To improve C sequestration in soils and mitigate climate change, it is essential to understand how nutrient management strategies impact on soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks and labile fractions. Compared to conventional tillage, conservation tillage (no-tillage coupled with straw return) increased water-stable large macro-aggregates (>2 mm) by 35.18 %, small macro-aggregates (2–0.25 mm) by 33.52 % and micro-aggregates by 25.10 % in the topsoil (0–20 cm). The subsoil (20–40 cm) also showed the same trend. Compared to conventional tillage without straw return, large and, small macro-aggregates and micro-aggregates in conservation tillage were increased by 24.52 %, 28.48 % and 18.12 %, respectively. Straw return also caused a significant increase in aggregate-associated carbon (aggregateassociated C). No-tillage coupled with straw return had more total aggregate-associated C within all the aggregate fractions in the topsoil. But the different is that conventional tillage with straw return resulted in more aggregate-associated C than conservation tillage in the subsoil. A considerable proportion of the SOC was found to be stocked in the small macro-aggregates under both topsoil (74.56 %) and subsoil (67.09 %). Tillage systems can changes in soil organic carbon dynamics and soil microbial biomass by changing aggregate formation and C distribution within the aggregate. Wheat straw ditch-buried returning (WD) had significantly higher total organic carbon than did wheat straw returning with ploughing (WP) and no straw returning (CK) in wheat season. Soil dissolved organic carbon and easily oxidizable carbon contents were significantly increased by 21.3 %, 24.3 %, 38.6 %, and 43.5 % under wheat straw returning with rotary tillage (WR) than that under CK in rice and wheat seasons, respectively. Soil microbial biomass carbon (MBC) content was highest under WP in rice season, but in wheat season, WR had significantly higher MBC than WP and WD. The content of SOC in WSAma increased on average in the following order: T < G < G+NPK1 < G+NPK3 < T+FYM. Intensive soil cultivation in the T treatment resulted in a statistically significant build-up of SOC in WSAma at an average rate of 1.33, 1.18, 0.97, 1.22 and 0.76 g/kg/y across the size fractions > 5 mm, 5‒3 mm, 2‒1 mm, 1‒0.5 mm and 0.5‒0.25 mm, respectively. The content of non-labile carbon reflected the contents of SOC in WSA. The highest labile carbon (CL) in WSAma, as compared to others, was found in T+FYM. Overall, application of higher NPK doses resulted in higher content of CL in WSAma compared with the lower applications of NPK. On the other hand, lower applications of NPK to soil increased the content of CL in WSAmi, as compared to G+NPK3. However, higher SOC content of 8.14 gkg-1 of soil was found in reduced tilled residue retained plots followed by 10.34 g kg-1 in furrow irrigated raised beds with residue retained plots. Whereas, the lowest level of SOC content of 5.49 gkg-1 of soil were found in puddled transplanted rice followed by wheat planted under conventionally tilled plots. Average SOC concentration of the control treatment was 0.54 %, which increased to 0.65 % in the RDF treatment and 0.82 % in the RDF+FYM treatment. Compared to F1control treatment the RDF+FYM treatment sequestered 0.33 Mg C ha-1yr-1 whereas the NPK treatment sequestered 0.16 Mg Cha-1yr-1 . Long term conservation tillage significantly increased 66.1 %, 57.9 %, 50.9 %,38.3 %,37.3 % and 32 % LFOC, SOC, PON, TN, LFON, DOC and POC, over conventional tillage (T7) treatment and WSC 39.6 % in surface soil and 37.4 % in subsurface soil. Under RWCS, TOC contents were similar in 50 % RDN as CF+50 % RDN as GM/SPM (F6) and1/3rdN as CF+1/3rdN as FYM+1/3rdN as GM/SPM (F7) and 75 % RDN as CF+25% RDN as FYM (F3) plots and significantly higher than those in control (no manure and fertilizer) (F1) plots (by 50.4 % 48.3 %, and 43.3 % respectively).

Soil organic carbon (SOC) and its fractions (labile and non-labile) including particulate organic carbon (POC) and its components [coarse POC and fine POC], light fraction organic carbon (LFOC), readily oxidizable organic carbon, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) are important for sustainability of any agricultural production system as they govern most of the soil properties, and hence soil quality and health. Being a food source for soil microorganisms, they also affect microbial activity. Tillage regimes that contribute to greater aggregation also improved soil microbial activity. Soil OC and MBC were at their highest levels for 1.0–2.0 mm aggregates, suggesting a higher biological activity at this aggregate size for the ecosystem. Compared with CT treatments, NT treatments increased MBC by11.2 %, 11.5 %, and 20 %, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration by 15.5 % 29.5 %, and 14.1 % of bulk soil, >0.25 mm aggregate, and <0.25 mm aggregate in the 0−5 cm soil layer, respectively. The portion of 0.25–2 mm aggregates, mean weight diameter (MWD) and geometric mean diameter (GMD) of aggregates from ST and NT treatments were larger than from CT at both 0–15- and 15–30-cm soil depths. Positive significant correlations were observed between SOC, labile organic C fractions, MWD, GMD, and macro-aggregate (0.25–2 mm) C within the upper 15 cm. Moreover, NT treatments significantly increased SOC concentration of bulk soil, >0.25 aggregate, and 0.25 mm aggregate (11.3 %), and <0.25 mm aggregate (14.1 %) than NS treatments. Compared with CT treatments, NT treatments increased MBC by 11.2 %, 11.5 %, and 20 %, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentration by 15.5 %, 29.5 %, and 14.1 % of bulk soil, >0.25 mm aggregate, and <0.25 mm aggregate in the 0−5 cm soil layer, respectively. Compared with NS treatments, S treatments significantly increased MBC by 29.8 %, 30.2 %, and 24.1 %, and DOC concentration by 23.2 %, 25.0 %, and 37.5 % of bulk soil,>0.25 mm aggregate, and <0.25 mm aggregate in the 0−5 cm soil layer, respectively. In conclusion, soil organic carbon fractions (SOC), and microbial biomasses in the macro-aggregates are more sensitive to conservation tillage (CT) than in the micro-aggregates. Soil aggregation regulates the distributions of SOC and microbial parameters in Typic Ustochrept soil.

A field experiment was conducted to investigate the combined effect of NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potash) on the yield and uptake of Barnyard Millet Grain (Echinochloa frumentacea (Roxb.) Link) in Typic Rhodulstalf soil, Rabi 2017. The objective of study was to determine the optimum rate of NPK for barnyard miller. The thrice replicated treatments T1:absolute control (without NPK), T2:40-15-15 (NPK), T3:40-20-15 (NPK), T4:40-25-15 (NPK), T5:50-15-15 (NPK), T6:50-20-15 (NPK), T7:50-25-15 (NPK), T8:60-15-7.5 (NPK), T9:60-20-7.5 (NPK), T10:60-25-7.5 (NPK), T11:60-15-15 (NPK), T12:60-20-15 (NPK) and T13:60-25-15 (NPK) kg ha-1 were tested in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The results revealed that maximum growth parameters responded significantly to NPK fertilizers. It is concluded that highest grain yield of 2019 kg ha-1 was recorded with the application of 60-20-15 NPK kg ha-1 . The increase in yield was 40.8 % higher as compared to control (1196 kg ha-1 ), where no fertilizer was used.

Present research work entitled “Studies on In-vitro efficacy of chemicals against major fungi associated with post-harvest rot of tomato” was conducted at the Department of Plant Pathology, college of Agriculture, Badnapur and Agriculture Research Station, Badnapur, Dist- Jalna (VNMKV, Parbhani ), M.S. during the year 2017-18. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomised Design-CRD, with three replications and five treatments. The present investigation was carried out to evaluate effect of different chemical like boric acid, calcium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and potassium chloride were tested in-vitro separately at 1 % and 2 % concentrations on mycelial growth of major fungi associated with tomato rot. Calcium chloride and Boric acid at both concentration 1 & 2 % were found most effective in inhibit the mycelial growth of Alternaria solani, Aspergillus niger and Rhizopus stolonifer, while least inhibition of these fungi was observed with Potassium chloride and Sodium bicarbonate Colletotrichum gloeosporioides gave least growth in treatment of Potassium chloride and Boric acid at 1 % while at 2 % Calcium chloride inhibited the maximum growth of C. gloeosporioides followed by Potassium chloride, while the least average mycelial inhibition was recorded with Sodium bicarbonate and Boric acid 87.64 %.

An experiment was conducted to assess the responses of different combinations of FYM, vermicompost, PSB, Azotobacter, nitrogenous sources (calcium nitrate and urea) along with Jeevamrut during 2015- 2017 on full grown (20 years) apricot trees of New Castle cultivar, planted at a distance of 5 × 5 m. The experiment had fourteen treatments with three replicates. It has been found that different treatments had a sighificant effect on fruit quality parameters. Maximum fruit length, fruit firmness and fruit breadth, fruit suture, fruit weight and fruit volume was recorded with the application of 50 % N (CN) + 50 % N (Urea) + Azotobacter + PSB + Vermicompost and 0 % N (CN) + 50 % N (Urea) + Azotobacter + PSB + Vermicompost, respectively. While, maximum TSS, TSS/acid ratio, total sugars (11.45 %), reducing sugars and minimum titratable acidity was recorded under 50 % N (CN) + 50 % N (Urea) + Azotobacter + PSB + FYM]. Also, maximum yield was recorded with application of 50 % N (CN) + 50 % N (Urea) + Azotobacter + PSB + Vermicompost during the present course of study.

The present experiment was undertaken to understand the impact of high temperature on yield and its attributing traits and to select heat stress tolerant parents and cross combinations for future breeding programme. To fulfill the requirement of this objective, the experiment was conducted in two environments i.e. normal and heat stress, with 10 diverse genotypes, their 45 F1’s and F2’s. In the present study, the Heat Susceptibility Index value of parents and crosses for different quantitative characters was calculated and genotypes were classified in to four different categories i.e. highly heat tolerant, heat tolerant, moderately heat tolerant and heat susceptible. From the result of heat susceptibility index (HSI), it could be visualized that the parents RD-2035, RD-2052 and RD-2508 were found most desirable for most of the characters under heat stress environment. Among the crosses, RD-2052XRD-2503, RD2052XRD-2786, RD-2503XRD-2794, RD-2503XRD-2592, RD-2503XRD-2715, RD-2794XRD-2660 and RD-2592XRD-2508 were found most suitable as they attained top ranks for more than two yield contributing characters and could be utilized as a promising breeding material for the development of new set of thermal/heat stress tolerant barley varieties.

The performance of twenty phenotypically superior trees in the natural distribution zones of Uttar Pradesh were studied for genetic divergence. Based on the relative magnitude of D2 values, twenty superior trees progenies were grouped into eight clusters on the basis of morphological and biomass traits. Cluster V exhibited the highest number of five superior tree progenies. Cluster V exhibited maximum intra cluster distance (4.79) indicating that progenies in this cluster were more diverse than the other clusters. The maximum inter cluster D2 value was obtained between cluster VI and VII (9.21). The clustering pattern in this study revealed that superior tree progenies from different geographic region were grouped together in a cluster and vice-versa suggesting that geographical diversity did not necessarily represent the genetic diversity. The contribution of different traits towards diversity revealed that seedling height contributed the maximum towards divergence. The study also showed that the phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was higher than the corresponding genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the morphological and biomass traits which revealed that the traits were sensitive to environmental fluctuations. The traits with low genetic gain and high heritability indicate that the expression is possibly controlled by intra and inter allelic interactions. The hybridization between the more diverse genotypes of Melia dubia can produce genotypes with high heterotic vigor.

A field experiment conducted to assess the influence of nitrogen (N) management practices through neem coated urea (NCU) on phosphorus (P), potassium (K) uptake and distribution in different plant parts (leaf, stem and panicle), grain yield and soil chemical properties of transplanted rice. The results indicated that application of NCU at 125 % recommended dose of N (RDN) with 50:25:25 split schedule at basal (B), active tillering (AT) and panicle initiation (PI) stages resulted in higher P, K uptake and distribution to leaf, stem and panicle at harvest than the application of prilled urea at 100 % RDN with the same split schedule (existing practice). Further, the increment in grain yield was 10.95 % higher than the existing practice. The significantly higher available soil nitrogen (226 kg ha-1 ) was recorded with of NCU at 125 % recommended dose of N (RDN) with 33.3:33.3:33.3 split schedule at B, AT and PI stages.

Germination and seedling emergence are the critical stages in the plant life cycle. Insufficient seedling emergence and inappropriate stand establishment are the main constraints in the production of crops. Under various adverse conditions and late sowing cereal crops are affected like late sowing of wheat generally experience terminal heat stress which adversely affects crop growth and yield. Seed soaking with water in cereal crops especially wheat and rice has been found to be better in mitigating the detrimental effect of adverse climatic conditions. Pre-germinated seeds and seed priming is helpful in early germination and reducing the risk of poor stand establishment. On the other hand, good crop establishment increases competitiveness against weeds, increase yield and avoids the need for re-sowing that is costly too.

Total forty six genotypes of black gram were studied at College of Agriculture, Indore (M.P.). Wide differences found between PCV and GCV in respect of yield and yield attributing traits. Based on the estimates of genetic divergence through Mahalanobis’ D2 – statistic, total forty six genotypes of black gram were grown at College of Agriculture, Indore (M.P.) and grouped into 12 different clusters. Highest intra-cluster distance of 2.148 was observed for cluster I which comprises of five genotypes. Cluster II which contained one genotype, had lowest intra-cluster distance. The maximum inter-cluster distance of 9.900 was recorded between cluster V and cluster II. A cross between these two inter-cluster’s genotypes is expected to give a heterotic hybrid and wide spectrum of variability. The lowest inter-cluster distance of 2.333 was recorded between cluster IX and VIII. Highest intra-cluster distance & lowest inter-cluster distance indicates that the genotypes of these clusters were genetically less diverse and were almost with same genetic makeup or follows more or less same evolutionary phases during development. The cluster I (KU7-522, KU7-619, KU7-626, KU7-608 and IVU-486) had lowest mean value for earliness flower initiation, 50 % flowering and maturity could be used to develop short duration black gram varieties; cluster III (KU7-632, KU8-611, KU8-612 and KU8-532) for dwarf plant type; cluster X (KU3-62, JU-840 and TPU-4) for tall plant type; cluster II (KU8-632) and cluster IV (KU7-320 and KU8-278) for more number of primary branches per plant, number of seeds per plant, number of pods per plant, biological yield per plant and seed yield per plant; cluster VI (RBU-466-D, KU8-476, JU-86, TYPE-9 and IVU-466-D) for seed weight that may be used as bold seeds. To improve any particular trait, donor may be selected from these clusters for hybridization program to evolve high yielding strains.

Weed management is a major bottleneck in guava nurseries as the weeds hinder the healthy seedling production. No doubt the herbicide is easy and handy tool for weed management but the excessive use of herbicides have well documented environmental issues. Thus alternate weed management practices are the need of hour for better management of weeds in fruit nurseries. Study was conducted at Punjab Agricultural University, Regional Research Station, Bathinda during 2016 and 2017, to assess the efficacy of different weed management methods on weed control and growth of guava seedlings in nursery. The treatments were Pendemethlin@1.5 l/acre as pre emergence weedicide, paddy straw mulch, black polythene mulch, white polythene mulch, maintenance of weed free seedling through hand weeding. Plots with no weed control practices were kept as control so as to compare the efficacy of different treatments. The results revealed a significant effect of different treatments on grassy as well as broad-leaf weeds in the nursery. Black polythene mulch effectively controlled the weeds and improved seedling survival percentage (95.15 %) compared to control recording minimum survival of seedlings (80.7 %).White polythene was poor performer (83.1 %) as compared to other treatments due to the heavy weed growth under the mulch and low durability of these sheets resulting in tearing of polythene sheets. Pendemethlin as a pre emergence weedicide @1.5 l/ acre was also effective in reducing the weed incidence but resurgence of weeds resulted in significantly higher weed biomass compared to other treatments. Use of black polythene mulch resulted in low weed density (1.1 m2 ) compared to other treatments. The black polythene sheet mulch proved to be effective tool for management of weeds in guava nursery.

A field experiment was carried out on comparative basis in Apple orchards of village Kanelwan of District Anantnag, during the year 2017 and 2018. The two orchards selected were managed on two contrasting aspects of cultivation. The conventional orchard was cultivated on the basis of recommendation from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir, however, the organic orchard was managed totally on organic basis of cultivation. The conventional orchard of apple was treated with Nitrogen (100 ppm, 200 ppm and 300 pmm), Phosphorous (30 ppm, 40, ppm and 50 ppm) and Potassium (100 ppm, 150 ppm and 200 ppm) nano- fertilizers, while the organic apple orchard was treated with Humic acid (0.05 %, 0.10 % and 0.15 %) and Fulvic acid (1.5 %, 2.5 % and 3.5 %). The experiment was conducted in Randomized Completely Blocked Design replicated thrice. The foliar application of N, P and K nano fertilizers and Humic and Fulvic acid was done at two stages to meet the fertilizer requirements, one just before the pink bud stage and the other just before the pea size stage of apple. The maximum yield was recorded under conventional orchard was recorded in N application @ 300 ppm in both the years (28.15 and 29.89 tons/ha respectively), furthermore, under organic apple cultivation application of Humic acid @ 0.15 % recorded highest yield (19.96 and 20.97 tons/ha respectively). The economic assessment of the experiment revealed that application of P nano fertilizer @ 50 ppm resulted in highest net B:C ratio of 6.31 and application of humic acid @ 0.15 % recorded highest B:C ratio of 5.51. The experimental results of the present study predicted that application of nano-fertilizers in conventional system and humic and fulvic acid in organic system will result in increased yield and returns.

An expriment entitled “Effect of organic manures, bio-fertilizers, levels of nitrogen and phosphorus on soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill]” was conducted during 2014-15 at Tribal Research cum Training Centre, Anand Agricultural University, Devagadh Baria, Dist. Dahod, Gujarat. The soil of the experimental site was sandy loam in texture, free from any kind of salinity or sodicity hazards, having low in organic carbon and nitrogen, medium in available phosphorus and high in potassium. The experiment consisted of sixteen treatment combinations each of two organic manures (vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 and FYM @10 t ha-1 ), levels of nitrogen (22.5 and 45 kg N ha-1 ), levels of phosphorus (30 and 60 kg P2O5 ha-1 ) and biofertilizers (No biofertilizer and Rhizobium + PSB). The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with factorial concept. The soybean variety NRC-37 was used in the experiment as a test crop. Significantly the highest seed yield (1760 kg ha-1 , 1809 kg ha-1 and 1843 kg ha-1 ) of soybean was found with the application of vermicompost @ 2.5 t ha-1 , 60 kg P2O5 and seed treatment of Rhizobium + PSB, respectively.

A field experiment was conducted during 2015-16 and 2016-17 to compare the surface and sub-surface drip irrigation system on seed cotton in Vertisols of Malaprabha command in Northern Karnataka. Drip system with irrigation treatment as 1.0 Etc, 0.8 ETc and 0.6 ETc in surface as well as sub-surface system were considered along with farmers method as check was considered for the study. Sub-surface drip system yields maximum, (20.37 q.ha-1 ) seed cotton which is on par with surface drip system and farmers method. The water use efficiency was maximum, 4.17 Kg. (ha.mm)-1 with farmers method but also which is on par with surface and sub surface method of irrigation method. The gross and net income was maximum (Rs 94,051 ha-1 and Rs 49,056 ha-1 ) in subsurface drip system also yield was on par with surface and farmers method of irrigation. The B:C ratio was maximum (2.07) in case of surface system. The significantly superior water use efficiency was recorded with 0.6 ETc. Interaction effect between irrigation 0.6 ETc surface drip with and sub-surface system was also recorded significantly superior. The overall water saving was recorded about 12.45 percent, 20.21 percent and 42.34 percent with 1.0 ETc 0.8 ETc, and 0.6 ETc respectively when compared with farmers method.

The field experiment was conducted for three consecutive years during rabi seasons from 2009-12 at Indore (Madhya Pradesh) to find out the effect of zinc and boron levels on the productivity, quality and economic viability of wheat. Two wheat varieties viz., HI 1544 (Triticum aestivum L.) and HI 8498 (Triticum turgidum ssp. Durum) were tested under three levels each of zinc (0, 5.0 and 10 kg ha-1 ) and boron (0, 1.0 and 2.0 kg ha-1 ). Pooled over data of 3 years revealed that the yield performance of bread wheat variety HI 1544 (grain yield 5.69 t ha-1 ) was significantly higher over durum wheat variety HI 8498. In case of Zn and B application, grain yields recorded with 5.0 kg Zn ha-1 (5.63 t ha-1 ) and 1.0 kg B ha-1 (5.63 t ha-1 ) were significantly higher to the tune of 6.63 and 5.23 percent, respectively over control and thereafter differences were non-significant. While crude protein (12.9 %) and yellow pigment (4.45 ppm) contents observed with durum wheat variety HI 8498 were significantly higher over bread wheat variety HI 1544. However, SDS (sedimentation) value (37.9 ml) recorded with bread wheat variety HI 1544 was significantly higher over durum wheat variety HI 8498. None of the nutrients viz., Zn and B had significant effect on any of quality traits. Zinc (24.14 and 13.57 mg kg-1 ) and boron (7.40 and 11.83 mg kg-1 ) contents recorded in grain and straw of wheat variety HI 8498 were significantly higher over HI 1544. But, total uptakes of Zn and B were more in HI 1544 than HI 8498 due to higher wheat tonnage. Due to synergistic effect of zinc and boron to each other, their contents and uptakes were gradually increased with each increase in nutrients level. Energy relationships values were followed the trend of wheat yields. Whereas, analysis of marginal rate of return showed that application of Zn @ 5.0 kg/ha and B @ 1.0 kg ha-1 were found safe doses for farmers’ recommendations. On the basis of 3 years study, it may be inferred that bread wheat variety HI 1544 under application of Zn @ 5.0 kg ha-1 and B @ 1.0 kg ha-1 holds promise to provide higher wheat productivity in vertisols of Central India.

An experiment was conducted at Agronomy Farm, S. K. N. College of Agriculture, Jobner (Rajasthan) during Kharif, 2015 for screening of 11 genotypes of green gram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilezek] against white fly (Bemisia tabaci), jassid (Empoasca kerri). The initiation of jassid and whitefly population recorded in the first week of August (32 SMW) which reached its peak in first week of September, i.e. 36th SMW (12.90 jassid and 14.20 whitefly/ three leaves) when maximum temperature, minimum temperature and relative humidity was 36.1 and 21.70C and 90 per cent, respectively and gradually decline thereafter. Out of eleven genotypes of green gram screened for relative resistance against white fly (Bemisia tabaci), jassid (Empoasca kerri). Genotypes, RMG-344, RMG-1051 were categorized as highly resistance, RMG-1079, RMG-975, MUN-2, RMG-1010, MSG-118 and RMG-1076 as moderately resistance, followed by RMG-492, RMG-268 and RMG-62 as less resistance.

Present experiments were conducted to see the effect of different organic matter on some physical and chemical properties of soil collected from rice field. Ten treatments viz., T1- 100 % N through city compost, T2- 75 % N through city compost, T3- 100 % N through vermicompost, T4- 75 % N through vermicompost, T5- 100 % N through Industrial waste-1, T-6 75 % N through Industrial waste-1, T-7 100 % N through Industrial waste-2, T-8 75 % N through Industrial waste-2, T-9 100 % N through FYM and T-10 75 % N through FYM were used for study and a medium duration scented rice variety “Tarun Bhog” was taken as test crops. The results revealed that the significantly highest (7.48) pH of soil was found in treatment T4, highest EC (Electrical conductivity) value 0.23 dsm-1 recorded in treatment T2 and OC (Organic carbon) value 0.67 % was observed in T5. The maximum and bulk density found insignificant and it varied from 1.32-1.37Mg m3 . The status primary nutrient (N, P, K) in soil after harvest was recorded significantly highest (220, 11.93, 345.75 kg ha-1 respectively) in the treatment T5. Application of T5- 100 % N through Industrial waste-1 was found best among all the organic manure in rice cultivation.

The treatments comprised of seven different grafting dates and two different wrapping materials. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with factorial concept and replicated three times. The results revealed that amongst different grafting dates and wrapping materials grafting done on 01.04.2017 with graft tied with degradable tape observed significantly maximum increment in length of scion (4.00 %, 10.10 % and 16.83 %) at 30, 60 and 90 DAG (Table.2), maximum increment in length of root stock (1.30 %, 3.95 % and 5.84 %) was recorded at30, 60 and 90 DAG (Table.3), maximum increment in girth of root stock (18.48 %, 26.97 % and 43.18 %) was recorded at 30, 60 and 90 DAG (Table.3). While, grafting done on 15.03.2017 with graft tied with degradable tape recorded maximum increment in girth of scion (19.57 %, 45.97 % and 46.37 %) was recorded at 30, 60 and 90 DAG (Table.2) when, as compared to other treatments.

Growth parameters such as trunk girth, number of canes/vine and leaf area varied significantly on different rootstocks. The stock: scion ratio varied significantly in Thompson Seedless while in Manjari Medika and Manjari Kishmish, the differences were non-significant. Graft success showed non-significant differences in Thompson Seedless and Manjari Kishmish while significant difference in Manjari Medika grafted on different rootstocks. Physiological parameters such as transpiration rate and stomatal conductance showed significant effect on different rootstocks while assimilation rate showed significant effect in Manjari Kishmish.

The soil of experimental field was loamy sand in texture, low in organic carbon (0.30 %) and available nitrogen (142.5 kg/ha), medium in available phosphorus (43.41 kg/ha) and available potash (253.02 kg/ha) with soil pH of 7.7. Different twelve treatments comprising of application of nutrients through different organic sources viz., FYM, castor cake, NPK consortium, Rhizobium and PSB. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design and replicated three times. Groundnut variety TG 37 was used as test crop. The application of 1.0 t/ha castor cake + Rhizobium + PSB recorded significantly higher plant height at 30 DAS (7.56 cm), 60 DAS (21.47 cm) and at harvest (48.02 cm), number of branches per plant 60 DAS (9.00) and at harvest (10.40), number of effective pegs per plant at harvest (19.66), more numbers of pods per plant at harvest (13.00), pod yield per plant (8.90 g), higher pod yield (2861 kg/ha) and haulm yield (4876 kg/ha) over rest of the treatments. The maximum net realization (Rs. 1,14,348/ha) was obtained with treatment 1.0 t/ha castor cake + Rhizobium + PSB, while maximum benefit : cost ratio (3.57) was recorded with the treatment of 5.0 t/ha FYM +Rhizobium + PSB as compare to other treatments.

Poultry manure, neem cake, Azotobacter, VAM, PSB and pea crop residue along with the inorganic fertilizers was tested on seed quality attributes of tomato at different fruit pickings. The fruits harvested in the first picking resulted in greatest 1000 seed weight, germination percentage, seedling length and seedling vigour index having considerable differences over the late pickings. Among different treatments the application of VAM + 50 % P and full dose N and K through fertilizers proved best almost in all the fruit picking with respect with respect to all the above seed quality attributes closely followed by the application of PSB+75 % P and full dose of N and K through fertilizers.

The field experiment was conducted at Experimental Farm, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu during July – October 2015 to study the effect of mycorrhizal inoculation (VAM) and different levels of phosphorus on growth, yield attributes and yield of hybrid sunflower cv. Sunbred.The experiment was conducted by factorial randomized block design with two replications. The treatments of experiment consisted of 4 levels of P2O5 (0,25,50,75 and 100kg/ha) applied in the presence or absence of VAM inoculates. The results revealed that growth, yield attributes and yield was significantly influenced by various P levels in the presence and absence of VAM inoculations. The growth and yield of sunflower was highest under mycorrhizal inoculated plants than non micorhizal inoculation. Among the various phosphorus levels tried, P2O5 at 100 kg ha-1 recorded maximum values for growth and yield, while P2O5 at 25 kg ha-1 registered minimum values for growth and yield of sunflower. Among the treatment combinations tried, mycorrhizal inoculation with P2O5 @ 100 kg ha-1 recorded maximum values for growth and yield attributes and yield of sunflower (2153 kg ha-1 ) but it was on par with M2 P3 (mycorrhizal inoculation with P2O5 @ 75 kg ha-1 ). The lowest values of growth and yield attributes and yield were recorded by nonmycorrhizal inoculation with P2O5 @ 25 kg ha-1.

Mustard is an important crop with the view of food and nutritional value and income & employment generation ability, possibility to raise the cropping intensity due to its nature of best fit with food grain production system. Keeping in view the importance of the mustard a study on cultivation of mustard was conducted in Lakhimpur block of Lakhimpur (Kheri) District. A sample of 100 farmers from, marginal, small and medium holding size were drawn through the proportionate random sampling technique, from five selected villages of Lakhimpur block, data were collected through personal interview method with the help of pre-structured schedule and secondary data were collected from block head quarter and district offices. More than 50 % of the sample farmers were of marginal holding, very less number of medium size farmer were found. Overall average holding size was found to 0.97 hectare. Paddy, wheat and sugarcane were the major crops of Kharif, Rabi and zaid season respectively. Mustard under study was also allotted considerable acreage in cropping pattern; cropping intensity was inversely related with farm size. Similarly per farm and per hectare investment on building and livestock were also inversely related with farm size.

The study was conducted to know the adoption of improved sericulture production technologies by farmers in Bidar district of north Karnataka during the year 2016-2017. The findings revealed that, majority of the respondents (52.00 %) belonged to medium adoption category with respect to sericulture production technologies. Whereas 32 percent of respondents were belonged to low adoption category and only 16 percent of respondents were belonged to high adoption category. With respect to mulberry cultivation technologies more than half of the (58.00 %) of the respondents had fully adopted the technologies like high yielding varieties and methods of late age rearing & spacing followed by intercropping (48.00 %), irrigation management (37.00 %) and preparation of nursery bed and management (22.00 %). The variables namely education, land holding, annual income, extension participation, extension contact, scientific orientation and risk orientation were found important in influencing the adoption of mulberry sericulture production technologies by farmers.

Field trial was conducted to study the dissipation pattern of profenophos in/on tomato by following two foliar applications at recommended (500 g a.i/ha) and double the recommended dose (1000 g a.i/ha). The tomato crop was sprayed twice at 10 days interval at fruit initiation stage. Initial residues of profenophos in tomato fruits were recorded as 0.45 and 95 mg kg-1 on tomato fruits with the half-life of 2.56 and 2.56 days at recommended and double recommended dose, respectively. The residues of profenophos reached below quantification limit (BQL) after 7 and 10 days in both the doses. Considering this, Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI) of seven days can be suggested for profenophos for residue free tomato.

The study was conducted to know the constraints faced and suggestions by farmers to overcome the constraints in adoption of improved sericulture production technologies in Bidar district of north Karnataka during the year 2016-2017. The findings revealed that, the major problem faced by the farmers are lack of knowledge regarding control of pests and diseases like uzifly, ants, pebrine, white muscardine and yellow Muscardine (100 %), lack of marketing facility and fluctuation in price of cocoon, (100 %), lack of information about crossbred races of silkworm (92.00 %), lack of information about concentration of the disinfectant (88.00 %), lack of knowledge regarding controlling of pest and diseases (82.00 %) and inadequate training facilities (62.00 %). With respect to suggestions to overcome the problems, training programmes should be given on Chawki rearing and late age rearing and management of pest and diseases of mulberry and silkworms are the most important suggestion made by 96.00 and 95.00 per cent of the respondents respectively followed by provide training on mulberry orchard management (85.00 %), study tours to visit progressive sericulture farmers’ (80.00 %), The Government should give financial support (78.00 %), the Subsidies on drip irrigation system may be increased (75.00 %).

The present investigation was carried out at Crop Research Center (Chirori), Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology, Meerut, during rabi season 2016-17. The experimental material comprised of forty diverse linseed accessions were obtained from Project coordinating unit (Linseed), CSAUA&T, Kanpur. The experiment was conducted in Randomized Complete Block Design (RBD) in three replications, to estimate the relative high magnitude of phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation was observed for number of secondary branches per plant, seed yield per plant, number of primary branches per plant and biological yield per plant. Environmental influence was very meager on expression of these characters of the genetic material under study as it was evident by narrow gap between genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation. High estimates of genetic advance were observed for only one trait i.e. number of capsules per plant and moderately observed for plant height and harvest index. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percent of mean was observed for the traits viz., number of secondary branches per plant, number of primary branches per plant, biological yield per plant and seed yield per plant, indicating that heritability may be due to additive gene action and simple selection based on these characters may be effective. High estimates of genetic advance as percentage of means were recorded for number of secondary branches per plant, seed yield per plant, number of primary branches per plant and biological yield per plant.

Forty nine terminal drought tolerant groundnut genotypes of groundnut were evaluated during Kharif 2016 for genetic parameter viz., variability, heritability and genetic advance. The estimates of PCV and GCV were high for immature pods per plant, dry pod yield (kg/ha), haulm yield, root volume and root dry weight under both normal and control condition. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance expressed as percentage of mean was observed for plant height, primary branches per plant, matured pods per plant, haulm yield, dry pod yield (kg/ha), hundred kernels weight, root length, average root diameter, specific leaf area, SPAD chlorophyll meter reading and harvest index indicating that these traits were mainly governed by additive gene action and responsive for further improvement of these traits.

Forty nine terminal drought tolerant groundnut genotypes were assessed for associations among various characters and also path analysis for pod yield per plant. The magnitudes of genotypic correlation coefficients were generally higher compared to the corresponding phenotypic correlation coefficients for most of the traits. The highly significant positive association recorded for kernel yield, haulm yield, root diameter and root dry weight with pod yield per plant at both phenotypic and genotypic levels under both control and terminal drought conditions. The path analysis study indicated that high positive direct effect by kernel yield per plant on pod yield. The weightage should be given to primary branches per plant, mature pods per plant, kernel yield, root diameter and root dry weight characters while fixing selection criteria for improvement of drought tolerant groundnut genotypes.

The present study has examined the growth rates of area of major crops, Growth and instability in selected tahsils of Amaravati district. In order to work out Growth and instability, compound growth rates of area of major crops were estimated from 2003-04 to 2015-16. Coefficient of variation was used for analytical tools. The compound growth rates of area of major crops i.e. Soybean were significantly positive in selected tahsils. In case of Tur compound growth rates of area were significantly positive in Dharni, Bhatkuli and Nandgaon. The area of Cotton in Dharni and Bhatkuli tahsil was significantly positive. In Dharni tahsil, the most stable crop was Soybean followed by Cotton and Tur. In Chikhaldara tahsil, most stable crop was Kharif jowar followed by soybean. In Bhatkuli tahsil, most stable crop is Soybean followed by other crop and Tur. In Nandgaon tahsil, Soybean was most stable crop followed by Cotton and Kharif jowar and in Tiwasa tahsil Soybean was most stable crop followed by Cotton and Black gram. The area of Cotton shows increasing trend of land concentration ratios from year 2003-04 to 2015-16.

The present study was carried out in Mahanadi reservoir canal irrigation system of Chhattisgarh state during the years 2017-18 and 2018-19. Most of the head, mid and tail reach respondents were adopting Rice- Fallow- Fallow cropping pattern. Swarna was the highest cultivating variety in head, mid and tail reach. Average productivity of rice was 45.05 q/ha, 43.42 q/ha and 41.14 q/ha, for head, mid and tail reach respectively. A significant difference (Anova) was also found in productivity of rice between the head, mid and tail reach.

The study was conducted to evaluate the bullock drawn solar powered high clearance sprayer for cotton (Bt cotton hybrid MRC 7351) and red gram (Maruthi ICP 8863) at the farmer’s field, Raichur. The insecticide used was dinotefuran (Osheen) solution with a recommended dose of 200 g 1000 l-1 . The chemical used for spraying the red gram crop was chlorantriniprole with a recommended dose of 200 g 1000 l-1 . The insects were reduced from pre counting as the number of days increased after the spraying. The populations of aphids were 12, after 10 days reduced to 3.7 numbers. The percentage of pod damage significantly reduced in red gram crop. The results of present study conclude that bullock drawn solar powered high clearance sprayer is found to be superior when compared to conventional gun spraying.

A field experiment was conducted at field no. 6 Student’s Instructural Farm at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur during the Kharif season 2017 to find out integrated nutrient management effect on maize with ten treatments i.e. T1 (125 % RDN), T2 (100 % RDN), T3 (100 % RDN + 25 % N FYM), T4 (100 % RDN + 25 % N FYM + S30), T5 (100 % RDN + 25 % N FYM + S30 + Zn5), T6 (75 % RDN), T7 (75 % RDN + 25 % N FYM), T8 (75 % RDN + 25 % N FYM + S30), T9 (75 % RDN + FYM + S30 + Zn5), T10 (Control) in RBD with 3 replications. Maize variety Azad Uttam was taken for study. The result showed highest protein content (8.99 %) in treatment T5 and lowest protein content (7.62 %) in treatment T1. Economically the Net returns range is 20687 to 43306 Rs/ha and benefit cost ratio range 1.84 to 2.16 respectively. The treatment combination T5 (100 % RDN + 25 % N FYM + S30 + Zn5) gave the best result in terms of crop quality and economics of crop.

The influence of foliar application of secondary and micronutrients on potato was investigated to determine its growth and yield. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with 16 treatments replicated thrice. All the growth and yield parameters were improved significantly. The highest numerical value of plant height 23.55, 28.43 and 33.89cm at 45, 60, and 75 DAP respectively. Total number of tubers (4.84) per plant, Total tuber yield per plant (233.53 g), yield per plot (14.07 kg), yield per hectare (22.52 t/ha) recorded with the sole application treatments of foliar application of Magnesium (Mg). The highest numerical value of plant height 25.87, 31.33 and 36.71 cm, at 45, 60, 75 DAP, Total number of tubers (8.18) per plant, Total tuber yield per plant (346.80 g), total tuber yield plot (23.04 kg), total tuber yield hectare (36.87 t/ha) was recorded with the foliar application of Magnesium (Mg), sulphur (S), zinc (Zn) and boron (B).

Thirty five genotypes including three check cultivars were grown in a RCBD with three replications during Kharif, 2013 at Vegetable Experimental Research Farm, Nauni, Solan, HP to study the correlation and path analysis of yield and other different economic characters in bell pepper. From the correlation study among different characters a highly significant and positive phenotypic and genotypic correlation of yield was found with number of fruits per plant, fruit length, fruit breadth, average fruit weight, pericarp thickness and harvest duration. Therefore, main emphasis should be given on these characters, while making the selection in bell pepper genotypes. Maximum positive direct effect towards yield was contributed by number of fruits per plant, followed by average fruit weight and pericarp thickness. The studies on path coefficient analysis suggested that selection for average fruit weight, number of fruits per plant and pericarp thickness would be effective for improving yield in bell pepper.

It has highest protein content among leguminous crops belonging to the family Leguminaceae. Among several diseases, Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum truncatum (Schw) Andrus and Moore is one of the most destructive disease of soybean crop, causing great losses and the disease has attained serious proportion in soybean growing areas of Khandesh. Therefore, present investigations were carried out on the aspects viz. isolation of the pathogen, pathogenicity, identification of the pathogens, in vitro evaluation of the fungicides, botanicals and bioagents against the pathogen and in vivo (pot culture) evaluation of the fungicides. The present research work was conducted at Plant Pathology Section, College of Agriculture, Dhule during 2012-2013. Result reveal that treatments carbendazim @ 0.1 % recorded maximum disease control (76.78 %) and was found significantly superior over rest of the fungicidal treatments. The next best treatments were Tebuconazole @ 0.1 % (63.35 %), followed by the Propiconazole @0.1 % (60.05 %) and Hexaconazole @ 0.1 % (49.71 %) of disease control. While, Difenconazole @ 0.1 % showed minimum (40.61 %) disease control.

In order to investigate the effect of different herbicidal treatments on finger millet crop, a field experiment was carried out in randomized block design with three replication during 2015 at IGKV, Rajmohini Devi College of Agricultural and Research Station, Ambikapur (C.G). Weeds, viz. Panicum maxima, Elusine indica, Cyperus spp., Cynodon dactylon, Celosia argentea, Alternanthera sessilis, Alternanthera triandra and Ageratum conyzoides were the dominant weeds of the experimental field. Results revealed that number of tillers, LAI, dry matter accumulation, crop growth rate per plant, weed control efficiency, herbicide use efficiency and grain yield were significantly higher under hoeing twice by wheel hoe between rows and intra-row manual weeding at 20 and 40 and hand weeding twice at 20 and 40 DAS.

An investigation for the evaluation of tomato based intercropping system was conducted during Kharif (July-December), 2017 under naturally ventilated polyhouse at Centre of Excellence on Protected Cultivation and Precision Farming, I.G.K.V., Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Elephant foot yam, colocasia, turmeric and ginger were selected as intercrops. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with three replications. For assessment of the overall productivity potential and efficiency of all the intercropping systems studied in this experiment, tomato equivalent yield and LER were determined. Among different systems studied, highest tomato equivalent yield was obtained in tomato + elephant foot yam intercropping system closely followed by tomato + ginger intercropping system. Tomato + turmeric intercropping system registered the highest LER value followed by tomato + ginger intercropping system. Economic analysis of different intercropping systems revealed that tomato + elephant foot yam intercropping system had the highest net returns per acre followed by tomato + ginger. Tomato + elephant foot yam and tomato + ginger intercropping system were found most remunerative on the basis of benefit: cost ratio. Elephant foot yam and ginger were found to be the best intercrops and may be recommended for achieving the much desired yield and monetary return for vegetable based intercropping system in solid soilless media under protected condition for food and nutrition security.

The present study was conducted to know the genetic diversity among newly developed early maturing yellow inbred lines of maize during Kharif 2017 at Experimental Farm, SAREC, Kangra. In this experiment, forty one inbred lines and two checks were evaluated and observations were recorded for twelve quantitative traits. Analysis of variance revealed significant difference among all inbred lines. Inbred lines were grouped into nine clusters, indicating the presence of genetic diversity. The genotypes were grouped into nine clusters. Cluster III comprised the maximum genotypes (16) which indicated the genetic similarity among them. The highest inter-cluster distance (29.33) was observed between clusters VIII and IV followed by clusters VII and IV (28.01), clusters IV and IV (24.4), clusters IX and IV (23.86), clusters VIII and II (21.66), clusters VII and II (21.48) and clusters IV and III (20.71), suggesting wider diversity between them and the genotypes in these cluster could be used as parents for maize hybrid development. The maximum intra-cluster distance was observed in cluster III (10.26) and the cluster IV was had the least intra cluster distance (6.96). The mean values of cluster II had relatively less days to anthesis and silking, bold grain size, more number of kernels rows/ear and the maximum yielding ability. Cluster IV also showed more kernel weight and reasonable yielding capacity. Plant height and 1000- kernel weight had the greatest contribution to genetic divergence, whereas, other characters like grain yield per plant, ear height, ear length, tassel length, days to silking, days to anthesis, leaf width, number of rows/ear and ear girth contributed very little for divergence.

An investigation was carried-out at fruit research station, Department of Horticulture, JNKVV, Jabalpur during the season of 2014-15 on 5 years old orchard of mango, to evaluate the positive effect of foliar sprays of PGR’ and nutrients on fruiting, yield and quality characteristics in Amrapali mango. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block design in three replications and treatments replicated thrice by using single tree as a units. Each treatment was carried out one tree for each replication. Spraying of combination of nutrients viz., KNO3 (2 %), urea (2 %), ZnSO4 (0.8 %) and FeSO4 (0.4 %) and growth regulators viz., NAA (50 & 25 ppm) and GA3 (30 & 20 ppm) was compared with control (no spray). The experimental results indicate that the foliar spray of GA3 30 ppm + KNO3 2 % showed better performance in Higher number of fruits at initial stage (63.81), more fruit retention percentage at harvest stage (1.94 %), fruit yield (14.70 kg/ tree), fruit weight (182.29 g), fruit length(9.91 cm), fruit width (6.90 cm), fruit volume (172.01 ml) and peel weight (31.36 g). Under the treatment T6 (NAA 50 ppm + KNO3 2 %) was recorded significantly maximum pulp weight (105.73 g) which were at par with T2. However, it was noted minimum in control (T17) and reverse trend was noted in case of stone weight. Significantly minimum stone weight (21.41g) was recorded in treatment T6 (NAA 50 ppm + KNO3 2 %). Biochemical parameter like TSS, Acidity, Ascobic acid, Reducing sugar, Total sugar and Non-reducing sugar were observed. However the chemical composition of fruit viz., maximum TSS (22.05 0Brix), TSS: acid ratio (184.22), Ascorbic acid content (54.33 mg/100g), reducing sugars (6.90 %), total sugars (18.09 %) and minimum acidity content (0.12 %) were recorded with the application of T14 (GA3 30 ppm + KNO3 2 %) which was at par with T10(GA3 20 ppm+ KNO3 2 %) during the year of experimentation.

Field experiments were conducted at Department of Cotton, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore during Winter irrigated seasons of 2017 and 2018 to study the effect of plant growth retardants on physiological growth parameters of machine sown cotton under high density planting system with varying crop geometries. The experiments were laid out in split plot design and replicated thrice. Treatments comprised of three crop geometries viz.,75 cm x 10 cm (1,33,333 plants ha-1 ) (M1), 75 cm x 20 cm (66,666 plants ha-1 ) (M2) and 75 cm x 30 cm (44,444 plants ha-1) (M3) and seven sub plots with foliar application of different growth retardants along with one control viz., Cycocel 400 ppm (S1), Cycocel 500 ppm (S2), Mepiquat Chloride 100 ppm (S3), Mepiquat Chloride 200 ppm (S4), Maleic Hydrazide 400 ppm (S5), Maleic Hydrazide 500 ppm (S6) and Control (No Spray) (S7). The results of the present study revealed that machine sown cotton with closer spacing of 75 cm x 10 cm in conjunction with foliar application of 200 ppm mepiquat chloride (M1S4) significantly influenced the physiological growth parameters like leaf area index, leaf area duration, crop growth rate, chlorophyll index and light interception and increased the seed cotton yield.

The experiment was carried out under laboratory conditions in which four seed protectants i.e. neem oil 0.03 % EC @ 6.00 ppm, deltamethrin 2.8 % EC @ 1.40 ppm, U.V. radiation @ 254 nm for 5 minutes and diflubenzuron @ 1.00 ppm were tested against pulse beetle, Callosobruchus chinensis L. on fresh chickpea seeds under laboratory conditions as a preventive measure. The standard quantity of each treatment was mixed with 500 grams of disinfected (fresh) chickpea seeds and kept in glass jars covered with muslin cloth and a sample of 25 gram each from those bulk treated fresh chickpea seeds were drawn at 24 h, 48 h, 72 h, 96 h and 120 h after exposure to various treatments and three pairs of newly emerged male and female adults were released. The adults of C. chinensis that emerged from different treatments were counted at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days interval of egg laying and kept at room temperature. The minimum adult emergence was observed when the chickpea seeds treated with deltamethrin followed by diflubenzuron and neem oil whereas maximum pulse beetle count was recorded on U.V. irradiated seeds in the samples those were drawn at various intervals of 24 h, 48 h, 72 h, 96 h and 120 hours after 30 days of storage. A similar trend was found even after 60 days, 90 days & 120 days of storage. All the treatments differed significantly among themselves and also differed significantly with control treatment. The losses were increased with increase in storage period.

The field experiment were conducted to Identification and characterization of varieties based on simple distinct seed and seedling morphological characters of different chickpea varieties during rabi season of 2008 at main agricultural Research station, and laboratory of department of Seed Science and Technology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. The study included five chickpea varieties namely A-1, Bheema and BGD-103 (Desi) ICCV-2 and KAK-2 (Kabuli) The five chickpea varieties were categorized based on seed shape, colour and texture. A-1, BGD-103 and Bheema found angular in shaped with brown rough seed coat. While, ICCV-2 and KAK-2 were Owl’s shaped, creamy white smooth surface. Hundred seed weight differed among varieties; BGD-103, Bheema and KAK-2 were heavy while, ICCV-2 and A-1 were medium in seed weight. The hypocotyl colour differed among varieties as pale green with pigment (BGD-103, Bheema and A-1) as creamy without pigmentation (ICCV-2 and KAK-2). Days to flower initiation, 50 per cent flowering, days to pod initiation and pod maturity were early in ICCV-2 and KAK-2 and late in A-1, BGD-103 and Bheema varieties. Pigmentation and pod colour at maturity differed among varieties; ICCV-2 and KAK-2 were without pigmentation and yellowish brown pod colour. Whereas, rest of varieties were having pigmentation on their pods and were brown in pod colour. The number of pods and seed yield per plant were maximum in BGD-103 (52.68 and 13.88 g) respectively followed by Bheema and A-1 and minimum in ICCV-2 (36.46 and 11.74 g, respectively).

A field experiment was conducted to study the “Effect of organic and inorganic source of nutrients on growth and yield of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)” at the Research Farm of Department of Soil Science, SHUATS, Allahabad. The experimental field was applied with different levels of NPK (NPK-0 %, NPK50 % and NPK-100 %) and FYM (FYM 0 tha-1 , FYM 5 tha-1 and FYM 10 tha-1 ). The experimental results revealed that both NPK and FYM nutrients alone or in combination had significant effect on growth parameters (plant height, number of tillers, number of spikes, spikes length) and yield parameters (grain yield and biological yield) of barley. The best treatment for maximum growth parameters (plant height, number of tillers, number of spikes, spikes length) and yield parameters (grain yield and biological yield) was noted in treatments applied with combination of both high concentration of NPK and FYM. From the results it was indicated that NPK should be used with FYM in order to have good biomass and maximum yield of barley.

The experiment was conducted at Dr. PDKV, Akola during Mrig season 2015-16 and 2016-17. Fourteenyear-old healthy plants of uniform growth of Nagpur mandarin were selected from the field of All India Coordinated Research Project (Fruits). The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design with ten treatments which were replicated three times. The experiment consisted of different treatments of cow dung slurry, biogas slurry, fermented cow dung slurry, bio-fertilizers and NPK. The highest fruit yield (36.99 tons ha-1 ) was recorded in treatment of fermented cow dung slurry @ 60 L plant-1 + 75 per cent RDF i.e. 900:300:300 g NPK plant-1 (T8) followed by T7 (34.22 tons ha-1 ). The minimum fruit yield was obtained from treatment of fresh cow dung slurry @ 120 L plant-1 + Azotobacter + PSB (22.66 tons ha-1). Economic analysis also revealed that the gross returns (Rs. 1108550/ha) and net returns (Rs. 849423/ha) were higher in T8. Benefit-cost ratio (BCR) was also higher in T8 (3.28).

A plant biostimulant is any substance applied to plants with the aim to enhance nutritional efficiency, abiotic stress tolerance and crop quality traits, regardless of its nutrients content. A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of foliar application of PEPTO a plant based bio stimulant which comprises of plant extracts with low molecular weight peptides and natural polysaccharides on the growth and yield of black gram. Among the treatments, foliar application of PEPTO exhibited significant influence on the growth of black gram viz., plant height, LAI and DMP. The treatment recommended package of practice (RPP) with foliar spray of PEPTO @ 5.0 l ha-1 on 20-25 and 40 - 45 DAS significantly registered the highest growth attributes of black gram. The treatment viz., RPP with foliar spray of PEPTO @ 2.5 l ha-1 on 20-25 and 40 - 45 DAS stood next in order of ranking. The control - RPP with 2 % urea spray at 50% flowering (40-45 DAS) recorded the least values in all these growth attributes of black gram.

An investigation was conducted at Horticultural College and Research Institute, Venkataramannagudem, Dr. YSR Horticultural University with an objective of evaluating the effect of sowing date, variety and their interaction on growth, yield and quality of seed fenugreek in order to assess its fitment into sequence cropping under delayed sowing conditions. A total of five varieties viz., Hissar Sonali, Rmt-1, Co-1, Rajendra kranti and Co-2 were evaluated on five sowing dates at 15-day interval starting from 15th October to 15th December in split plot design with five main plots as sowing dates and five sub-plots as varieties. There were significant differences in the vegetative and yield parameters. The maximum values in respect of Harvest index and its related parameters recorded by Co-1 and Co-2 by sowing on 15th october it is also observed that Co-1 and Co-2 varieties were at par in some of these characters and on the other hand at lower level Rmt-1 and Rajendra kanthi were on par with one another. Regarding the sowing dates 15th October was found to be on par with 1st November and similarly 1st December and 15th December were also on par though recorded minimum values in respect of Harvest index including seed yield

Keeping in view of the consumer’s awareness towards the quality and safety of food products, shelf life studies play an important role. Storage studies are carried out to analyze the quality characteristics and product behavior during storage. A study was conducted in the Division of Food Science and Technology, SKUAST- K, Shalimar to investigate the effect of storage on quality characteristics of corn based rice bran incorporated extruded snacks extruded at pre optimized conditions (10 % rice bran incorporation, moisture content of 14 %, barrel temperature of 135 0C and screw speed of 300 rpm. These snacks were then stored in high density polyethylene (HDPE) for four months at ambient temperature and evaluated for moisture content, water activity, free fatty acids, breaking strength, total plate count and overall acceptability at an interval of 30 days for a period of four months.
