas chromatography and gas chromato-graphy-mass spectrometry for the first time. A good larvicidal action (LD₅₀ 85.11 ppm) against fourth instar Aedes aegypti mosquitoes which was far less than that of a positive control, endosulphan (LC₅₀, 0.96 ppm) was observed for the oil. Seventeen components representing 88.4 % of total oil were fully identified. Oxygenated monoterpenes (51.1 %) and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (27.5 %) formed the main chemical groups in the oil. The major constituents of the oil were methyleugenol (44.7 %) and isocaryophyllene (16.8 %), which categorise the oil into a different chemical variety.

Several 3-substituted thiophene and pyrole ring-bearing co-polymers was chemically synthesized and their possible usage as sensitlzers was investigated by fabricating solar devices with mesoporous TiO₂ electrodes and a redox liquid electrolyte containing I^-₃/I^-. Monomers of 3-thiophene acetic acid (3TAA), 3-thiophene malonic acid (3TMA), 3-methyl thiophene (3MT), thiophene (T), 3-acetyl thiophene (3AT) and pyrrole (PY) were used as starting materials to obtain their co-polymers. The photocells were able to generate reasonably high photo-current with the addition of ionic liquid 1-methyl-3-n-hexylimidazolium iodide to the electrolyte. The corresponding values obtained for short-circuit current densities and efficiencies of the cells sensitized with poly 3TAA, poly 3TAA-poly 3TMA, poly 3TAA-poly 3MT, poly 3TAA-poly 3AT, poly 3TAA-poly T and poly 3TAA-poly PY were 4.35, 3.29, 3.12, 2.97, 2.25, 1.85 mA cm^-2 and 1.2, 0.76, 0.76, 0.51, 0.42, 0.41 respectively.

Two new mixed ligand complexes of Fe(III) and Cu(II) with catechol and benzil ligands have been prepared and characterized. The probable structures of the complexes have been elucidated on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductance, thermogravimetric analysis, magnetic moments, infrared, electron paramagnetic resonance, electronic adsorption and mass spectra. The elemental analysis data reveal the formation of 2:1:1 [M:L¹:L²] complexes. The molar conductance measurements show the presence of a non-electrolytic nature. The thermogravimetric analysis data of both complexes display the existence of hydrated and coordinated water molecules. The magnetic moments exhibit a paramagnetic resonance spectra of the complexes under investigation show the existence of a paramagnetic phenomena which support their geometrical structures. The infrared spectral data were agreed with the coordination sites of the free ligand with the central metal ion through -OH and C=O groups. The electronic adsorption spectral results display the electronic transitions of the ligand and suggest an octahedral-structure for Fe(III) complex and a square planar geometry for Cu(II) complex. The mass spectrum of Fe(III) complex shows the fragmentation process (m/e⁺) for this complex.

Amberlite XAD-4 copolymer resin modified by rubeanic acid was synthesized for separation and preconcentration of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II)), Cd (II) and Mn(II). The optimization procedure for analytical parameters including pH, contact time, batch capacity, etc. was examined in order to obtain quantitative recoveries of metal ions. Preconcentration yields of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(H), Cd (II) and Mn(II) by Amberlite XAD-4-dithioethylenediamine copolymer resin were found as 103.3 ±2.6, 96.8 ± 1.7,102.0 ±3.0, 90.3 ± 1.7 and 97.2 ± 2.4 %, respectively. Batch capacity of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cd(II) and Mn(II) by Amberlite XAD-4-dithioethylenediamine copolymer resin was determined as 0.1243 ± 0.0036, 0.2057 ± 0.0034, 0.2323 ± 0.0043, 0.1757 ± 0.0025 and 0.1888 ± 0.0034 mmol g^-1 resin, respectively. The preconcentration factor was 500 for Cu (II), Co (II), Ni(II), Cd(II) and Mn(II).

Indian soils are generally deficient in organic matter and total nitrogen. To meet nitrogen deficiency nitrogenous fertilizers are added to soils. All added nitrogen is not utilized by the crops and plants. All over the world farmers have observed that the recovery of nitrogen from fertilizers and maneuver in manure crop productions is usually low and of the order of 25-30 %. Nitrogen is lost through various ways such as erosions, leaching, gaseous loss denitrification and chemo denitrification. Soil erosion shows that the quantity of nitrogen removed in runoff water every year varies from 0.13 1b. to 0.53 1b per acre. It is evident that the nitrogen loss follows the first order non-reversible kinetic model in exposed sets (in light). However in covered sets (in dark) there is a departure from linearity. It is evident that the velocity constants are lower for mixed fertilizers than for nitrogen substance alone. The values of velocity constants for mixed fertilizers have been calculated only for the time period up to which the kinetic plots are linear representative. The average values of K x 10³ (d^-1) are 1.470 (± 0.12) in light and 2.359 (± 0.18) in dark for 0.2 % N + 1 % C + 0.5 % K and 0.25 % P concentrations. The average value of K x 10³ (d^-1) of 0.2 % concentration of nitrogen is 4.442 (± 0.36).

The polyblend film of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), in the weight ratio 2: 1 were prepared by using 1.0 gm. of PVC and 0.5 gm. of PMMA. Polyaniline (PAN/) has been used as a dopant with 0.2% of the total weight of the two polymers. The TSDC studies of doped polyblends of thickness 60f.1m have been carried out at the various poling fields viz. 10 kV/cm, 15 kV/cm, 20 kV/cm, 25 kV/cm and 30 kV/cm by using constant value of poling temperature (T_p) 353 K. In general it has been observed that the peak TSDC current (In) at given poling temperature (T_p) increases with the magnitude of poling field strength. In the present sample only single peak was observed around 408 K. The effect of fields of polarization and constant polarization temperature on TSDC peaks indicates that the polarization in the blend may be due to the charge carrier trapping in the deep traps, which leads to the induced dipole formation. The phenomenon of existence of TSDC peaks has been analyzed and discussed.

The enzyme, having the specific activity of 1.896 EU/mg proteins, was purified with a yield of 57.6 % and 124.08 fold at 4 °C. Stable pH, optimum pH, optimum temperature, subunit molecular weight, native form molecular weight, K_m and v_max values for NADP⁺ and glucose 6- phosphate (G6-P) substrates were also determined for the enzyme. Enzymatic activity was spectro-photometrically measured according to Beutler's method at 340 nm.

Anise (Pimpinella anisum L.) and fennel (Foeniculum vulgaris M.) essential oils are commercially available in the local Egyptian market. They were analyzed by GC and GC-MS spectrometry. The main components of anise oil were; trans-anethole (61.7 %), alfa-longipinene (10.1 %), cis-anethole (7.3 %), cyclosativene (5.2 %), isoledene (3.4 %) and safrol (2.4 %), while those of fennel essential oil were; c/-limonene (34.6 %), frara-anethole (13.6 %), t/-carvone (11 %), cis- sabinene hydrate (5.9 %), fenchone (3.9 %), p-longipinene (2.5 %), 1,8-cineol (2.0 %) and apiol (1.2 %). Their biological activities, including free radical scavenging, antimicrobial, deoxy ribonucleic acid (DMA) and protein cleaving were tested, in addition to their hypoglycaernic effect. rrara-Anethole as an individual major component in both essential oils was also tested. The effect of the photo-oxygenation reaction on both oils was studied. The results revealed variation of the tested biological activities of the regular and the photo-oxygenated oils. This could be explained in terms of the formed oxygenated products.

Synthetic HCI-doped polyaniline (particle size≈0.20 mm) has been used for the removal and recovery of Cr(VI) from contaminated wastewater. Batch experiments were performed as a function of pH, contact time, temperature and adsorbent dose. Column experiments were executed for the treatment of industrial effluent. The optimum range of pH, contact time and temperature were found to be 2-3, 40-50 min and 23-27°C respectively. The adsorption kinetic data could be described well by pseudo second order reaction. The adsorption isotherm data at 25±2°C obey the Toth model best. The mono-layer adsorption capacity was 22.2 mg of Cr(VI) per gram of doped polyaniline at 4.75 pH and 25°C. Chromium(VI) loaded polyaniline (PAN/) could be desorbed up to 85% with 2.5M Na OH. The reuse of regenerated column showed a decrease (5-6%) in breakthrough capacity PANI packed column was used for the recovery of Cr(VI) from contaminated industrial waste effluent.

A method has been developed for simultaneous separation and determination of seven important silymarin flavonoids by HPLC and LC-ESI/MS. The separation was completed on an ODS column using 1 % aqueous acetic acid solution and methanol as mobile phase with gradient elution. The methanol is better than acetonitrile as the organic modifier in mobile phase for separation of diastereomers of silybin (silybin A and silybin B) and diastereomers of isosilybin (isosilybin A and isosilybin B) was explained from the viewpoint of molecules interaction. The content of silybin and silymarin in Silybum marianum seed, defatted seed meal and standardized extract were determined with satisfactory recovery and precision. Furthermore, the extraction rate of silymarin flavonoids in Silybum marianum seed with boiling water was evaluated on the basis of the well-verified quantitative method. It is found that more polar flavonoids such as taxifolin and silychristin have good solution in water and the total extraction rates of seven times were more than 85 %, and the solubility of other silymarin flavonoids is relatively low, but the total extraction rates were all more than 30 % for seven times of extraction. Results of the study are in excellent agreement with those of batch extraction with hot water.

The conventional and microwave synthesis of twenty eight 4-amino-5-substituted aryl-3-mercapto-(4H)-1,2,4-triazoles (V) were studied and compared. Methyl esters'of the substituted benzoic acid (II) were made to its respective hydrazides (III) by treating with hydrazine hydrate. These hydrazides were then treated with alcoholic potassium hydroxide and carbon disulphide to obtain the respective aryl dithiocarbazinic acid salts (IV). These salt were cyclized under conventional and microwave condition separately to the corresponding 4-amino-5-aryl-3-mercapto-(4H)-l,2,4-triazole. The structures of final compounds (V) were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR and ¹H NMR.

Snfface indications of uranium mineralisation associated with ferruginised brecciated rocks is traceable, intermittently, over a strike length of 25 km, exposed along the Jamual - Markundi Fault (JMF), at the tectonic contact of Neo- to Meso-Proterozoic Vindhyan Supergroup and Paleo-Proterozoic Mahakoshal Group between Gurdah and Mohariya, Sonbhadra and Sidhi districts of U.P. and M.P. respectively. Preliminary investigations reveal uranium (U₃O₈) content upto 610 ppm with little or no ThO₂. Uranium occurs in adsorbed state in the ferruginised groundmass of brecciated rock and probably related to hydrothermal activity. This is the first reported uranium occurrence from this unconformity related geological set up in the Son valley.

Oxytocin is a cyclic octapeptide hormone released by the posterior pituitary and having uterotonic and galctagenic activity in mammals. In cows oxytocin is injected to stimulate uterine contractions and allow for easy flow of milk. Study was carried out to validate a method for the determination of oxytocin in cow milk by liquid chromatography-mass spectro-metric (LC/MS/MS system). The method was in-house validated in term of detection limit (LOD), quantification limit (LOQ), linearity, sensitivity, accuracy and recovery in milk. Oxytocin was isolated from milk by solid phase extraction followed by extraction with HPLC. Oxytocin was determined by mass spectrometer using turbo ion spray source in the negative mode. The multiple reaction monitoring procedure has been applied and the ion transitions were: m/z 1005 > 939 (for quantification) and 1005 > 489 (for qualification). It was found out that oxytocin can be quantitated and confirmed at the 1 IU/L level in milk. At these levels trueness ranged between 85 to 101 % and reproducibility was lower than 15 % expressed as RSD. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification of this method were 1.0 IU/L, 2.0 IU/L respectively.

The method was based on the formation of a reddish brown chromogen with 0.01 N potassium dichromate and concentrated Hydrochloric acid. The reddish brown colored chromogen formed in method may be due to the oxidation of the amino group present in the quinolone ring of the drug by oxidizing agents like potassium dichromate. The absorption maximum for the above method was found to be 540. The chromogen formed obeyed beer's law in the concentration range of 50 - 400 meg/ml. The developed method was validated as per the FDA guidelines.

For these compounds, DFT method studies have been performed. They were based on (E_HOMO),. (E_LUMO) and the difference (E_LUMO-E_HOMO). The correlation between these two parameters (theoretical and experimental) was shown to be in good agreement for some cases.

Cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) was modified with a mixture of styrene, methyl methacrylate (MMA) and butyl Acrylate (BA) (20:20:60 % w/w respectively) to form a modified CNSL-Acrylic product. The resin thus formed was subsequently blended with ketonic (Cyciohexanone formaldheyde) resin at various w/w ratios to obtain modified CNSL-Acrylic-Ketonic coating blends. The performance of the coatings thus obtained was evaluated, with respect to their physicomechanical properties. The coating properties of different blend ratios from 100:00 to 00: 100% w/w of modified CNSL-Acrylic- Ketonic resin blend were studied. It was observed that the 60:40% w/w blend ratio of the resins showed- notable improvement in coating properties over those of individual resins.

Products were recrystallized from benzene. Synthesis of 4,6-dicinnamoyl resorcinols under microwave irradiation is found much easier and faster than conventional method.

Chemical composition of the essential oil obtained from Plazia daphnoides growing in the High Valley Region of Bolivia, Province of Cochabamba, was determined by a combination of GC and GC-MS measurements. The composition of the oil was dominated by oxygenated sesquiterpenes (33 %) and sesquiterpenes (30 %): T-cadinol and β-caryophyllene were the main components (10-11% each) followed by epi-α-bisabolol (9 %). Oxygenated monoterpenes accounted for 14 % and monoterpenes for 11%.

The Ninhydrin Method is based on reaction of lamivudine with Ninhydrin to form a colored compound. The Ascorbic acid method is based on reaction of Lamivudine with Ascorbic acid to form a purple colored compound. The PBQ Method is based on- the reaction of Lamivudine condenses with carbonyl group cf PBQ to form the condensation product. These Methods exhibits maximum absorption at 580 nm, 535 nm, 395 nm respectively and obeys the Beer's law in the concentration range of 5-60 meg/ml, 5-80 meg/mi, and 10-60 meg/ml respectively. The Methods have been statistically evaluated and were found to be precise and accurate. The proposed Methods are economical and sensitive for the estimation of Lamivudine in the bulk drug and in its formulations.

A simple, precise, rapid and accurate reverse phase HPLC method developed for the estimation of Atomoxetine in capsule dosage form. A Xterra KP18 150 x 4.6 mm, 5 m partical size, with mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and 0.03 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate (pH adjusted to 3.0±0.05 with orthophosphoric acid) in the ratio of 40:60 v/v was used. The flow rate was 1 ml/min and the effluents were monitored at 220 nm. The retention time was 3.185 min. The detector response was linear in the concentration of 5-80 meg/ml. The respective linear regression equation being Y= 21766x + 43505.05. The limit of detection and limit of quantification was 0.1 and 1.0 meg/ml respectively. The percentage assay of Atomoxetine was 99.77%. The method was validated by determining its accuracy, precision and system suitability. The results of the study showed that the proposed RP-HPLC method is simple, rapid, precise and accurate, which is useful for the routine determination of Atomoxetine in bulk drug and in its pharmaceutical dosage form.

Three simple, rapid and accurate spectrophotometric methods were developed for the determination of mefenamic acid. The first method (Method I) is based on the reaction of mefenamic acid as N-donor with p-chloranilic acid as a π-acceptor. A red colour product shows peak at 520 nm and its absorbance is linear with concentration over the range 10-300 μg/mL with correlation coefficient (n = 12) of 0.9997. The second method (method II) involves oxidation of mefenamic acid with N-bromosuccinamide. A yellow colour product shows peak at 362 nm and its absorbance is linear with concentration over the range 5-70 μg/mL with correlation coefficient (n = 8) of 0.9999. The third method (method III) is based on the formation of an oxidative coupling product by the reaction of mefenamic acid with 3-methylbenzo-thiazolin-2-one hydrazone as a chromogenic reagent in presence of ferric chloride solution. A green colour product shows peak at 602 nm and its absorbance is linear with concentration over the range 1-6 μg/mL with correlation coefficient (n = 6) of 0.9999. The different parameters affecting the reaction pathway were thoroughly studied and optimized. The developed methods could be successfully applied to the determination of mefenamic acid in either pure form and in pharmaceutical formulations. The results obtained were in good agreement with those obtained using official methods.

The essential oil of dried leaves of Moroccan and Tunisian Juniperus phoenicea (Cupressaceae) was isolated by direct hydrodistillation (Clevenger-type apparatus) and analyzed using GC (FID) and GC-MS. Forty five compounds in Moroccan oil (72 % of the oil) and thirty one compounds in Tunisian oil (99 % of the oil) were identified. The most abundant compounds in J. phoenicea oils were alfa-pinene (35.46, 38.20 %) and δ-3-carene (7.6,11.69 %) respectively. Essential oil of Tunisian jumper is characterized by a high percentage of δ-3-carene and limonene with respectively 11.69 %, 10.29 % in comparison to 7.6 % and 1.1 % for the Moroccan juniper. The sesquiterpenes fraction is more abundant in Tunisian juniper with a significant percent of β-selinene (7.32 %), followed by beta-caryophy llene (4.76 %) and α-cubebene (4.15 %).

The stability constants are reported at 26 ± 0.5°C in 0.1 M (NaClO₄) ionic strength and compared with stabilities of corresponding Co(II)-amino acids binary complexes. 2,3-Di(p-methylphenyl)tetrazole-5-thione has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, electronic absorption spectra and X-ray single crystal diffraction. Density functional theory method calculations at B3LYP/6-31G* level of the structure, atomic charges distribution, vibration frequencies and the thermodynamic properties at different temperatures have been performed and the results show that the exocyclic sulfur atom has the biggest negative charge values and this site is the most likely site of protonation and methylation as well as the potential coordination site with metallic ions. The calculation of the second order optical nonlinearity has been carried out, and the molecular hyperpolarizability is 13.994 x 10^-30 esu, indicating that 2,3-di(p-methylphenyl)tetrazole-5-thione is a good candidate as second-order nonlinear optical material.

Formation constants, K, as well as other thermodynamic parameters, ΔH°, ΔS° and ΔG° of adducts were determined by UV-Vis titration method. Adducts have negative values of ΔH°, ΔS° and ΔG°. Adducts stabilities decrease in the order: H₂T(4-OCH₃)PP > H₂T(4-CH₃)PP > H₂TPP > H₂T(4-C1)PP.

Compared with classical methods, this method has the advantages of high yields, short reaction time, easy preparation. The preliminary biological test showed that the synthesized compound has weak activity to G. zeae Fetch, B. cinerea Pers, Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary, Botryosphaeria berengeriana f. sp. piricola (Nose) koganezawa et Sakuma, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cucumerinum and Cercospora arachidicola. Correlations for estimation of the aqueous solubility (1n S) of aliphatic alcohols are proposed. The high-order MCI (molecular connectivity index) based quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) models are obtained by stepwise regression and support vector regression. On the basis of the data set of 50 aliphatic alcohols, the optimal linear model obtained by stepwise regression has a correlation coefficient of 0.990 and an average absolute error of 0.149 1n units and is comparable with the existing models. The optimal nonlinear model obtained by support vector regression has a correlation coefficient of 0.996 and an average absolute error of 0.116 1n units and is better than the existing models. The new models are predictive and easy to apply for it requires only connectivity indices in the calculations and does not require any experimental physicochemical properties in the calculation.

A series of phenylalkene hydroxamic acids ahve been synthesized by acylation of hydroxylamine with substituted acyl chlorides of the substituted cinnamic acids. The substituted cinnamic acids were prepared from substituted benzaldehydes by emphasizing knoevengel reaction. The title compounds were screened for antioxidant activity, in vitro. Compounds A₇, A₁₀, A₁₁ exhibited most significant activity amongst all the evaluated compounds. Compound A₁₀ showed lowest IC₅₀ value (8.668 mM) ad A₅ showed highest IC₅₀ value (954.734 mM).

The photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-dinitrophenol over ZnO was carried out in the presence of light. Control experiments were carried out. The photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-dinitrophenol was observed spectro-photmerically. The various parameters like concentrations of substrate, pH, amounts and band gaps of semiconductor, impact of light intensity, sensitizers and radical quenchers affected the kinetics of the degradation process. A probable mechanism for this process has been proposed.

Complexes of the general formula, M[C₆H₄{OCH₂C(O) NH(N)=CHR}₂ (AcO)₂]_n [where M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) and R = -C₆H₄OH, -C₆H₄CH₃ and -C₆H₅] were prepared by the reaction of divalent metal acetates with respective hydro-quinone bis-(acetylhydrazide-2-arylaldehyde). These complexes have been characterized on the basis of the elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility and infrared spectral studies. The magnetic moment data indicate an octahedral geometry for the metal complexes.
